SUMMER HOLIDAY ASSIGNMENT (2020-21) CLASS X ENGLISH This holiday homework will be considered as a Subject Enrichment Activity for Term I. I. Children……Holidays are time when you can indulge in reading, reading for pleasure. Reading is the best technique of increasing your vocabulary and enhancing your speaking skills. A well read man is always prepared to handle any situation. Wodehouse II. Beat the Heat with inspirational pictures / movies – A great film strikes through to the heart of what it means to be human, inspiring the mind and moving the spirit. Underdog stories, tales of incredible transformation, overcoming immense hardship, and the journey of an average person to heroism. Such tales stay with us forever and inspire in us something that we never knew was there. These are some of the most inspirational movies of all time. Growing up, “Remember the Titans” was one of them. Titans is a movie about winning, perseverance, racism, and unity. It’s about seeing beyond the colour of someone’s skin to what lies at the heart, who we truly are. It’s about worlds literally colliding and something absolutely incredible coming forth from it. (Based on lesson 2)
III. LITERATURE (QUESTIONS & ANSWERS) a. Write a letter as Lencho to your friend and tell him about the destruction of your crops, the letter you wrote to God and the reply with money you received. How did Anne respond to the punishment by Mr. Keesing? What light does it throw on her nature? NOTE: The assignments must be done in the English Language Notebook only. MATHEMATICS Solve the following questions in your Mathematics notebook 1. Check whether the following is a quadratic equation : (x-3) (2x+1) =x(x+5) 2. Represent the following situation in the form of quadratic equation : The area of a rectangular plot is 538m2. The length of the plot (in metres) is one more than twice its breadth. 3. The length of a rectangular field exceeds its breadth by 8m and the area of the field is 240 sq. m. Find the length and breadth of the field. 6. Solve the following quadratic equation for x: √3x2 + 10x -8√3 =0 7. If 1 is root of the quadratic equation 3x2 + ax -2 = 0 and the quadratic equation a(x2+ 6x) -b=0 has equal roots, find the value of b. 8. The sum of two numbers is 10. If the sum of their reciprocals is 5/8, find the numbers?

Find the probability of getting a (i) consonant (ii) vowel ? 12. Two unbiased coins are tossed simultaneously. Twenty cards - the ten, jack, queen , king and ace of spades, hearts , diamond and clubs , are well shuffled, with their face downwards . One card is picked up at random. If a queen is drawn and put aside, what is the probability that the second card picked up is: i) ace ii) a queen iii) a face card 14. Two dice (one blue and one grey) are thrown at the same time. A box contains cards, number 1 to 90. A card is drawn at random from the box. SCIENCE PHYSICS 1. Revise Chapter 12 Electricity 2. Make an Investigatory project on your household Electricity consumption using the electricity bill for last six months. You may use scrap book, graph papers, pie charts, bar graphs etc. Study the units of electricity consumed and the bill amount and find the amount of electric power consumed in watts. 3. On a A3 sheet show the electric circuit symbols giving three dimensional view and cover the sheet with cellophane sheet(if available) 4. Complete the exercise questions of chapter Electricity in the Physics notebook. Note : Both Project File, A3 sheet and notebook to be submitted on reopening day of the school. Prepare a project on different aspects of environmental transformation due to lockdown duringcovid 19 crisis.(To be done on A4 sheets with relevant information and pictures.) Draw well labeled diagram of the following in humans(To be drawn on separate A4 Drawing sheets) i. Digestive system ii. Respiratory system iii. Nephron iv. Heart
SOCIAL SCIENCE HISTORY- Gather information and analyse the role of the Italian revolutionaries Guiseppe Mazzini and Guiseppe Garibaldi and their vision. Prepare a PPT on the female figures who represented nations . Also mention about attributes and symbols . For Eg- Germania, Morianne,etc. Observe the map of Europe after the congress of Vienna,1815 and a map of modern – day Europe . Prepare a write up on the changes observed. POLITICAL SCIENCE- Design a mock parliament and make a note of the issues to be discussed during the different sessions of the parliament. Prepare a chart giving items mentioned in the Union, State and in the Concurrent lists. PREPARE PROJECTS ON THE FOLLOWING- Work done by men and women in the family in the whole day, paid/unpaid. Political representation of women in the Panchayats ,Municiplaties and the Parliament. GEOGRAPHY 1. India is rich in resources but it is still referred to as a poor country. From the internet find out five resources which India is proud of. 2. Enlist the various steps taken by the central and state government towards conservation of forest and wildlife. 3. “Water is a very important and critical resource in India .”Describe the statement on the basis of importance of water in various sectors of economy. How is water getting degraded with its growing use in various sectors. 4. On a political map of India locate the following river valley projects. a. BhakraNangal b. Damodar Valley c. NagarjunaSagar d. Hirakud e. Chambal f. Salal g. Tehri h. Koyna i. Tungabhadra General Instructions: Above questions to be done on A4 size sheets. Use pictures and examples from India. For Map work use Political map of India. This is a portfolio activity. ECONOMICS Project Work: Undertake any one project on the following topics: Consumer Awareness OR Social Issues OR Sustainable Development INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY 1. Make a presentation (project) on the new inventions in the field of Information Technology.(Minimum -6 Slides) 2. Design a poster in MS Word 2010 on Cyber Safety spreading the awareness about the Internet Security and safety.
