Hydrant Flushing - Week of April 13th, 2020 The semi-annual water main flushing program will begin the week of April 13th, 2020. The process of flushing the water system may result in low water pressure, cloudy or discolored water during the days the system is being flushed. The discolored water is not dangerous to your health. Please be aware of the water quality while doing laundry or other tasks that require rust-free water. Flushing fire hydrants and water mains provide several benefits to the water users of our systems including improving water quality and verifying operation for maintenance or repair. For questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Public Works at (763) 427- 3224. As a reminder, street sweeping will begin the week of April 6th. Smart Irrigation Controllers - Water Conservation for Dayton Residents The City has been exploring ways to conserve water. As a part of this initiative, staff has been awarded a grant to implement a responsible irrigation program. The City will provide residents with a smart controller for their irrigation systems at a discounted rate. The unit will be installed by a City appointed irrigation installer and training will be given at the time of installation. There will be a sign up form on the City website in the near future. Interested residents will be asked to complete the form and return to City Hall along with a $100 deposit. There will be a limited number of these units available and will be distributed by applications received until all of the controllers are distributed. If you would like additional information, please email Martin Farrell at mfarrell@cityofdaytonmn.com. What Requires a Building Permit? Spring is a busy time of year for home improvement projects and construction! Permits and inspections are required by the State for many home improvements projects including: decks, additions, remodels and accessory structures over 200 square feet. Over the counter permits are also required for small improvements such as windows, roofing, residing, or water heaters. Please contact Metro West Inspection Services (763) 479-1720 for any MN State Building Code questions. In addition to building code, the City has requirements that determine where improvements can be located on your property. Zoning code provides regulations related to setbacks, and sizes of improvements allowed in any given zoning district. Please contact the City Planning and Zoning Department (763) 712-3221 for any zoning code related questions. Recent changes to the City Fee Schedule have simplified some fee structures. Decks are now a flat fee of $260 and a $1 state surcharge. Accessory buildings now have fees depending on size of the building. The City also hopes to incentivize remodels and improvements to older homes. Recent changes to the reduced fee schedule have introduced a 25% reduction to permit and plan review fees for additions, remodels, and basement finishes to homes which are 20 years or older. If you have questions regarding any fees, or where permit applications are located on our website, please contact the front desk at City Hall at (763) 427-4589.
