THE PRIMARY PLANET RESOURCE PACK Edit the Editor (1) Read through the article from this month’s magazine and see if you can spot the 10 spelling mistakes. Get Out of Jail Early (Page 6) We all know that reading is important. But, in the country of Bolivia, prisners have discovered that reading can get them released from jail early! ‘Books Behind Bars’ is a programme based on a similer set-up in Brazil. Both these countries experience severe overcrouding in their prisons. Bolivia lacks the resources to offer edukation or other help to people in many of the jails, and the system is so slow in some places that people might waite years before going to triall. In 47 of Bolivia’s prisons, 865 inmates are now reading books and taking tests to check for understanding. Other than a bit of entertanement, what is to be gained by these inmates? Depending on how much they read, they can take hours, days, or even weeks off their sentinces. This may not sound like a lot but, for a person sitting in jail, every minite counts. When these prisoners are finally released, they have learned to read and write at a higher level. This might help them when they look for jobs after bean released. Reading is also a way for them to ‘escape’ for a few minutes or even hours, all while they are still behind bars. Misspelt word Correct Spelling

Marilyn Still Wows (Page 6) An Andy Warhol painting of actriss Marilyn Monroe was recently sold at auction. That painting is now the 20th century’s most costly art peace, selling for $195 million (€186 million)! Warhol was an American artist, photografer and filmmaker. He is famous for his 1960s works in the Pop Art style, such as the Coke and Campbell soup can paintings. Warhol made five, in different colours. Four are called 'Shot' because another artist shot through a stack of them as a stunt. Warhol repared them. This crazily expensive artwork, called Shot Sage Blue Marilyn, was created in 1964. The bright painting is based on a photograph of the famous actress. Although the style is VERY differint, Marilyn’s mysterious smile is often compaired to da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. This sum is the most anyone has pade, to date, for an American painting. The winning bid was from Larry Gagosian, a US art dealer and gallary owner. Christie’s auction house says the money from this sale will go to a foundashion in Switzerland that helps children throughout the world by suporting education and healthcare programmes.
