Backyard Assist This year Legacy completed 12 Backyard Assists throughout Brisbane, Maryborough and the Sunshine Coast. These members of our Legacy Family are incredibly deserving of the backyard transformations! Thank you to the countless corporates, local businesses and Australian Defence Force units who supported with not only elbow grease but also generous financial contributions! Backyard Assist New Bikes Bring Big Smiles Recently, members of our Legacy family were presented with some brand-new bikes, courtesy of Defence Health. These bikes were lovingly built by soldiers at Enoggera Barracks in the Soldier Recovery Centre. Thank you to Defence Health and the soldiers who put these bikes together and for bringing big smiles to some well deserving kids! 4 Torch Summer 2020
Ian Receives Limbless Soldier's Bursary We are proud to grant the Limbless Soldiers Bursary to a special member of our Legacy family each year. This year, Ian was the grateful recipient of an activity table - to use his iPad, magazines and bingo - 2 woollen booties, a special mattress for his bed and physiotherapy support. Legatees Barbara and Russell Carrier, Community Services Officer Megan, clinical nurse manager, Danni and Diversional Therapist,Tracey, helped him unwrap his gifts. Ian said "thank you!". Noosa Triathlon On November 3rd, Team Legacy, swam, cycled and ran for a reason at the Noosa Triathlon Multi Sport Festival. The team of five, consisting of current serving members, veterans and passionate supporters, raised over $10,000 to help the promise live on for our widows, families and children. We'd like to thank everyone for doing their part to "Do More Than Remember". From those who donated to those who cheered the team on all the way to the finish line. Legacy 'Homecoming' Concert a Huge Success Over 330 Sunshine Coast residents enjoyed a special annual Remembrance concert – featuring the highly celebrated Sunshine Coast Concert Band, directed by Ken Chadwick OAM. Special attendees included Buderim MP Brent Mickelberg, Member for Maroochydore, Fiona Simpson and Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson – as well as representatives from Army, Airforce and Navy who provided an official open and military march. Over $8,000 was raised at the event which will go towards the continued support of families and children in the Sunshine Coast region. A huge thanks to the dedicated Sunshine Coast Legatees and staff who have rallied together to host this event for 16 years now! The Sunshine Coast Concert Band have been wonderful supporters and we thank them so much for their contribution to the event. 6 Torch Summer 2020

Legacy kids learn the ropes at the 2020 Summer Youth Camp! On 6 January, 34 Legacy kids and 7 Youth Leaders boarded the bus to the 2020 Summer Youth Camp. An annual week of fun, team building and personal development for our Legacy kids – and a well-deserved week of respite to single parents. Activities included taking on a high ropes course, obstacle course challenge as well as plenty of down-time to swim and play games. Kind volunteers from 6RAR also visited on one day, running a day full of physical challenges, team building activities and learning important military skills. The week ended with a talent show night that was full of laughs! 8 Torch Summer 2020
Do More Than Remember - Governor's Visit In November 2019, Legacy partnered with the State Library of Queensland (SLQ) to deliver our Remembrance Campaign, “Do More Than Remember”. The SLQ host an incredible, interactive public exhibition at the Anzac Square Memorial Galleries that we were kindly invited to. Some of our Legacy ladies attended the exhibition and were honoured to meet His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland and Mrs de Jersey at the gallery. The galleries are open to the public and detail wartime experiences of Queenslanders. We strongly encourage you to visit, it truly is a remarkable space. Sunshine Coast High Tea - 90 Years A special high tea for Sunshine Coast Legacy widows turning 90 in 2019 was hosted at the Maroochy RSL Club in November!. The ladies had a wonderful time and enjoyed hospitality from Legatees. They were spoilt with a special performance from local crooner, Josh Linnett, who sang a range of Frank Sinatra and Michael Buble songs! Sunshine Coast Backyard Assit Team Strikes Again! Legacy Sunshine Coast was out in force again with local Legatees armed with rakes, wheelbarrows, axes and brush-cutters to transform the backyard of Mrs Jose McInnes, as part of Legacy’s Backyard Assist Program. The Backyard Assist program aims to transform overgrown backyards and gardens for young families or elderly widows of Legacy who are unable to manage this work on their own, turning their outdoor area into a more manageable and accessible space for them to enjoy once more. Jose’s late husband, Flight Lieutenant Loyal Francis McInnes, originally from Nambour, served in WW2 and received the Distinguished Flying Cross. After his passing, Jose was unable to maintain their home’s garden on her own, with large overgrown trees and shrubs preventing safe access.
