MISSION Ensure hygiene, health, and beauty in the most effective possible way and in full respect of the environment. Being aware of market demands, taking into account not only economic, but also ecological and social aspects.
THE FIRST REPORT DURING The invisible Covid-19 has revealed the contradictions, tensions, and distortions of an unsustainable develop- ment model. The crisis caused by the pandemic has THE PANDEMIC YEAR, highlighted how sustainable social and environmental impact is also a duty for the economic world. A CHALLENGE TO BE SEIZED; The adoption of good practices of the Circular Econ- omy, also strongly supported by the European Union since 2015, with an emphasis placed on the use of re- OPPORTUNITIES TO BE CREATED sources and the reduction of waste production, as well as the European Green Deal, with a requirement to be- come carbon neutral in 2050, have placed before us the paradigm that economic growth cannot be dissociated from the use of resources. Globally, the UN is making the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development increasingly in- cisive, with 17 challenging goals, and an integrated ac- tion plan for people, the planet, prosperity and peace. The new goals are intended to be a boost, particular- ly for the economic sector. The SDGs era recognizes that companies play a key and decisive role for sus- tainable development. A strongly proactive approach to sustainable development for the next 15 years is re- quired of all companies, regardless of size, sector and geographical location, thanks to new models of respon- sible economic activity, investments, innovation, tech- nological enhancement and development, and acting in partnership. In the most difficult year that the country has had to face since 1945, the year in which Vebi Istituto Biochimico was born, we have decided on a “rebirth” and on presenting our approach to sustainability. A challenge to be seized; opportunities to be created. 6 Vebi Istituto Biochimico Sustainability Report / 2020 Vebi Istituto Biochimico Sustainability Report / 2020 7

Vebi also participates in the pursuit of SDGs through a business model linked to target- ed investments, responsible innovation, at- tention to health and safety, and the devel- opment of new skills. The correlation between the compa- ny’s 14 material goals, the corresponding GRI-Standards indicators, and the objec- tives of the 2030 Agenda is based on the guidelines indicated in “GRI-Linking the SDGs and the GRI Standards,” last update September 2020. 34 Vebi Istituto Biochimico Sustainability Report / 2020 Vebi Istituto Biochimico Sustainability Report / 2020 35
