It is time to think about summer! Reston Community Center’s staff has put together a great 2020 summer camp season stocked with adventure, learning and opportunities to make new friends. We have full day, half day and child care options designed to meet the needs of busy families. In particular, child care options have been expanded. Campers may be dropped off at 8:00 a.m. and will be supervised until camp starts at 9:00 a.m. We also have Zen Zone after-camp care, which extends the day until 5:30 p.m. Check out Zen Zone options on pages 28 – 29. We have two new pools at RCC Hunters Woods, and we are pleased that Aquatics offerings are returning for Summer 2020. Campers can improve their swimming abilities with Swim Skills or enhance their water safety knowledge at our Junior Lifeguard Camp. Also new for 2020 are Origami for Fun; Create, Design and Reinvent; Robotics – Robo Battles; Harry Potter with LEGO and the Engineering of Travel. New programs just for teens include All Glass Camp, Teen Trendy Jewelry Making and Paintball for Teens. Perennial favorites such as Young Actors Theatre, LARK (Lake Anne Art Rave for Kids), Pawtopia Pet Camp and woodworking camps will fill up fast. Be sure to register early (February 1, Reston; February 8, Non-Reston) to help your camper get a spot in the camp of their choice this summer. I look forward to summer days filled with the giggles, songs, energy and joy of RCC campers. See you at camp! Karen Brutsché, Leisure & Learning Director

Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they really didn’t do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That’s because they were able to connect experiences that they’ve had and synthesize new things. – Steve Jobs

Combining regular physical activity with a healthy diet is the key to a healthy lifestyle. Some tips for raising healthy kids: • Set a regular schedule for physical activity. • Make being active a part of daily life, like taking the stairs instead of the elevator, and be active together as a family. • Embrace a healthier lifestyle yourself, so you’ll be a positive role model for your family. • Keep it fun, so your kids will come back for more. – Nemours Foundation
