Page 2 REGISTRATION PROCESS On-Line: On-line registration will begin February 18 at www.vernonrec.org Mail-In: Mail-in registrations are processed the day they are received in the mail beginning February 18. Please fully complete the registration form. Incomplete forms will NOT be processed until all items are received. The Vernon Parks & Recreation Dept is NOT responsible for lost or untimely mail delivery. Mail the registration form and payment to the Vernon Parks & Recreation Dept. Walk-In: Walk-in registration will be accepted at the Parks & Rec Dept beginning February 18 after 12:00p.m. Walk-in registrations can be dropped off and will be processed after the daily mail-in registrations have been processed. *ALL Camp registrations are due by 12pm ON THE THURSDAY BEFORE A SESSION BEGINS, AS SPACE IS AVAILABLE. *ALL Aquatic registrations are due by THE WEDNESDAY BEFORE A SESSION BEGINS, AS SPACE IS AVAILABLE. Skyhawks Sport Camps Register for Skyhawks Sport Camps by calling 860-804-3509 OR visit them online at www.skyhawks.com PAYMENT PROCESS Summer Day Camp: BEFORE & ON May 22: Registration on or before May 22, must include a completed registration form and at least half (50%) of the total cost to reserve your spot(s), the remainder of the balance is due by June 5 or your spot(s) may be relinquished. AFTER May 22: Registrations after May 22 must include a completed registration form and full 100% payment for camp to reserve your spot(s). Aquatics & Specialty Camps: FULL PAYMENT is required upon registration. Forms Of Payment: Cash, Bank Checks, Personal Checks (payable to “Town of Vernon”), Money Orders, Visa, Mastercard or Discover are accepted. Any personal check returned for insufficient funds will incur a $25 fee.
Page 3 SCHOLARSHIPS For Summer Day Camp ONLY Vernon residents may call the Vernon Social Services Dept at 860-870-3661 to schedule an appointment to see if eligible for a scholarship. Social Services will begin accepting scheduling calls Feb 3, with appointments starting Feb 10. This must be done prior to registering for camp. Scholarships can be used for Kiddie, Henry Park, Center 375, Newhoca and Extended Day. Scholarship recipients must bring approved Social Services form, with completed Camp registration form AND payment to the Parks and Recreation Department to complete registration process and secure spots. You can NOT register at Vernon Social Services. Spots will NOT be held without payment. SUMMER SCHOOL & SUMMER DAY CAMP Partnership between the Board of Education and the Parks & Recreation Dept provides the opportunity for children to attend summer school and summer camp simultaneously. If your child is attending the Vernon Board of Ed Summer School, a $10 discount will be given towards the camp session(s) that coincide with Summer School, as long as you are not receiving any other discounts towards camp. To register for Board of Education Summer School, please call 860-870-6000. Your child must be registered/enrolled for summer school to receive the discount. The Board of Ed will bus your child to Camp after school. Upon camp registration, please inform Parks & Recreation of the full summer school schedule for your child. REFUND/TRANSFER/CANCELLATION POLICY A refund of 75% will be granted if: *A written request for withdrawal/cancellation is submitted at least 2 weeks prior to the session start date. Full refunds are only granted if: *Absence for medical reasons WITH doctor’s note provided within 2 weeks of absence. *Program is cancelled by the Parks & Recreation Department No other refunds will be granted. Transfers are not accepted. Transfers are considered a cancellation from a program and then enrollment in another, and will follow refund policy above. Programs are still running unless you hear from the Parks & Recreation Department or is noted on the website. NOTE: Swim activities are held in the rain unless you are informed otherwise.

