A NOTE TO FAMILIES

We cannot wait to welcome campers to WCC Summer Camp 2022! Our camp staff is
ready to give your camper the best week of their summer.

Safety is our top priority at WCC Summer Camp. We have researched, compiled, and
reviewed all of the current CDC & ACA guidelines and best practices for overnight camps
as they relate to the COVID-19 realities of our world and will continue to do so through-
out the summer. As we learn more about COVID-19 and risk mitigation, we have de-
termined the best way to ensure camper and staff safety is to require either Proof of
COVID-19 Vaccination or a proof of a negative PCR test within 48 hours of camp check-
in for all campers, work crew and Camp Staff. We believe that Safety at camp is at its
best when every camper and staff member follow these guidelines. We are confident
that our pre-camp preparation as well as our ability to respond with speed and agility to
potential changes in policy will allow us to provide all campers with a safe and transfor-
mative camp experience.

We thank you in advance for your partnership with us as we all continue to navigate this
pandemic lifestyle together.

WCC CAMP CHECK-IN
(Wayzata Community Church East Entrance)

Pre-Camp Covid Procedure... Partnering With Parents

• If eligible, we highly recommend campers, and family members get fully vaccinated
for COVID-19. Ideally, wait 2 weeks after completing vaccination for COVID-19 before
    traveling to camp.

• We request that campers, their families, and camp staff follow the most current CDC
and MN State COVID-19 guidances, especially as it pertains to COVID-19 exposure
    prior to arriving at camp.

IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ: ALL CAMPERS, WORK CREW AND STAFF are required to
provide a Proof of Covid-19 Vaccination Card or a negative viral (PCR) test taken no more
than 48 hours before the start of the camper’s session to board the bus. Campers, Work
Crew and Staff are considered fully vaccinated after the completion of the two dose pri-
mary series. Booster shots are encouraged but not required.

Campers can submit their documentation to Mary Jane Hochstein, the Camp Nurse,
in the following ways:
• Email document to maryjaneh@frontier.com
• Text document to 612-669-6285.
• Bring your document to Camp Check-In

IF THERE IS NO RECORD OF A NEGATIVE COVID-19 VIRAL (PCR) TEST OR PROOF
OF COVID-19 VACCINATION BEFORE CHECK-IN OR A RECORD IS NOT BROUGHT TO
CHECK-IN, YOUR CAMPER WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED ON THE BUS OR INTO CAMP.

***CDC does not recommend getting tested again in the three months after a positive
viral test if the person does not have symptoms of COVID-19. Campers and staff who
have had a positive viral test in the 3 months prior to starting camp and have met the
criteria to end isolation should have a letter from their healthcare provider documenting
the positive test date and stating the individual is cleared to end isolation. This docu-
mentation can take the place of a negative Covid-19 test.
n Any campers who are ill with symptoms consistent with COVID-19 during the
72-hours prior to arrival at camp will need to contact the Camp Director to
    reschedule your camp week.
n Any camper that arrives with symptoms consistent with COVID-19 or who develop
symptoms while at camp will be returned home immediately.

CHECK IN TIME
All camp sessions check-in at 1:00 p.m. on the first day of your camp session. The bus
will depart at 2 p.m. sharp.

All campers will be returned to WCC at 12:00 noon on the final day of the session. The
bus may be 10-15 minutes delayed, based on traffic. Cabin assignments will be commu-
nicated at check-in.

TRANSPORTATION
Campers are transported to and from Chi Rho Center by buses, operated by professional
drivers. Please make sure that your camper’s luggage makes it into the luggage com-
partment. Chaperones will be on each bus to ensure a positive experience on the way to
and from camp.

We strongly discourage partial camp experiences due to late arrivals and/or early depar-
tures.

The experience of camp is designed with the expectation that all campers will be there
for the entire camp session; any changes in the makeup of the camper population af-
fects not only the absent person but all of those in camp.

Any late arrivals or early departures must be approved by the Camp Director, at least
7 days prior to the camper’s session.
**There will be an adult chaperone on each bus to camp.

CAMP CHECK-IN & RETURN PROCEDURES
*Note for packing: Camp is a tobacco-free, vape free, drug-free, alcohol-free and weap-
on-free environment. Tobacco, vapes, illegal drugs, alcohol, and weapons are strictly pro-
hibited. Any deviation from this policy will be cause for immediate removal from camp.

		 • Confirm name & receive cabin assignment
		 • Pick-up camp t-shirt.

