LEGISLATIVE UPDATE The 2021 Session is a Wrap Highlights from the Legislative Session. | BY SANDRA MORTHAM, FIADA LOBBYIST General Judicial Government After passing the largest budget in $6.3B $667M history of $101.5 billions, the legislature adjourned sine die at 2:40pm on Friday, April 30th. The budget is $9.2 billion higher than the current year budget primarily because of the COVID 19 recovery funds from the federal government. The good news is that they kept a record amount in the state reserve funds. Natural Resources & Transportation $14.7B Education The Legislature is planning a Special Session $30.1B beginning May 17th to work on the Seminole Criminal Justice Compact and the gaming industry as a whole. $5.2B At this writing, we don’t have the results of that session. Of the 3,140 bills filed this year, 275 bills passed both the House and Senate, one of the lowest Health & Human Services $44.6B number of total bills to pass during a Session. This session was vastly different from any previous years because of protocols related to COVID-19. Access to legislative meetings, as well as individual House and Senate members, was difficult in most instances and downright impossible in others. Breakdown of the legislature's approved budget, which will be the largest in Florida's history. The Legislature passed the requirement for out of state sellers to collect and remit taxes session. It will again be an unusual year because of on Florida sales. This may help some dealers redistricting which takes place every ten years.
