Teacher Certification Program Entry Requirements Checklist

The completed application, PACT scores if necessary, and official transcript(s) must be received by August
1st for Fall Semester entry, December 1st for Spring Semester entry, or May 1st for Summer Semester
entry.
There will be a non-refundable $100 application fee collected upon your first registration. Do NOT send
the application fee with your application. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
Note: In the case that you are not accepted, your file will be kept for two years then destroyed.
Requirements for program entry may change based on State Board for Educator Certification rules.

Minimum Requirements for All Applicants
o Contingent upon GPA/Transcript - Pass the Pre-Admission Content Test (PACT)

IF your GPA reflected on your official transcript is less than 2.5 overall or in the last 60 semester credit
hours. In addition, you are required to pass the PACT test if your transcript does not reflect a
minimum of 12 semester credit hours in the area where you wish to be certified or a minimum of 15
semester credit hour in science and math.
o Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university with a minimum of 2.5 GPA overall or in the
last 60 semester credit hours.
o Official university/college transcripts from all institutions of higher education that you attended
sent directly to ACC Teacher Certification Program from the institution showing coursework,
number of credit hours, overall GPA, conferred Bachelor’s degree, date degree was conferred, and
any advanced degrees from an accredited university. Transcripts can be emailed digitally
(preferred) or mailed directly to the ACC Teacher Certification Program from the college or
university, attention Karin Miller at the address above. No photocopies will be accepted. (Do NOT
send transcripts to ACC Admission and Records.)
o If transcripts are from a foreign country, they MUST be evaluated by a TEA Vendor and the
evaluation must state that your degree is equal to an American University’s Bachelor’s degree. A
list of TEA recognized vendors can be found at

ACC Teacher Certification Program Application 2021-2022o If the language of instruction of the out-of-country college/university is not English or the country
is not listed on the TEA website as English speaking, you MUST take and pass all sections of the
TOEFL exam with minimum scores of Speaking 24, Listening 22, Reading 22, and Writing 21.
TOEFL scores are valid for two (2) years from the test date. For more information, go to

o Participate in an Interview. Once your completed application and all materials have been submitted,
an interview will be scheduled by the ACC teacher certification program staff.
o If you are currently enrolled in courses seeking a bachelor’s degree and expect to complete the
courses and other requirements at the end of the semester in which admission is sought to the ACC
program, you may be admitted on a contingency basis pending receipt of an official transcript
showing degree conferred.
o If you are currently enrolled in another educator preparation program, it is necessary that you have
a transfer form completed from the program you are enrolled in. Contact Karin Miller for a transfer
form or request one from your current program.
In addition to the above minimum requirements, be sure that you meet the following technical standards:
√ Ability to complete requirements independently.
√ Ability to understand and implement directions.
√ Valid e-mail address and regular access to a computer.
√ Financial ability to pay program fees and tuition by deadlines.
ABOUT the ACC Program:
• ACC has been rated “Accredited” for the past six years.
• Per Texas Education Agency data, ACC has received a 100% preparation approval rating by campus principals (Texas Education
Agency, 2018) and recipient of two outstanding commendations from the State Board for Educator Certification (2020)
• ACC has a 100% hire rate for its interns.
• Several interns have been recognized on their campuses as “Rookie Teachers of the Year.”
• Reflecting Texas’s high standards for both teachers and students, the ACC teacher preparation coursework focuses on the current
Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for the content areas, as well as the State of Texas Teacher Standards, the Pedagogy and
Professional Responsibilities Standards, Technology Standards, Texas College and Career Readiness Standards, edTPA certification
process, and other requirements as outlined in TAC 228.30.
The supply and demand for teachers in the Austin and Rural Austin area continue to increase. In addition, there is an increase in the number of
resignations and retirements due to the Covid 19 pandemic. At the same time, there has been no slow down of families moving into the Austin
area as exhibited by the real estate market, As families move to the Austin area and the number of new suburban neighborhoods develop,
school district are responding by adding additional schools which require additional teaching staff. In addition, the charter school movement is
expanding in the Austin area. The Wall Street Journal, 2018 reported a shortage of teachers across the United States. All of these factors make
teaching an attractive option at this time.

APPLICANT AGREEMENT
I understand that submission of this application does not obligate Austin Community College in any way and that the
Application fee is non-refundable. I understand that meeting eligibility requirements does not guarantee an interview
or acceptance into the Austin Community College Teacher Certification Program.
I understand that there will be a required criminal background check (CBC), and the State Board for Educator
Certification will complete fingerprinting with a national criminal background check before issuing a probationary,
intern or standard teaching certificate. Having a criminal background may keep me from program acceptance and
from employment in a school district.
I hereby authorize Austin Community College to investigate, through whatever means deemed appropriate by the
college, any information included in this application and facts resulting from the investigations to determine my
suitability for entrance into the Teacher Certification Program. I release Austin Community College from any liability
in connection with the investigation.
I agree to abide by the policies, procedures, rules, and regulations of the Austin Community College Teacher
Certification Program and the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics. Failure to do so will result in dismissal from the
program.
I understand that fees to the State Board for Educator Certification and exam vendor are subject to change and that
exams must be taken when directed.
I agree to pay for each semester by the deadlines indicated. I understand that fees are subject to change, and I agree
to ACC's refund policy for courses. If tuition is not paid by the designated time, I understand that I will be dropped

Discipline Policy and Student Rights and Responsibilities regulations published in the ACC College Catalog and Student

from the ACC teacher certification program. .

for Educator Certification, The Texas Education Agency, and/or any entities related to teaching or working with
children and/or participating or cooperating in teacher preparation and certification programs. Such information may
relate to the application, suitability for internship, employment by a participating school, and/or continuation of the
candidate in ACC’s Teacher Certification Program.
Confidentiality Statement- I am applying for the Teacher Certification Program at Austin Community College. I hereby
give ACC permission to make inquiries concerning my performance in the past and general character as well as my
performance during clinical teaching or internship. This may include information shared with cooperating teachers,
mentors, and principals. I agree that the information will not be disclosed to me, but will be treated as confidential
by ACC. I waive any right to see this information and release ACC’s Teacher Certification Program from liability
involved with the investigation or communication.

Notification: To obtain your teaching certification, you must be in a school as a teacher of record, and having a
criminal history may keep you from employment or clinical teaching. According to H.B. 1498 (TEC21.917),
Texas school districts will run a Criminal Background Check (CBC) to obtain criminal history information on every
employee, candidate for employment, and observer in schools. The State Board for Educator Certification will
also run a fingerprint check when you request probationary, intern, or standard certification. A criminal
history may disqualify your participation in a school district AND from acceptance into the Teacher
Certification Program. You are eligible for a pre-determination of teacher certification by consulting the Texas