  2. Bag Tag Station
		 • Your camper’s bag will be labeled based on cabin assignment. Please
anticipate a volunteer to do a quick ‘safety check’ of your camper’s bag.
Gloves/Masks will be used and privacy will be ensured. They will be scanning for
				            forbidden items such as:
				Nut snacks
				Cell phones
				Dangerous/forbidden items

  3. Camp Nurse Check-In Station

		 • Sometimes traditional USPS won’t make it to camp in time for your camper’s

You are encouraged to wait with your camper until the bus is loaded and the final head-
count is completed.

GENERAL CAMP INFORMATION

Camp 2022 Theme: The Greatest Gift!
We’re excited to announce that our theme for summer 2022 is The Greatest Gift! The
Greatest Gift is of course love! We will be exploring the idea that all passions and pursuits
are empty without love! To streamline the abstract idea of love for costumes, we are go-
ing to focus on music, especially inspired by a variety of Disney movies, such as Encanto.

Your camper’s “theme costume” should be related to either their favorite Disney char-
acter, their favorite music artist, or anything else music related. We’re so excited to see
your creativity!!

Camp Schedule
To keep the surprise alive for campers, we do not publish our camp schedule. If there are
specific questions or inquires about our schedule, please email camp@wayzatacommu-
nitychurch.org

Staff
Our staff is made up of incredible young adults who pour their heart and soul into en-
suring your camper has the best week of their summer. Our staff is trained extensively
and include members who are lifeguard and CPR certified. Their bios and job descrip-
tions can be found in this packet and on our website at www.wayzatacommunitychurch.

COVID-19 POLICIES AND SAFETY GUIDELINES FOR SUMMER 2022

camps

Facemasks at Camp
All campers should bring 2–3 masks to make it through their week of camp in case poli-
cies shift and masks are required by state guidelines

• Staff will conduct daily “Health Screening” that can help to identify cases of COVID-19,
prevent secondary transmission, and help with contact tracing.
• Staff will clean and disinfect cabins and bathrooms regularly (e.g., in the morning and
evening, after times of heavy use) using EPA-registered disinfect.
• We will monitor ventilation in buildings, such as cabins and dining halls to increase
    air exchange and air filtration.
• Our medical provider will provide an isolation room to separate anyone who exhibits
    COVID-like symptoms.
• When camp staff are away from camp (for example, during days off), they will
engage in low-risk activities. Camp will have all staff do a screening when returning
after time spent away from camp. Camp staff who are fully vaccinated should follow
CDC recommendations for guidance on activities when away from camp.

Case Identification and Contact Tracing
• Our on-site medical professional and leadership staff will contact parents if a camper
appears to be showing any symptoms of COVID-19. If concerns arise, all parties
involved will be asked to talk through options with camp management as we follow
  CDC and MDH guidelines.
• We will isolate campers with symptoms immediately, and a parent will be contacted
with recommendations for testing. They should remain isolated until parents can
  come pick-up their camper.
• Because of the short length of our sessions — camp will NOT be rapid testing
campers on-site for COVID-19. Parents or Guardians are responsible for transporting
their camper to a certified testing facility.
• If deemed necessary, campers will need to be picked up by a family member — or
have a plan to be picked up within 12 hours.
• If the test result is negative, the person should remain in isolation at home until his
  or her symptoms have improved.
• Once symptoms improve, parents may contact the Camp Director to set up a return
time for their camper. There may be a chance we ask for the camper to not return for
  safety reasons.
• If the test result is positive, the person should remain at home and follow the most
current CDC and MN State guidelines.
• If the test result is positive, PLEASE CONTACT THE CAMP DIRECTOR IMMEDIATELY.

• Camp will then provide spaces for other symptomatic and potentially infected
campers and staff to isolate on-site. Camp will also have procedures in place to help
those potentially sick campers/staff to return home safely.

Capacity
Summer Camp capacity is 61 campers/session and no more than 12 work crew members/
session.

Per the CDC, masks will not be required at camp. WCC reserves the right to require
masking should the situation warrant based on COVID-19 numbers or changes to state
and/or federal mandates.

Campers have opportunities each day to buy specialty items at the camp store. Clothing
items and gifts, such as hats, t-shirts and sweatshirts range in price from $5 to $50. You

at the Camp Store (preferred). Campers may also purchase items or snacks with cash.
Parents should use their own discretion in the amount of extra money sent with their
camper. No refunds will be given on camp store deposits.