CAMP SESSIONS Kiddie, Center 375, Newhoca & Henry Park Camps Session 1: June 22-26 Session 5: July 20-24 Session 2: June 29-July 3 Session 6: July 27-31 Session 3: July 6-10 Session 7: August 3-7 Session 4: July 13-17 Session 8: August 10-14 Late Pick Up Fee for All Camps: Late fees apply to those who are not picked up on time. Fee is $5 for the first 15 minutes, $1 per minute there after. KIDDIE CAMP Kiddie Camp is for children ages 4-5 years old as of September 1, 2020. Camp is split into a morning session and afternoon session. If you chose to register for both, we offer Lunch Bunch to meet 12-12:30. Lunch Bunch is ONLY available to those registering for both time sessions within the same week. If you are registering for both sessions and do NOT use Lunch Bunch, we are NOT responsible for your child during the gap. Campers must be fully potty trained to attend this program. This location features fields and a kiddie pool only. Children do activities that focus on interaction with peers, have theme weeks, physical fitness, educational learning activities, arts and crafts, story time, and much more. Campers are eligible to register for the Center 375 Extended Day program. Limit is 24 campers. Page 5 CENTER 375 CAMP This camp is for children that are entering grades 1-6 for the 20/21 school year. This location features a swimming pool, softball field for games, basketball court, playground, picnic area and an air conditioned indoor facility. Campers enjoy fun theme days, physical fitness, arts and crafts, open swim and much more! Campers are eligible to register for the Center 375 Extended Day program. Limit is 80 campers. Camp Hours: 9:00am-3:30pm Camp Location: 375 Hartford Turnpike—meeting point picnic tables by side parking lot Fees Per Session: Residents: $90 Non-Residents: $100 CAMP NEWHOCA This camp is located at Newhoca Park on Middle Bolton Lake. It is for campers that are entering grades 1-8 for the 20/21 school year. This camp features swimming in the lake, kayaks, canoes & paddle boats, basketball courts, hiking, field games, arts & crafts and much more! This camp has indoor facilities featuring an Arts & Crafts cabin, Game Room, Lodge and office. During sessions 5 and 7, campers ages 11+ are eligible to sign up for a sleepover at Camp Newhoca (weather pending) on the Thursday evenings. Campers are eligible to register for the Newhoca Extended Day program. Limit 120 campers. Page 6 EXTENDED DAY This is an extension to the summer camp day that allows you to drop off your child as early as 7:30am and stay as late as 6:00pm in the evening. Camp Hours: Extended A.M.—7:30-9:00am Extended P.M.—3:30-6:00pm Camp Location: Center 375 Extended Day—375 Hartford Tpke Newhoca Extended Day—195 Grier Road Fees Per Session: Extended A.M. Residents: $25 Non-Residents: $30 Extended P.M. Residents: $35 Non-Residents: $40 Please note, the extended day program is NOT available for Henry Park campers. HENRY PARK CAMP This camp is for children that are entering grades 1-7 for the 20/21 school year. This location features a swimming pool, multiple fields, volleyball & basketball courts and a playground with a spray pad. A Free lunch program is offered at this site. In the event of inclement weather, campers will be bussed to one of the town’s schools. Campers are NOT eligible for the extended day program. Limit is 100 campers. Page 7 HENRY PARK TEEN CAMP Teen camp is for teens that are entering grades 8-10 for the 20/21 school year. All campers will meet at the Hartmann Pavilion. Campers will go on 1-2 field trips per session. Campers must be enrolled in the session to go on the trips. In the event your camper does not attend the field trip, they are welcome to come to camp before and/or after the trip, however, while the campers are on the field trip those not choosing to go on the trip must be signed out of camp during the duration of the trip, they will not be able to attend and be supervised by another program at the park. A Free lunch program is offered at this site. Please note, on days of field trips, the free lunch program may not be available to campers. In the event of inclement weather, campers will be bussed to one of the town’s schools. Campers are NOT eligible for the extended day program. Limit is 20 campers. SPECIALTY CAMPS Page 8 INTENSIVE DANCE CAMP This Beyond Dance Intensive Dance Camp is for dancers ages 11+ with prior experience. Participants will do concentrated work on numerous dance styles. Wear appropriate clothes and shoes to comfortably move around and dance in, bring a snack and plenty of water. Camp Dates: August 3-7 Camp Hours: 12:00-3pm Camp Location: Rockville High School Dance Rm, 70 Loveland Hill Rd Fees: Residents $80 Non-Residents $90 DANCE CAMP - 1/2 Day and Full Day These camps are for children ages 7-12 yrs old. Fun-filled, high energy camp with staff from Beyond Dance. The participants will enjoy dancing numerous styles to modern music, do Zumba, sing and more! Wear appropriate clothes and shoes to comfortably move around and dance in, bring snacks and plenty of water. 