2014/2015 Season “Suoni da Favola (Fairytale Sounds)” “Tutti a Santa Cecilia!” is the season of concerts, shows and other educational events especially for children (beginning with newborns), young people, schools, families and new audiences in general who would like to get to know the world of music better. Curated by the Education Sector of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, everything takes place at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome. This season is entitled “Suoni da Favola (Fairytale Sounds)”, to express the way music can lead us into the wonderland of the imagination. The cornerstone of the season, which was created in 1997 at the behest of then President Prof. Bruno Cagli, is its rich calendar of concert-shows, or lesson-concerts in which the many characteristics of music itself, or a family of orchestral instruments, or a group of choral voices, is explored and examined in depth. Amongst these are Cenerentola (Cinderella), in which young musicians ages 5-12 from the JuniOrchestra and the Voci Bianche (Children’s Choruses) perform onstage; the traditional performances with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia symphonic Orchestra and Chorus, and the cycle of MusiFavole (MusicalTales) – interactive musical fairytales for very small children. There is a special section for families – “La sera e nel Weekend… Tutti a Santa Cecilia!… (evenings and weekends)” - which offers “Matinée Musicali (Musical Matinées)” – and a special concert to celebrate the Befana, the most famous ‘little old lady’ in the world, who arrives at the Accademia ‘di Not(t)e’ (at ‘Notefall’, when it’s ‘pitch dark’ outside). This year’s novelty is the Casella Project, a course especially for high school students, about the life and music of the famous Italian composer. In addition to the shows, there are lesson-concerts in the series called La Musica da Vicino (Music Up Close), which are about instruments and voices, where kids learn by doing: they get to play orchestra instruments, construct them, conduct and sing. Also for school children there are Proved’ascolto (Open Dress Rehearsals) and Mettiamoci alla prova! (Let’s Give It a Try!), where the children get to sit onstage next to the musicians. For those who would rather improve their own musical skills, “Tutti a Santa Cecilia!” is continuing its successful education program, which has led to the formation of the JuniOrchestra, the Voci Bianche (Children’s Choruses) and the Cantoria, courses of high artistic quality in which children learn how to play and sing together, and then perform in exciting venues. There are also some “Tutti a Santa Cecilia” projects meant to encourage underprivileged children and boost wellbeing: the Do, Re, Mi Fa...bene! (Do, Re, Mi… Is Good for Me!) concerts take place in hospitals; and with Musica in-attesa (Music for Moms-to-be) the protagonists are expectant mothers and their unborn children.
The entire “Tutti a Santa Cecilia!” season will be presented on 15 October 2014 at 17:30 at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, and activities will begin in November 2014. ALTA FORMAZIONE PROGETTI ARTISTICI MASTER COURSES ARTISTIC PROJECTS This year the Progetto Opera (Opera Project) of the “Santa Cecilia Opera Studio” workshop is dedicated to a famous one-act farce by Domenico Cimarosa, “L’Impresario in angustie (The Impresario in Distress)”. The plot spins a hilarious backstage satire on the theater world, as it follows the preparations for mounting a new opera under the guidance of an impresario-huckster (Don Cristobolo), who struggles with a no-talent composer (Gelindo), an ignorant librettist who is fanatical about classical literature (Don Perizonio), and three divas vying with each other for leading roles; there are gorgeous costumes, extravagant fees and a comic character, Strabinio, singing a secondary role. The plot is enlivened by amorous intrigues and rivalries, and is ultimately resolved only when the impresario suddenly goes bankrupt. The work will be performed by young artists from Santa Cecilia Opera Studio, together with Ensemble Novecento, the orchestral ensemble composed of students in the Accademia’s instrumental master courses.
