St. Angela’s College, Sligo, is a fast growing, dynamic third level institution providing a high quality of education and research in the North West. As a College of the National University of Ireland, Galway, students are provided with University-level education, modern campus facilities, small classes and a strong community environment. The Campus is ideally located on the scenic shores of Lough Gill only a few minutes from Sligo town. Applied Science in Nutrition, Food and Business Management is designed to meet the requirements of the food industry nationally and internationally by providing multi-skilled graduates with the ability to help organisations compete in an increasingly competitive global marketplace. Over 4 years, the B. Applied Science in Nutrition, Food and Business Management course seeks to develop competencies in the areas of nutrition, culinary skills, food safety, food quality, new food product development, marketing, management and entrepreneurial thinking. Ultimately, the course seeks to create graduates with the capacity for developing food products to meet the nutritional needs of the health-conscious consumers with dietary restrictions, the elderly and the young. WORK PLACEMENT Year Three of the course incorporates the possibility of a structured 20-week placement nationally or internationally in a variety of food industries and food-related organisations. Students have undertaken work placements in organisations including Ornua (formerly the Irish Dairy Board), Kerry Group, Glanbia, Lakeland Dairies and Boyne Valley to name just a few. It is possible to study abroad and secure placement within the EU as part of the Erasmus programme. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Graduates of the B.Appl.Sc. in Nutrition, Food and Business Management will have attained the knowledge and skills that will enable them to obtain employment in a variety of food and associated industries. Graduates will be equipped with the technical knowledge and skills required to work in a diverse range of careers such as: food production, new product devel- opment, quality control, marketing/ sales, supervision and management, consultancy and research. This food product was developed as part of her final year module Food Innovation and New Product Development where she integrated her learning and preparation for the competition from her Enterprise and Entrepreneurship module.

We are currently working on opening up partnerships with potential Transatlantic Colleges for possible study abroad placements. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES There are opportunities for graduates to be employed by national or international governmental or non-governmental agencies focusing on family and child wellbeing; consumer advocacy; and health promotion. Graduates will have capacity to work with both private and State organisations as food advisors, or community Home Economists. There is also potential to take a commercial pathway and enter into the private business sector in the areas of food; textiles and fashion and interior entrepreneurship. FURTHER STUDY Postgraduate programmes (Masters and Doctoral level) can also be pursued in the areas of Education*; Home Economics; Health Promotion; Food and Nutrition; Health Coaching and Wellbeing; Child Development; Youth and Family Studies; Textiles and Fashion. *Those who wish to pursue teaching careers may progress to the Professional Master of Education at NUI Galway.

COURSE OVERVIEW The Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNSc) – General is a four-year degree offered at St. Angela’s College in conjunction with Sligo University Hospital and the HSE-NW. On successful completion of the course students will be able to present for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) and practice as a Registered General Nurse (R.G.N.). The overall aim of the course is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to become competent analytical and reflective nurses. YOUR COURSE YEAR BY YEAR WORK PLACEMENT A NUMBER OF CORE THEMES ARE COVERED OVER THE FOUR YEARS The first three years are run within the academic year and in- clude a combination of theory modules and practice modules.