1/2 DAY CAMP: Camp Dates: August 3-7 Camp Hours: 8:30-11:30am Camp Location: RHS Dance Rm, 70 Loveland Hill Fees: Residents $80 Non-Residents $90 FULL DAY CAMP: Camp Dates: August 17-21 Camp Hours: 8:30am-3:30pm Camp Location: Center 375 Dance Rm Fees: Residents $130 Non-Residents $140 *Full Day Camp will swim at Community Pool. Bring a bathing suit, towel, lunch that does not require refrigeration, snacks and water. KIDDIE DANCE CAMP This camp is for children ages 4-6 years old. Campers will enjoy a fun-filled morning to keep their feet moving to the beat. Numerous dance styles will be taught, including tap, jazz and hip hop. Ballet and tap shoes are recommended, but not required. Dancers of all abilities are welcome. Camp will be directed by Jessica Foster and other Beyond Dance staff. Page 9 FASHION & MODELING CAMP John Casablanca’s Fashion & Modeling Camp provides children with a wonderful experience of learning the tips of looking like a model, developing their etiquette skills for any setting, feeling good about themselves, perfecting who they are inside and out, and tapping into their fashion talents. Page 10 SKYHAWKS SPORT CAMPS Tiny-Hawk (soccer and basketball) The essentials of soccer and basketball are introduced in a fun and safe environment with lots of encouragement. Children ages 3-4 will learn balance, body movement, hand/eye coordination, and skill development through a series of sport-specific games tailored to their attention spans. Our staff are trained to handle the specific needs of these young athletes. Page 12 AQUATIC PROGRAMS GROUP SWIMMING LESSONS Offered for children 18 mths-14 yrs old (age as of first day of session date). Programs range from Baby & Me classes through Level 4/5. Lessons meet for eight classes over two weeks, Monday through Thursday with Fridays/ Saturdays used for make-up classes. In the event a swimming lesson is cancelled, the instructor will notify participants. If we do not contact you, assume the class is running. Refunds/credits are not provided for missing a scheduled class. Class Minimum/Maximum All lessons are group classes with no more than 6 participants per Instructor. Classes must reach a minimum of 4 participants to run. The registration deadline is Wednesday prior to the first day of class. We will make every attempt to run all advertised classes. If your class does not reach minimum participation requirements, you will be notified on the Thursday prior to the first class and a full refund or transfer to a future class will be available. Level Requirements Level descriptions can be found online or in our office. If a participant is registered for a class more advanced than their ability, instructors will let you know on the first day of class. Participants may not remain in a class that is unsafe for their ability level. Every attempt will be made to transfer your registration to an appropriate level class during the same session. If this is not available, you have the option to transfer your registration to a class in a later session, or have a credit applied to your account. It’s recommended that participants in Semi-Private lessons be of similar swimming abilities, but not required. Private & Semi-Private lessons are 30 minute sessions 4 days a week and are available for any skill level. Lessons are held Monday-Thursday; Fridays are used for make-up in the event of inclement weather. Participants must be at least 4 years old. Registration for Private lessons can be done online or in our office. Registration for Semi-Private lessons must be done in person at the Parks & Recreation office. Page 14 GATORS SWIM TEAM Swimmers 18 years old & younger, join the Gators Swim Team! Make new friends and improve your technique while having fun under the sun. All swimmers must be able to swim the length of the pool without stopping. Practices are one hour in length. Gators Swim Team competes in the Central CT Swim League. The team holds practices or meets Monday-Thursday for one hour. Children 8 and under and first year team members should attend the 5:00am practice. All team members will receive a Gators swim cap. Due to Central Connecticut Swim League rules, we may only accept non- residents from Tolland, Bolton, Ellington and Manchester. Dates: late June-early August Practice Schedule: Monday-Thursday evenings Practice Location: Horowitz Pool, Henry Park, 120 South Street Fees: Residents $130 Non-Residents $150 Want to know if the Gators are right for you? Join us on Monday June 8th, 5:30-6:30pm for a pre-season Gators meet-up! Children will have the opportunity for lap swim, parents have a Q & A with coaches and you can meet our mascot! On-site registration will be available. This is not a drop off practice, parents must remain within the facility at all times. 66th ANNUAL GREATER VERNON SWIM CHAMPIONCHIPS This meet is open to all swimmers age 18 and under. Compete for the pool record, and best overall Male or Female swimmer. This event is administered by Vernon Gators Swim Team Coaches and Volunteers. The Greater Vernon Swim Championships is held on Thursday July 30th (rain date 7/31). Warm-up begins at 5:00pm, meet starts at 5:30pm. Reception and award ceremony held immediately following the meet at Hartmann Pavilion. Registration opens July 1st. Registration Fees: Gators swim team members $12 Non-members $15 Participant registration fee includes meal ticket at the reception. Meal tickets for parents & spectators will be available for purchase.
Page 15 PUBLIC SWIM SCHEDULE Vernon Parks and Recreation offers three Aquatic Sites for public swim. Swimming is only allowed when Lifeguards are on duty. Inclement weather, special event programming and other factors may cause public swim schedule to vary. Children 12 years old or under must be supervised at all times by someone 18 years old or older. Supervision ratios cannot exceed 1:4. Groups planning to exceed this ratio must call the Parks & Recreation Department at least 2 weeks in advance to schedule a visit. AQUATIC FACILITY SEASON PASS Season passes can be purchased at the Parks and Recreation office starting June 1st or any of the Aquatic locations during public swim dates/hours. Vernon Parks and Recreation offers 3 Aquatic Sites for public swim. Swimming is only allowed when Lifeguards are on duty. Passes are non-refundable and non-transferable. All passes are individual passes and cover one person only. Pass holder must have their pass with them when entering a facility and may be asked to provide matching photo identification upon entering a facility. When entering Valley Falls Park passes cover the pass holder only, additional passengers will be charged $1. We are not able to replace lost passes. Proof of residence may be required at time of purchase. Additional facility information can be found online.
