Monday, Jan. 10 8-9:15 a.m. Welcome to Convocation Faculty/Staff & President’s Address Clarion Dr. Vincent Solis & Employee Development Center Convocation Committee Faculty and staff are welcomed back to Brazosport College for the Spring 2022 semester. An overview of the format, content, and goals for the week will be presented. Brazosport College’s new president, Dr. Vincent Solis, will also greet the faculty and staff. Dr. Solis will be the fifth president in Brazosport College’s 53-year history. Dr. Solis is a life-long educator with almost three decades of service in higher education. He earned a Doctor of Education in Bilingual Education, a Master of Science in Psychology, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from Texas A&M University- Kingsville in Kingsville, TX. He previously served as the President of Western Nevada College in Carson City, NV, as well as the Senior Vice President of Academic and Student Services at Laredo College in Laredo, TX. Dr. Solis is not only committed to his professional endeavors in higher education, he has also served his local communities in various service roles and has been honored to share his own experiences and educational journey with a variety of audiences as a keynote speaker. 1
Monday, Jan. 10 9:30-10:45 a.m. Faculty Meeting Faculty Dr. Shelley Diviney CLC.103 (A, B, C, D) 10:45 a.m.-12 p.m. Faculty Assembly Faculty Dr. Arlinda Montiel CLC.103 (A, B, C, D) During this session, the Faculty Assembly will welcome new members in attendance, review and approve minutes from the prior meeting, discuss pending elections, provide updates on key Assembly-led initiatives, reexamine existing priorities and set new priorities, make relevant announcements, and share perceived opportunities for improvement and what’s going well from the perspective of the Assembly membership. 2
Monday, Jan. 10 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Library & Learning Services Open House Faculty/Staff Nancy Whitworth Library Join the Library & Learning Services staff for treats while learning about the services and resources both departments provide to our BC Community. Food will be provided. This is a come-and-go event. 1-2:30 p.m. **Objectives & Alignment Faculty Bryan Brown & Jennifer Poland F.105 This workshop’s focus is on writing modular-level objectives and aligning to course outcomes, activities, learning materials, and assessments. Process is applicable to both on-campus and online course development. 1-2:30 p.m. *Student Worker New-Hire Process All LaTanya Graham & Trina Umadhay, J.D F.102 This workshop is for all supervisors and hiring managers who have hired or plan to hire student workers. The Career and Guidance Center (GCGC) hopes this information will help simplify your life as an employer and provide a better understanding of how student employment works. 2-3:30 p.m. Sweet Treats & Little Eats All Employee Development Center F-Wing Hallway Convocation Committee Enjoy light refreshments to recharge and get an extra boost for the afternoon sessions. 3
Monday, Jan. 10 2:30-4 p.m. *ACE it Coaching Updates-Session 1 Faculty/Staff Sasha Tarrant & ACE it Coaching Team ACE it Coaches This workshop gives an opportunity to learn about new F.102 tools, processes, and practices in the ever-evolving ACE it program. Responding to feedback from coaches and students, ACE it continuously reviews outcomes and recommendations in an effort to improve. This session will involve reminders and refreshers, as well as an introduction to new tools and processes. NOTE: All previously trained faculty and staff ACE it coaches are required to attend one of the two duplicate sessions during workshop week. 2:30-3:45 p.m. CBIT Escape Room Faculty/Staff Center for Business & Industry Training CLC.201 Love a good challenge? Each group will have 60 minutes to solve the puzzles by following a myriad of clues to “Escape the Swamp” using teamwork, time management, good communication, collaboration, utilization of individual skills, cooperation, and sharing resources. Tuesday, Jan. 11 8-9 a.m. **D2L Tool Updates Faculty Angela Elder F.102 Session focus is on D2L updates during the last semester, including the overhaul of the HTML Editor, new look and experience for Discussions, Dropbox, Quizzes, Rubrics, Respond, and LockDown Browser settings. 9-10 a.m. IT News Update Faculty/Staff Ron Parker & Brian Commons F.105 Catch up on the newest and upcoming changes in technology. 10-11 a.m. **BYO Assignments for Assignment Faculty Peer Review F.102 Dr. April Sikorski & Writing Center Do you have an assignment you would like to revise? Do you have an assignment that isn’t getting the results you’d like? Would you like feedback to help make your assignments more clear and easily understood? This workshop will discuss the hallmarks of strong assignments and provide an opportunity for feedback on an assignment of your own. To get the most out of this hands-on workshop, please bring an assignment prompt you use in your class. 6

