Summer Edition Welcome To Our Summer Issue Of Lowdown Welcome to our summer edition of Lowdown and what a summer it’s turning out to be! The UK, and particularly Lincolnshire, has been basking in glorious sunshine for weeks on end and many experts are now predicting this could be the hottest summer on record. There really is no better way to make the most of this weather than on the beautiful Lincolnshire coast, making it a wonderful time to own a holiday home, and when the mercury’s rising, Ingoldmells always comes into its own. As a result, the Parks are bustling this year and we’ve also been gripped by World Cup fever, with huge numbers packing out The Sands Bar and creating an exciting (and sometimes tense!) atmosphere, especially during England’s ups and downs. The whole team here at Laver Leisure are working hard to pull out all the stops this year in terms of our services, facilities and the activities on offer, to really make 2018 a year to remember. In this issue, you can read about the events that have already taken place, as well as what we’ve got coming up for the rest of the year, and some of the new developments that are taking place. We’re always keen to hear your thoughts and welcome you to speak to us directly or use the suggestion boxes and comment cards in each Park office, to tell us what you think, or how we could make things even better. We hope you have a fantastic, memorable summer and look forward to seeing you on the Parks. David Cotterill Laver Leisure Park Manager 2
Laver Lowdown Summer 2018 Easter Colouring Competition Is A Sweet Treat This year’s Easter bonnet, egg painting and colouring competitions were all a huge success with more than 50 children taking part and competing to win a huge range of tasty chocolate eggs. As always it was a fun event that encouraged all the participants to put their creative skills to the test and we were overwhelmed by the response and the quality of the entries, some of which are on display here. Halloween Competition Last year we ran a design your own pumpkin competition and we had lots of fantastic entries! The winner was ten year old Lilly Coe. Who’s got their creative hands ready for this year’s competition?! Four Seasons Is An All-Round Great Option Anyone wanting a contemporary holiday home, complete with a luxury veranda, in a quiet area, that can be used all year round, need look no further than our Four Seasons Holiday Park. The recently opened Park is home to a small collection of stunning two or three-bedroom holiday homes that are ready to move straight into. They’re already selling and are a great option for anyone wanting the freedom to holiday whenever they want, 52 weeks a year. The remaining holiday homes are unlikely to be available for long so anyone wanting further information, or to arrange a viewing, should contact our Sealands office sooner rather than later. WiFi is now available in all Parks, Visit laverleisure.co.uk for more information. 3
A Spring Bank Holiday To Remember Our Spring Bank celebrations are firmly cemented in the Laver Leisure annual calendar as an event that’s not to be missed and yet again it was a fantastic day. Hundreds of holiday home owners and other guests layered on the sun cream and joined us for a day of entertainment which included a beautiful barbeque, cold drinks from The Tankard Bar and a stunning dance performance by the Kesteven Morris Men. Chalkie The Chimp made a special appearance and there were lots of competitions, including name the teddy and guess the number of sweets in the jar. There was also a tombola, raffle and charity auction. As a result of the generosity of everyone that celebrated with us, we raised £1,300 for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice. The charity does an amazing job, often under difficult circumstances, offering care and support to children and young adults with life-shortening and life-threatening conditions, both in their own homes and at their hospice in North Anston near Sheffield. The organisation supports the whole family, giving them the chance to relax, take a break and have fun. We’re delighted to be supporting Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice throughout 2018 and are holding several other fundraising events for them throughout the year. 4
Laver Lowdown Summer 2018 This Year’s Gardening Competition Looks Blooming Marvellous Judging day is fast approaching for this year’s ‘Lavers In Bloom’ competition and the winners will soon be announced. The annual competition is open to everyone, across all our parks, and simply involves creating a colourful, imaginative and eye-catching garden. The competition always means our parks look particularly beautiful at this time of year and the green fingered amongst you already know how good gardening is for the mind, body and soul. This year judging will take place in August and will involve an expert panel including representatives from the highly acclaimed Lyndhurst Garden Centre in Skegness. At the end of the judging process, the best three gardeners will all be rewarded with vouchers to spend at Lyndhurst. New Local Attraction-Jump Warriors A Brand-new attraction has been brought to the area and even better its just a stones throw away from some of our parks. The activity centre is a great place for trampoline lovers of all ages to bounce away some of their energy. You can launch across the trampolines, swing across the ninja run whilst mastering your jump warrior skills. There’s a choice of open bounce session, fitness classes, toddler sessions and parties to choose from. Finally, with their number one priority being that all guests have fun in a safe environment, then you’re sure to have a great time. The new park can be found on Anchor Lane, just down from our Wolds and Golden Sands Parks. 5
