The MARKINGS To the Family of St. Mark’s, June 2021 Volume 51, Issue 6 Summer is fast approaching, the school year is almost done, and the burden of Covid-19 is beginning to feel lighter and lighter. Out of all the things I was planning on for my first two years at St. Mark’s...a pandemic and lock-down was not on my list!!! I am writing this letter for us to pause and reflect on what we have been through this last year and half, to consider where we are now, and where we might be going forward. This month’s issue of the I think all of us can agree that hindsight will be a valuable thing going for- MARKINGS is sponsored ward concerning wisdom gained from navigating these uncharted waters. by Judy Young for all of Did we underreact or did we overreact? I guarantee whoever is reading this God’s blessings. just spouted out their answer to my question , because we all have an opin- ion based off of whatever sources we draw from. Here is what I am most thankful for as your pastor. We treated each other as Christians should, with respect, care, and concern for each other before our own opinions and de- sires. This simple concept from Jesus of “loving our neighbors as ourselves” is truly what allowed us to weather this storm of Covid-19. The leadership of St. Mark’s did our best to walk the line during Covid-19 of truly leaving it in the hands of the people. It was interesting to see how the majority adjusted, and continues to adjust, over time concerning masks, social distancing, and other societal practices. This trend of walking the line Inside this issue: continues as myself, and many others, are starting to feel more comfortable with any perceived threat of Covid-19 and simply just being around others Haiti VBS 2 again. I am grateful to be able to say that our church has not had any sort of outbreak, and that no one, that we are aware of, has died in our congregation Choir 2 as a result of Covid-19. By the grace of God He has mercifully allowed us to Information walk humbly through this difficult time, but now what do we do? P.E.W. Sisters 2 I think everyone would agree with me in that we have missed the simple relational freedom we had before Covid-19. Out of all the things that Birthdays & 3 changed throughout Covid-19 I am most excited about being fully relational Anniversaries again as a people interacting and sharing time and meals together. Some of us may be ready for that right now, but not all of us are there yet. The plan is Baseball / 4 to continue on as we are throughout the summer months, and then to be ful- Softball Info ly operational and back to normal in the Fall. A big topic I plan on focusing on this Fall is habits. Many of our habits Women’s Bible 5 had to change throughout Covid-19. Who would have ever thought that we Study would be halfway across the grocery store parking lot and have to turn Graduation 5 around because we forgot our mask in the car? Of course, nothing was mut- Recognition tered under our breath when that happened right? The point is that a lot of our habits changed through dealing with Covid-19, and for some of us, it was Small Groups & 6 church related habits. Action Teams Many Christian habits should happen outside of church: conversing with June Sermon 7 God throughout each day in prayer, reading your Bible intentionally, and Series obeying God’s commands for our lives, but there is one important factor that Fellowship 7 unites all of our individual efforts together...worship. A Brewer Baseball Game Day Trip is being tentatively planned for August 26th against the Cincinnati Reds. Game time is at 1:10 p.m. Costs for tickets would be around $30.00 plus our bus fare around $50.00. The Brewer organization is not sure at this time how many people will be allowed in the stadium. If you are interested in going to this game, a sign up sheet is in the narthex. Putting your name on the sign-up sheet doesn’t commit to going. I just need to know how many people may be interest- ed. There is no need to purchase the game package, tickets and bus, at this time. I just need to see if enough people are interested at this time. If you have any questions, please contact Lee Belmas.

We decided to stay with a weekly study on Tuesday mornings beginning with June 8th and meet from 9:30 - 10:30 am. Watch the bulletin for the topic as many options were discussed, most likely the power and promise of various hymns. Looking forward to this new study opportunity. Hope you can join us! Questions? Call Sandy Flanagan at 715-842-4204.
Page 6 The MARKINGS Small Groups and Action Teams With the availability of the vaccines the future seems a little brighter concerning Covid. We are excited about the possibility of gathering together as a church family, both during services and out- side of church. We have talked about Small Groups and Action Teams in the past and want to explain a little more about what they would really mean for you. Some Small Groups (groups that meet continuously) that we already have established are Men-In- Action, Comfort Quilters, P.E.W. Sisters, and OGT. Pastor Eric will be starting Band of Brothers in fall. We feel that joining a small group helps people feel more connected to the church and builds rela- tionships within. If you would like to join one of these groups, reach out to the office. We will put you in contact with the lead for more information. It is our hope this summer to create more small groups to accommodate all the age ranges and demographics in our congregation. Action Teams can occur on a regular ongoing basis or be a specific event, which can come up weekly or monthly. Each Action Team will be assigned a specific budget set to accomplish the task. The Team Lead is given freedom to arrange and orchestrate resources and volunteers as they see fit to accomplish the goal of the specific or ongoing event. If you have an idea for an action team, please reach out to Pastor Eric. He would love to talk to you about it! Need some examples on what some small groups / action teams could be? Below are what we received from the congregation when we asked for their input: Outdoor Activities Hunting Mission Opportunities Fishing Studies on Daniel & Snowshoers/Hiking Revelations **Please note that this is just a Golf Outing Membership vs. SMALL example of the groups Picnic Discipleship that can be formed. Page 7 ple come together to worship. Worship lifts our spirit, it offers us forgiveness, and it strengthens our united bond to the Word Made into Flesh. It gives us what we truly need in this life! Many of our habits are beginning to change back into what they once were before, but eventually..., worship needs to be on the top of everyone’s list. Right now, with where we are at currently in our country, I am thankful for the burden continually getting lighter concerning Covid-19, but we are not all there yet as a people at St. Mark’s. As much as I would like to pack the house every time we gather for worship, I realize there is Godly value in seeing family and friends you haven’t for a long time. I also realize there is value in spending time together as a family and recharging your battery for living. In all the commotion and running around that is surely to come in the next few months, and for all the fun and adventures you all have planned, as your pastor, I simply ask that you remind yourself from Whom all blessings flow. We should never get so caught up in living that we forget who gives us life. Place God before all things in your life, and you will be living as He would have you live. When you are ready, hopefully sooner than later, renew, or start fresh, the habit of coming together with God’s people to worship. God and His people will always be here with open arms ready to give you what we all need so badly...love.
