The Gator Gazette Greetings Allisonville Alligators! April 16, 2021 It is with a heavy heart that I write my letter for the Gazette today, as we grieve the senseless loss of life from the mass shooting at the FedEx Ground facility last night. Some of our school community had family and friends working at the facility, but we have received word that all are home and safe now. Whether you were directly impacted by this tragedy or are grieving as an Indianapolis resident, my thoughts and prayers are with you. At Allisonville, we continue to teach kindness and respect for others as we hope and strive for a better, more just world for our children. The value for the month of April is Inclusivity as students put acceptance and respect for one another into action. Students in grades 3-5 will begin the ILEARN State Assessments in reading, writing, math, science (grade 4 only) and social studies (grade 5 only) next week. We will begin with the official ILEARN practice test on Monday and continue with the rest of the sub-tests throughout the week. Virtual Academy students will come in-person to take ILEARN the following week. Although schools will be held harmless for the results of ILEARN this year due to disrupted learning during the Global Pandemic, it is still very important that studen ts take the ILEARN assessment seriously to try their very best. This allows for the state to get a baseline assessment to determine where students fall academically after the year’s fragmented instruction. Please avoid any appointments next week and be sure that your child gets a good night sleep and healthy breakfast on the days of ILEARN testing. Additionally, be sure to give your positive encouragement and belief in their skills and abilities to do their very best. At the end of the month, we will be hosting our annual Scholastic Book Fair from April 22-29. Students can bring money to school to book shop during their media center time. Next week we will be doing a Coin Challenge to raise money so all students can have the opportunity to purchase books at the Book Fair. A Book Fair Sidewalk Sale will be held outside from 4:00-6:00 PM on April 27, 28, & 29 with Kindergarten Registration on April 29th from 5:00-7:00. The Sidewalk Sale will be socially distanced out front of Allisonville and the Kona Ice Truck will be here as well. Teachers will be working the Book Fair and will be excited to visit with families since we cannot have our traditional Spring Open House this year. Please look for more information from Mrs. Weiger elsewhere in the Gazette about the spring Book Fair. We hope your family can find a time to stop by! The district has adopted a new vision for teaching and learning moving forward into next year. We will be moving away from International Baccalaureate (IB) to our new framework named ELEVATE. I invite all parents to join our virtual PTO meeting on Thursday, May 6th at 6:30 to hear more about this new vision via Zoom Webinar. Dr. Buchanan-Rivera, Director of Equity and Inclusion for MSDWT, will also be a guest presenter at this PTO meeting to share about equity and inclusion in Washington Township. Additionally, the 2021- 22 slate for the PTO Board will be shared along with some other updates for PTO next year. I hope you can join us online for this informative evening. As always, thank you for your suppor! We Are The Gators! WE ARE AV! The Gator Gazette IN PERSON STUDENTS. ILEARN testing for in person students in Grades 3-5 will take place each day from Monday, April 19 through Tuesday, April 27. Please do everything you can to have your child at school on time these days, and not pulled out for appointments, if at all possible, as testing occurs all throughout the morning. Students who come in late after testing has begun will not be allowed to join class until after testing is completed. In addition, students who miss test sections must complete make up tests at different times and this can cause unnecessary stress. We thank you in advance for your help to ensure your students do their best on the test! VIRTUAL STUDENTS. Allisonville virtual students in Grades 3, 4, and 5 will need to come in to school to take the ILEARN test, which is a state mandate. Virtual testing dates for 3rd and 5th Grade are Tuesday-Thursday, April 27-29. Testing dates for 4th Grade are Tuesday-Friday, April 27-30. Please see the Parent Square message that was sent on Thursday, April 8 with more information about times and logistics, and to find the survey link to complete for how your child will be getting to and from school on the testing dates. Questions? Reach out to your teacher or Mrs. Bobb, Assistant Principal. 4