New this semester: Storyboarding skills. This is a come-and-go event. 10-11:15 a.m. Advisory Committee Meeting Faculty (Invitation Only) F.102 Dr. Shelley Diviney & Dr. Mitchell Seal 11 a.m.-12 p.m. *Life-Saving Skills: How to use an AED Faculty/Staff Chief Chad Leveritt, Lt. Katherine Davis, F.105 Samantha Resecker & Police Department Learn basic CPR for adults and infants, proper use of Automated External Defibrillators (AED), relief of choking methods, and how to stop bleeding. An overview and demonstration of the AED’s mounted in every building throughout the campus will be presented. 1-2 p.m. *ACE it Review & Refresh Faculty/Staff Sasha Tarrant ACE it Coaches Has it been a while since you’ve had ACE it training? Want F.102 a review of how to access information, complete reports and discuss topics with students? This session is for you. Coaches will assist in individualized and group refreshers on all things ACE it. NOTE: This is an optional session beyond the required ACE it Updates. 9
Wednesday, Jan. 12 2-3:30 p.m. Sweet Treats & Little Eats All Employee Development Center F-Wing Hallway Convocation Committee Enjoy light refreshments to recharge and get an extra boost for the afternoon sessions. 2-3:30 p.m. **BC Safe Zone 2.0 Faculty Dr. April Sikorski F.105 During this hands-on workshop, attendees will learn about issues important to the LGBTQIA+ community here in Brazoria County. We will discuss questions of gender identity and sexuality as we work to create safer spaces here at Brazosport College. Attendees will receive a sticker after completing training. 3-4 p.m. *Percussion Basics Faculty/Staff Cesar Jimenez F.102 This session reviews the website objectives outlined in your BUR, as well as the basics of working in Percussion. Tips that can be quickly implemented to help keep your site ADA compliant will be provided. This session ends with an opportunity to ask questions and discuss issues encountered when working within Percussion. 10
Wednesday, Jan. 12 3-5 p.m. Bachelor’s Degree Programs Update Faculty/Staff & Open House J.207 Dr. Rodney Cooper-Sweat, Dr. Grace Itiowe, & Dr. Harold Griffin Join the Bachelor’s of Industrial Management and Bachelor’s of Health Services Management for treats while learning about the services and resources both departments provide to the BC Community. Learn about some of the exciting changes to our accelerated degree programs. Topics to be covered include: what makes the BC baccalaureate programs unique; evidence that accelerated models work; how we’re achieving phenomenal growth rates; future baccalaureate programs; laying the groundwork for a global campus; not requiring an Associate degree for admission into our four-year programs. This session is appropriate for anyone advising students or those who want to know more about what the BC Bachelor’s Degree Programs offer. 11

Strategies represent best practices to help students become well-rounded and active partners in their own education. 9-10:30 a.m. *Business & Purchasing Practices Faculty/Staff/ Cara Green & Angela Claire Procard Holders A focus on procard procedures/purchases/reporting, a F.102 brief Empower overview, travel procedures, purchasing thresholds, and deferred expenditures. 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. *The Math Center Plus You: A Formula for Faculty/Staff Student Success SSC E.200 Rebecca Goins (Math Center/Student Success Center/Student Services) This session will provide staff and faculty an understanding of the services provided by the Math Center. The Math Center will also demonstrate its appointment scheduling system (Tutor Matching Service) and online tutoring platform (GoBoard). A tour of the Math Center will end the session.