Cell Phones
To keep camp as “sacred space,” it is important that cell phones are eliminated as a
distraction. This policy insures the experience of each individual camper, as well as the
group community that is formed. Thank you for supporting us in this effort!

Please remember that phones are available and used by the Camp Director, in cases of
emergency or necessary contact from parents at home. If campers mistakenly bring
phones they will be kept by the Camp Director until the session is ended.

Meals
Three meals and an evening snack are provided daily by the Chi Rho Center staff. In ad-
dition, campers are able to purchase snacks at the camp store each afternoon.

**CAMP IS NUT FREE**

We are able to accomodate most dietary restrictions. Please make sure your
campers needs are well documented on their Campsite profile, or feel free to send an
email to Camp.

*** Due to food allergies in camp, please do not send any additional snacks or food
with your camper. ***

Homesickness
It is appropriate to acknowledge that homesickness can be a normal part of going to
camp, particularly for the first-time camper. You may wish to tell your child that he/she/
they may miss home, but he/she/they will also have some enjoyable experiences and
may even end up wishing camp was longer.

We suggest reassuring your child that you will send letters and you will be there to pick
him/her/them up when the bus arrives on their return date from camp. Please do not
make promises that your child can call or come home, or that you will call them. It has
been our strong experience that this is not helpful for campers. We will be in contact if
the situation requires that. Rest assured your camper will be cared for in a supportive,
nurtur- ing manner. Counselors and staff are especially trained in helping children ad-
just to camp while minimizing homesickness.

Within any group of peers there is the possibility for social challenges. Our counseling
staff are trained in help- ing to discourage hurtful or exclusionary behavior, and to help
in mediating any conflicts that exist or arise. Our daily activities are based on inclusiv-
ity and safe and kind fun – never at the expense of anyone’s feelings, sense of value or
well-being. Any bullying or mistreatment of a camper is unacceptable and will be con-
fronted by the counseling staff and the Camp Director.

Reminders
Camp is a tobacco-free, vape free, drug-free, alcohol-free and weapon-free environ-
ment. Tobacco, vapes, illegal drugs, alcohol, and weapons are strictly prohibited. Any
deviation from this policy will be cause for immediate removal from camp.
The official 2022 camp t-shirt will be distributed at camp check-in.

Camper Inclusion
Wayzata Community Church Summer Camp does not discriminate on the basis of race,
religion, sexual orientation, disability, national or ethnic origin in administration of its
camp-administered programs, educational policies, admission policies, or scholarship
programs; nor does it discriminate against transgender and gender nonconforming
campers and staff.

Wayzata Community Church Summer Camp is continuously listening, learning, and
growing. We want camp to be as safe as it possibly can for all of our campers. If there are
specific ways camp can adapt to make your camper feel as welcomed and comfortable
as possible, please do not hesitate to reach out to either:

Personal items
Counselors cannot be responsible for the care of a camper’s personal items. Please label
all clothing and personal items. Valued and treasured items should only be brought to
camp with the realization that they may get lost or damaged. Please help your camper

gust. However, when the role of Camp Director came open,
he jumped at the opportunity to serve in this area. Nash has
always been drawn to camp ministries in a variety of ways.
Whether serving on program staff at sleep-away camps, or

Now, to be part of WCC—a vibrant faith community—and
the opportunity to lead a ministry area that has meant so
much to students and leaders in our church is such an hon-
or! As he moves forward in his role, Steven hopes to strike
a balance of holding true to what has made WCC’s camp
great as well as finding new ways to engage our students
and grow faith through the ministry of Camp! Most of all,
Steven is committed to ensuring WCC Summer’s Camp is
to be a place of safety and support for our students, both

involved.

JOSH VELNER, CABIN LEADER
Josh (he/him) just finished his freshman year at the Uni-
versity of St. Thomas, and is majoring in Business and Fi-
nance. Josh’s goals include continuing to grow as a person
and his relationships, as well as eventually starting his own
business and have a friend start it up with him! His favor-
ite hobbies include hanging out with friends, skiing, and
playing sports with friends. His favorite food is definitely
his grandma’s spaghetti, and all he watches on TV is sports
or Impractical Jokers. Josh is looking forward to getting to
meet all the campers, build relationships with them as well
as everyone on staff, and create memories that will last a
lifetime and have fun!

GRACE GONDECK, Cabin Leader
Grace (she/her) will be attending UC Davis this upcoming
fall, and one of her goals is to live abroad for a year! Grace
Loves to draw, read, and bake in her free time, and she is
