Welcome to The Marlowe’s Summer Season. In January we were delighted to be awarded Theatre of the Year 2022 at the national Stage Awards, for our work supporting regional artists and communities, and our place in the vanguard of the recovery of the British theatre sector. Judges referred to our output as ‘extraordinary given that it receives no public subsidy and relies on box office revenue for 99% of its income’. This season we intend to live up to our award, with Summer at the a raft of shows from the best of the West End and Marlowe – check our national touring circuit; a studio season previewing website for updates some great new theatre and comedy before it hits on this year’s world Edinburgh and the festival circuit; and a summer of music and food by The Marlowe wins Theatre of the outdoor events extending along the river with a focus the river. Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures’ Cygnet School and Projekt Europa’s Projekt Encounter provide extensive and groundbreaking skills development programmes for young dancers and migrant communities. Further afield, our Shakespeare Nation community company take on a new challenge in May – performing on the main stage in Stratford-upon-Avon in the RSC’s epic Henry VI: Rebellion!