Improvements Complete At Promenade Anyone enjoying a stroll around Promenade Park will notice that we’ve made lots of improvements in recent months. Visitors to the park are now greeted by a welcoming new frontage that sits in front of its celebrated beech hut themed offices. There’s also a beautiful new garden and outdoor seating area, complete with memorial benches, which is a wonderful spot to sit and watch the world go by. Finally, following a significant investment, we’ve also just finished upgrading the drainage system, which is immediately having a positive impact throughout the entire park. The Lavers Road Show – Coming To A Site Near You! Following the success of our first ever ‘Lavers Road Show’ at Seaview, we’re now planning to go on tour! The event, which took place at the start of July, was a perfect opportunity to meet and socialise with other guests as well as our team members. There was a delicious barbeque and the strawberries and cream on offer were a huge hit. Several guests also upgraded their holiday homes during the day, after taking advantage of the superb discounts on offer. We’re now planning similar events at Promenade in the coming weeks and another at Golden Sands later this summer. Dates for both events will be confirmed shortly. Fishing Lake The Fishing Lake is open to all Laver Leisure customers. We have even installed a WC facility, so you can make the most of your time casting off. The lake is exclusive to holiday-home owners. A full day session costs £5.00 and a half day is £3.50 and these can be purchased from the Golden Sands’ Park Office or call to pre-book on 01754 872 483. 6
Laver Lowdown Summer 2018 A Gentle Rental Reminder It’s fantastic to see so many owners are successfully renting their holiday homes out and there’s no doubt this summer’s stunning weather is further boosting demand from holidaymakers booking breaks on Lincolnshire’s beautiful coastline. We therefore thought it would be useful to remind owners about their obligations and responsibilities to their guests, which will ensure they enjoy a fantastic holiday and reduce the chances of problems occurring. Our offices are open to supply keys to rental guests seven days a week, from 8am to 4.30pm, and all guests must have a signed and dated letter, stating the park and plot number, before we hand your keys over. Anyone arriving outside these hours must make their own arrangements with the holiday home owner or delay their arrival until the following day. An alternative is to fit a key safe to holiday homes that’s accessed via a combination lock, for guests that arrive late or lose keys. We can supply and fit these for £35.99. Guests must also be made aware that our complimentary out of hours telephone line is strictly for emergencies only, such as power cuts or water failure. For repairs and other general maintenance requirements, we offer lists of recommended plumbers, gasfitters, electricians and locksmiths on the information boards at each park, which owners should familiarise themselves with. In addition to supplying guests with park rules, it’s worth PLEASE EXPLAIN reminding guests about the maximum number of people that your holiday home can accommodate, especially ALL PARK RULES because overcrowding can invalidate your insurance. Guests TO GUESTS should also be supplied with details of how to order new gas bottles, which are charged at £53 between 8am and 4.30pm, or £58 outside these hours. Finally, it’s vitally important to ensure that your gas and electrical safety certificates, as well your insurance policy, are all up to date. If any certificates are out of date, you risk breaking the law and your insurance will be invalid. Anyone requiring further advice about renting out holiday homes can contact our local offices or ask our team members. 7

Laver Lowdown Summer 2018 Freak Weather Sandblasts Ingoldmells After weeks of glorious sunshine, The Beast From The East combining with Storm Emma back in March, to create the UK’s worst weather for several years, certainly seems a long time ago! However, there are still signs of its impact along the Lincolnshire coastline, as a result of the high winds that covered many coastal towns, including Ingoldmells, in a blanket of sand. At the time, the Met Office issued a red warning – its most severe alert and only the third such warning in seven years – as temperatures plunged and snow storms battered the UK. The extreme winds blew tonnes of sand onto the seafront at Ingoldmells, as well as covering paths and roads, and our Triangle Park was particularly affected. It was certainly a freak occurrence and not something we’ve ever experienced before. East Lindsey District Council joined forces with the Environment Agency in the clean-up operation and our maintenance team spent several weeks clearing sand out of our Parks, which was a major task. Thanks to their hard work, disruption was kept to a minimum and all our Parks reopened as planned at the beginning of March for the 2018 season, in contrast to the large number of schools and workplaces that were forced to close. It was particularly nice to have our efforts rewarded and see good numbers of owners shrugging off the weather and still enjoying their holiday homes despite the horrific weather conditions outside. 9
