With a wide range of workshops, tour options and other add-ons, your visit can be as individual as your students are! With exciting workshops covering a variety of topics from pirates, mermaids, the Titanic, to Glasgow in World War One, all levels can experience a truly unique and memorable learning experience. New for Autumn 2021, our loan chests are bursting with intriguing objects and stimulating resources to bring the Glenlee experience straight into your classroom! LOAN CHESTS LAUNCHED AT THE TALL SHIP GLENLEE! Bursting with exciting and thought-provoking objects to handle and explore, fun games, engaging activities, and classroom discussion topics, our chests are enhanced with a range of digital resources including living history videos, craft activities, and other links. Your students will get a real taste of what life was really like aboard a turn-of-the-century ship, learn why ships built on the Clyde were acknowledged as the best in the world, and respond creatively to a wide range of stimuli. These chests can either act as a preliminary introduction to the ship and its history before a class visit, or simply as a stand-alone resource. WORKSHOPS N1-P1/EARLY YEARS N1-P1/Early Years £55 Jock the Cat and Pirate Mice 33 pupils max. In this workshop, children will learn of the adventures of our ship's cat, Jock, as he saves Glenlee from some troublesome pirate mice! Activities include dressing up, role-play and pirate songs. Following the workshop, children can become trainee detectives as they take part in a teacher-led mouse hunt around the ship! N1-P1/Early Years £65 Mermaids and Sea Creatures 33 pupils max. In this workshop, children will meet a costumed sailor and hear about their adventures on the high seas, including encounters with creatures from the deep! Activities include storytelling, role-play, object-handling, songs and crafts. Following the workshop, children will be able to explore the ship in a teacher-led hunt for hidden mice! N1-P3/Early Years £65 The Lunch of the Lighthouse Keeper 33 pupils max. In this workshop, children will meet Mrs Grinling and Hamish the cat. Mrs Grinling will read The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch and the pupils will hear about the life and role of a lighthouse keeper. Activities include storytelling, role-play, object-handling and crafts. WORKSHOPS P2-P3 P2-P3/Level 1 £65 Sink or Swim 33 pupils max. In this workshop, students will begin with an investigation into the buoyancy of different materials as they sort objects into floating and sinking groups. They will then have the opportunity to apply their acquired knowledge to constructing small rafts for the ship's cat, Jock. Following the workshop, students will be able to explore the ship in a teacher-led hunt for hidden mice! P2-P3/Level 1 £90 Pirates Ahoy! 33 pupils max. Ahoy mateys! Join us for a fun and lively session with our costumed pirates. Students will get the chance to dress up, gain insight into the life of pirates and even learn a pirate song! Following this, the pirates will lead you on a swashbuckling hunt for Captain Scallywag's treasure! TITANIC WORKSHOPS P4-P7 P4-P6 £75 Titanic: Captain's Table 33 pupils max. In this workshop, students train to become servants on-board the 'unsinkable' Titanic. A costumed servant will put pupils through their paces as they learn appropriate table manners and Edwardian etiquette. In groups, students will have the opportunity to design fantasy First Class menus before attempting to set the Captain's Table for an imaginary dinner! P4-P7 £65 Titanic: Shipwrecked 33 pupils max. In this workshop, students will become mini-marine archaeologists as they excavate artefacts from the Titanic in 'seabed' sand trays. Using primary and secondary sources, they will work in teams to discover the stories of passengers and crew lost at sea. P4-P7 FREE* Titanic: Morse code 33 pupils max. In this workshop, students will have the rare opportunity to hear from ex-Radio Officers who have sailed around the world and communicated using Morse code. Not only does this workshop include expert Morse demonstrations, but students will also have the chance to have a go themselves! *FREE when booked with another Titanic workshop. WORKSHOPS P6-P7 P5-P7 £65 Shipyards at War: Glasgow's World War Past 33 pupils max. Join us for our newest and most ambitious workshop to date! Students will have the opportunity to explore Glasgow's influence during World War One through a combination of immersive performance, storytelling, shadow puppetry, film and object-handling in an unforgettable historical school trip! GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT WORKSHOPS All booked workshops include time and space for pupils to have a packed lunch. We offer the choice of a standard visit or you and your group can take part in a self-led scavenger hunt! UPGRADES TO YOUR VISIT Gift Shop and Souvenir Packs School groups are very welcome to visit our on-board gift shop! Please note that only 15 students can visit the shop at any one time and must be supervised at all times. For more convenience, you can pre- order a souvenir pack for £4 each that can be collected on the day of your visit! Café and Lunches We offer lunches at £3.50 per student. These include a sandwich, a pack of crisp, a yoghurt and a drink. Please note that lunches must be pre-ordered and any specific dietary requirements should be discussed at the time of booking.
