Adaption is an exhibition that reflects on the many values
of healthy environments, ones we create for ourselves as
communities and those larger forces beyond our control.
Featuring work by Queensland artists Miles Allen, Helena
Jackson-Lloyd and Nicola Moss, each artist brings a dialogue in
response to their contemporary relationship with the Australian
landscape and time spent in the Redlands Coast.

Floor Talk and Light Lunch 12noon Thursday 23 January

Beneath the Surface visually represents the unseen, inner
workings of the body, while referencing the complimentary and
compelling relationship between visual art and medical science.
Chrys Zantis’ heat manipulated fabric pieces ‘hold the memory’
of objects used to shape the medium and leave pockets of
air in their wake. Also poetically referencing the ephemeral
brain-body connection and representing the breath as central to
mindfulness. Circular frames recall scientific apparatus like the
microscope, magnifying glass and petri dish, while textiles form
artistic representation of body tissues for visitors to explore.

Acclaimed ceramicist Prue Venables is the ninth artist in
the Australian Design Centre series Living Treasures: Masters
of Australian Craft, which celebrates the achievements of
Australia’s most iconic crafts practitioners. The works of Prue
Venables show a true mastery of materials. They demonstrate
a profound understanding of porcelain, the most precious and

are expressed in rigorous works of refined detail. These are

Response is an exhibition by Carol McGregor, an artist of
Wathaurung and Scottish descent, reflecting on the 250th
anniversary of British explorer James Cook and his voyage
to Australia. McGregor’s research into Response involved
discussion and consultation with Quandamooka and south-
east Queensland Aboriginal communities. This sits alongside
her own personal reflections on what was here, looked after
and used as a resource before colonisation. The exhibition will
be anchored by a possum skin cloak and include a series of
sculptural works and works on paper.

Fragments: A Printed Environment is an archive of Tamika Grant-
Iramu’s experiences and impressions of multiple environments
that she has encountered. By investigating the shapes and
movements that are created by the contrast between structure
and nature, Grant-Iramu uses printmaking as a tool for
reimagining that environment, responding to natural forms that
exist within diverse urban and suburban contexts. Grant-Iramu’s
work brings into focus aspects of the natural environment that
often go unnoticed and yet are an important part of the identity
and culture of place. Tamika Grant-Iramu is represented by
     Onespace Gallery.

Opening Event 6.30pm Friday 26 June

Floor Talk and Morning Tea 10am Sunday 28 June

Canaipa Mudlines began in 2016 with a small collective of
Southern Moreton Bay Island artists seeking ways of connecting
their creative practices with the island ecology. Based on
Canaipa (Russell) Island, the project has developed as both
established and emerging artists from the island and beyond
make regular site excursions to create mostly ephemeral works
in response to the places and qualities they encounter. Working
in this way has contributed to both surprising developments in
their individual practices and highlighting the often overlooked
     richness of the island environment.

                                                                        Image: Sandy Ward, Untitled

Wetlanders: The Overwintering Project Moreton Bay is a collection
of original prints, artist books and drawings sourced from
sojourns across Moreton Bay by Anna Bonshek, Jen Conde,
Catherine Money, Sandra Pearce, Sue Poggioli, Jenny Sanzaro-
Nishimura, Helen Sanderson, Jennifer Stuerzl, Evelyne Upton
and Pat Zuber. Known as the Migaloo Press Artists Collective
they have been meeting and collaborating with other artists,
bird watchers and environmentally concerned people
around Moreton Bay. Their documentation and drawing is an
exploration of life in the intertidal zones along the shores of the
     bay and its southern islands.

Placemaking centres on creating a space for youth to
communicate issues that are relevant to them and to the
wider community. Urban artist Sarah Sculley uses the human
form, typography and colour to create bold works inspired by
personal events, emotional pitfalls and the need to find the
positive in every situation. This exhibition brings her bright
work together with the photography of Lara Furst to create a
place that explores the universal challenges experienced by
Redlands Coast youth and their counterparts in the Philippines.

