Water Gardens 2021 Free Public Night Sponsored Gardens on Tour Party: Water Garden Society members volunteer to have their ponds on the tour. This is not a tour of judged or selected ponds. Our membership resides throughout the metropolitan area; this year we are breaking the tour into 6 regions throughout the Kansas City Metropolitan area and Lawrence Kansas. The tours will be on Saturdays only from 9am to 5pm starting June 26 and ending on September 11. Each tour will be capped at 10 sites to allow visitors time to see every water garden. Most of the ponds on this tour have been designed and built by society members. The owners will be present to share their experiences and answer your questions. Professional pond designers/builders will also be at sponsored locations to answer questions about professional services. This tour is your opportunity to see how water, fish, and wildlife add interest and excitement to the garden. Visit A New Neighborhood! Enjoy! Be Safe! TOUR 2 JULY 10, 2021 Site ID: C Cynthia 3916 Arlington Avenue Kansas City MO 64133 Features: artist, pets not welcome, DIY built Map link: h ps:// nyurl.com/2021tour2‐C Description: This garden is a secret yard within the city filled with a plethora of plants, old farm equipment, yard art and recycled wind turbines from my roof. There is a small quaint greenhouse built using recycled windows and recycled brick for all the unique walkways. It has an arbor entrance with a mature producing grape vine and a per‐ gola that is located behind the big pond with various seating venues all around the yard. Many different Moai statues, garden Angels and other fun statuary throughout complements the yard. The firepit is a huge old cast iron cauldron previously used around the farm in numerous ways. The garden includes different colorful boulders: misty green, black ice obsidian, royal gorge (pretty red and/or pearl colored), Kiwanee skippers, Dakota gold limestone and the unique talc rock. The pond is a natural spring, fed fresh water from an underground source that flows from the stream bed into the big pond. The spring spills from the limestone rocks shaped like a grotto watched over by the Queen. The newly rebuilt island is surrounded by Dakota limestone, clean gravel, impatiens, sedum, hostas, ferns and of course a Moai. The smaller pond is a Rubber Maid 300‐gallon stock tank watched over by a Moai statue flanked with fun pink garden flamingos. The features include a mini‐water pump, small goldfish and yellow iris. Stop by this yard for a truly unique experience. Site ID: D Ted and Mary Jo 4954 Marsh Avenue Kansas City MO 64129 Key Site Features: trains, artist, pets welcome, DIY built Map link: h ps:// nyurl.com/2021tour2‐D Description: Sponsored by State Farm Insurance Stroll through this park‐like se ng to view 7 blooming ponds, each with a dis nct purpose. TOUR 2 JULY 10, 2021 Site ID: G Kathleen 13001 East 39th Terrace S Independence MO 64055 Features: artist, pets not welcome, professionally built Map link: h ps:// nyurl.com/2021tour2‐G Description: Welcome to my backyard retreat. The water garden is one of the best ways to add visual interest and a sense of peace and calm in this chaotic time. My pond is approximately 1,000‐gallons with 4 koi and an assortment of "surprise" gold‐ fish . . . fish eggs were on some of the water plants we purchased. A single waterfall is the perfect place for the birds to play and shower. Colorful calibrachoa are around the pond to soften the rocks. The aquatic plants are white and red waterlilies, yellow iris and a red calla lily. I'm a beginner gardener and prefer bright colors throughout. I have a hummingbird / butterfly garden; an assortment of coneflowers in my flamingo garden; along with daisies and clema‐ tis, to name a few in the bunny garden. Just a little whimsy throughout. Site ID: H William and Susan 3407 S Davidson Ct Independence MO 64055 Features: artist, pets not welcome, non‐professionally built Map link: h ps:// nyurl.com/2021tour2‐H Description: This pond concept was the result of a vision. It began as a fire pit in a grove of trees in a squishy backyard. Its motto is; if you can dream it, you can do it. Built in 2006 and expanded in 2019, the 12 ft X 15 ft pond has a stream and waterfall. The pond area includes a raised flagstone patio with a stacked stone fire pit. This is definitely not the Gardens at Versailles, nor is it meant to be. The goal was to create an environment that could have evolved naturally. There are Koi and goldfish, water plants and rocks, lots of rocks, some that are water features of their own. The yard has several garden “rooms” including a shade/fern garden, pollinator/butterfly area and a gooseberry patch, among others. There are many native plants and trees. The yard qualifies through the National Wildlife Federation as a Certified Wildlife Habitat. If you do not expect manicured, but prefer natural, you will not be disappointed and may be pleasantly surprised. Please be considerate of mailboxes and driveways while parking on the cul‐de‐sac. Our dogs will not be allowed out so please do not bring yours. Thanks. 1‐ 6

More plants have been added every year increasing the visual interest and aiding in our Koi’s survival. The landscaping originally was done for all shade but after four large trees were removed, the yard is now being integrated with sun plants. As all yards, this is still a work in progress. New fry adding to the established Koi population every year has made for a very active pond life. Our water garden contains a combination of standard goldfish, comets, sarasa and a few Koi. A colorful variety of water plants include waterlilies, sweet flag, water iris, cattail, parrot feather, parrot tail, spider lily, taro and many other smaller marginals. After the sun goes down, our water garden evolves into reflective light play and feathery shadows that are highlighted by the multi‐layered Aquascape landscape lighting. 1‐ 7
