“A current crisis of absent, disengaged
                                    and ill-equipped fathers means many
                                    dads, children and families are
                                    struggling, and this contributes to
                                    increased rates of mental illness,
                                    domestic violence, child neglect and
                                    disadvantage lasting for generations.

It is a critical time for Australians to
                                    recognise the enormous impact that
fathers have on our community and
encourage dads to be the best
father they can be. This is everyone’s
responsibility. Which is why I support
the work of The Fathering Project and
                                    The Australian Fathering Awards and
implore you to do the same.”

All kids deserve to have a wonderful
father or father figure in their life.

Research tells us that fathers and father figures have a strong impact on a child’s social, mental, emotional, physical
and academic outcomes.

Through empowering, mentoring and supporting a father to improve his parenting skills today their child will have
a more positive future tomorrow. Improving fathers’ skills will also improve support for mothers and gender equality
more broadly.

At The Fathering Project, we recognise the critical role of fathers as key influencers of their children’s lives. It is the
most important and impactful job most men will ever have. Everything a father says or does shapes his children’s lives.

The Australian Fathering Awards aim to celebrate fathers and showcase Dads and men who are outstanding
role models that go above and beyond for our children, families, and communities.

They work towards raising awareness, engaging and inspiring other fathers in the wider community to establish a pos-
itive intergenerational impact.

Supporting child wellbeing through The Australian Fathering Awards is not only
socially responsible but demonstrates the commitment to drive positive change and
help create better futures for our children.

With your help, we can embody to Australians across the nation what good fathering
looks like in practice.

Award Categories
Traditionally, The Fathering Award recipients were prominent fathers and father figures. People who publicly work
towards having a positive impact on the future of our children.

In this new era for The Australian Fathering Awards, The Fathering Project and partners will build on these
foundations and drive increased awareness and education involving communities and discovering unsung heroes.

The national 2022 Award categories available for you to support include:

    Australian Father of the Year

The Australian Father’s Day Council will choose this
father from a shortlist of notable Australian dads selected
byThe Fathering Project. Each dad will have acted as an
outstanding role model, demonstrating what it means
to be a father who lives the values and skills The Fathering
Project aims to inspire in all men.

Australian Community Father of the Year

The public will nominate a father or father figure they
believe embodies being a father to many. This winner
will highlight the role and need for men to nurture,
mentor and support every child in their community.
The winner will be chosen by the Australian Father’s
    Day Council.

adults. Again, this winner will be chosen by the
    Australian Father’s Day Council.

    Australia’s Best Workplace for Fathers

Peoples’ concept and view of fatherhood is transforming
as a shift in work-life balance from traditional stereotyping
to family-friendly ethos is evolving. As every community
builds ecosystems that allow more robust mental and
physical health for all, organisations are actively creating
workplaces and cultures that support this positive change.
Employees will nominate their companies for this Award
which will be decided by the Australian Father’s Day
    Council.

Calling all Aussies to nominate a special dad, coach, mentor or father friendly workplace

I’ve grown to accept that success isn’t about being the ‘perfect’ dad. It about being the ‘have a go’ dad, the ‘show-up’
dad, the ’shut-up and listen’ dad.

I don’t have words to describe the sense of pride and love I have for my kids. I just know that being their dad is the
most precious thing in my life, and the most meaningful thing I will ever do. Michael Baldwin, Proud Dad of 5.

Do you know an amazing father or father figure? Someone who should be recognised for going above and beyond
for children, families, and communities?

The 2022 Australian Fathering Awards will shine a light on the importance of fathering, the journey of fatherhood,
and all the benefits that fathers can bring to children’s lives.

Organised by The Fathering Project in partnership with the Australian Father’s Day Council, the Australian
Fathering Awards includes the annual Father of the Year Award as well as three new categories recognising
Community fathers, fathers in sport and father friendly workplaces.

Fathers really matter! The research clearly tells us that fathers have an enormous influence on the health and
wellbeing of their children. Children without an engaged and effective father figure in their lives experience
significantly poorer health and developmental outcomes, and these impacts can last well into adult life and
into future generations.

Put simply, being a father or a father figure to children and young people is the most important job any man will
have, and that’s why The Fathering Project are calling for all Australians to nominate an outstanding role model
who has made a difference to the lives of children and families in their community.

Dr. Mark Cross
‘Being the first openly member of the LGBTQI+ community to receive this award was
fantastic and to get the nod in this way was amazing for me, for my family and for the
                 wider community.

Good fathers and father figures come in all shapes and sizes and from lots of different
backgrounds, so it doesn’t matter who you are, or what you are, loving parents have far
                 more similarities than not.’

                 Dr. Brendan Murphy
“I was honoured and delighted to be named Father of the Year in 2021. Fatherhood is
undoubtedly one of the most important experiences of my life. The unconditional love of
a child, watching every stage of development and the vicarious pride of parenthood are
                 unique formative experiences…”

                 Dr Karl Kruszelnicki
‘For me, being a dad to my three beautiful kids is the most important, and the most
enjoyable and emotional experience I have ever had. Parenting is this incredible ride,
growing kids from babies to adults is messy, and it’s chaotic, but - it’s absolutely mind
expanding and heart opening, especially when you’re lucky enough to love your kids to
pieces and have them love you back.”

                 Justin Langer

‘Being a parent is by far the toughest job I’ve ever had to do. Looking after my kids,
                 wanting to protect them, it’s
a hundred times harder than facing any fast bowler I’ve faced in my career.’

‘Children need to be treated with love, kindness and compassion. That’s an important
lesson I’ve learnt from The Fathering Project.’

‘I think the moment your child is born is the first time you experience unconditional love.’