Opening Event 6.30pm Friday 7 August

Floor Talk and Morning Tea 10am Sunday 9 August

The Port series by Damien O’Mara presents several large,
industrial landscape photographs of the Port of Brisbane.
The images are shot with a consistent method and
composition, in reference to the objective methodology
used by late-modern, industrial photographers like Lewis
Baltz, Bernd and Hilla Becher and Andreas Gursky. O’Mara’s
exhibition challenges this aesthetic through a unique
combination of objective method and abstraction. While
the images display symmetry and grid-like composition,
they also contain conflicting elements such as vivid,
     digital colour and abstracted form.

                                                                  Image: Damien O’Mara, Bunga

Opening Event 6.30pm Friday 7 August

Floor Talk and Morning Tea 10am Sunday 9 August

Dennis McCart’s paintings in Contested Landscapes are derived
from urban fringe sites that are both visually compelling and
charged with implications of use, development and ownership.
These sites of abandonment are often uninhabited for long
periods of time – they are the city’s unkempt wilderness. His
artworks are both a response to and an interpretation of the
anthropogenic climate change we are living in. They also express
McCart’s anxiety about the condition of landscape and nature in
     our world today.

Image: Dennis McCart, Some kind of

                 Reasonable & Necessary
Prints and artist books by Artel Artists

Floor Talk and Light Lunch 12noon Thursday 17 September

Artel, the creative studio of CPL – Choice, Passion, Life, is
located in Redcliffe and provides the necessary tools, space,
and instruction to support its artists to creatively express
themselves as a dynamic artistic movement. The exhibition title
Reasonable & Necessary is taken from the National Disability
Insurance Scheme (NDIS) criteria. With the uncertainty
surrounding the NDIS, the Artel studio is not just reasonable
and necessary but essential, providing real career prospects for
artists. Works in the exhibition captivate on many levels. They
have been grouped by the exhibition Curator, Lynne Seear, into
eight themes: Places, People, Family, Voices, Sailing, Driving,
     Mark Making and Artist Books.
An exhibition held in conjunction with Queensland Disability Action Week 2020.

Clare Belfrage: A Measure of Time

Opening Event and Floor Talk 6.30pm Friday 11 September

With a career spanning almost three decades, the multi-award
winning artist Clare Belfrage has forged an international
reputation for her finely detailed glass sculptures that marry
organic blown forms with intricate line work. Throughout her
career, Belfrage has maintained a vibrant studio glass practice
and is known for her distinctive artworks in which complex
patterns of fine glass lines trace her forms. Inspired by the
repetitious patterns found in nature and the woven lines of
textiles, Belfrage is particularly drawn to the layered rhythms that
mark growth, change and the passing of time in the natural world.

Opening Event 6.30pm Friday 11 September

Floor Talk and Morning Tea 10am Sunday 20 September

In her exhibition Presence of Place, Catherine Parker celebrates
the beauty in both the urban and natural landscape, choosing
to honour, rather than divide the two. Exploring different
regions through her paintings on wood and canvas, Parker takes
heart that within any landscape there are always mysterious
elements. For her, a sense of being watched, an invisible
presence perhaps that keeps the balance in check.

                    Artistic Endeavour

Opening Event and Floor Talk 6.30pm Friday 11 December

Curated by Beth Jackson in collaboration with artist and
botanist Dr Nita C Lester, Artistic Endeavour: Contemporary
botanical artists’ response to the legacy of Banks, Solander and
Parkinson reflects on the significance of botanical specimens
collected from our region 250 years ago and the emergence of
botanical art. It showcases 65 exquisite works by 33 members
of the Botanical Artists’ Society of Queensland. The exhibition
showcases diverse approaches to botanical art, from traditional
to contemporary. It focuses on the development of botanical
art as artists established more transportable methods and
materials to enable them to join scientists in the field.

                                                                        Image: Anne Hayes, Banksia serrata,
