“I don’t know what your destiny will be. Reflecting on the Decade Making History While Breaking Ground In 2010, Massachusetts Fallen Heroes (MFH) was born. In 2016, the memorial was erected. A first of its kind in the country, the memorial marked the beginning of Honoring those Fallen Heroes lost since 9/11. Now bearing the weight of over 300 names, the 50-foot obelisk stands proudly in the heart of the Boston Seaport as a beacon for Gold Star Families, Veterans, and all those seeking to Honor the Fallen. 2 | Massachusetts Fallen Heroes
A Landmark in the Heart of the Seaport Six short years after its inception, MFH achieved the impossible. Reflecting the strength and resilience of the Gold Star Families they Support, the co-founders refused to take no for an answer. Thanks to those men and women that came together with passion and vision in 2010, the memorial’s inaugural dedication was observed in 2016. 10th Anniversary | 3
2020: Adapt & Overcome Throughout the pandemic, MFH has helped provide 68 tractor trailers filled with a total of 68,544 boxes of food; this allowed MFH to distribute over 2 million pounds of food to families in the greater Boston area and assistance during these difficult times, and always strive to fulfill our mission to Honor, Support, and Empower. 4 | Massachusetts Fallen Heroes
Sergeant First Class Eric Michael Emond Center for Excellence Over the past year, our family at MFH has been processing the surreal death of our co-founder, Eric Emond. The tragic loss roused our drive and deepened our grasp of the meaning of sacrifice. Unknowingly, Eric had planned his own memorial. Though he may have physically departed, he left behind a doctrine of respect and tribute. As we celebrate our tenth anniversary, we pay tribute to Eric by establishing another legacy in his Honor. The future of MFH includes a new space to call home: The Sergeant First Class Eric Michael Emond Center For Excellence (ECE). Housing InnoVets Boston, this 5,600 square foot space is the next step in our mission to Support and Empower those we serve. This state of the art haven will be an accelerator, nurturing Veteran and Gold Star entrepreneurs as they move forward in life after loss and/or service. This space will include our first interactive memorial, allowing us to Honor our Fallen with more depth and Gold Star Family participation than ever. 6 | Massachusetts Fallen Heroes
An Interactive Experience for Gold Star Family Members The interactive memorial will promote Gold Star Family engagement in the remembrance of their Fallen Hero more than ever before. Our mission to cultivate a “living memorial” will be achieved by directly involving families in documenting how their Fallen Hero lived and Honoring their memory. The Future of Seaport Square The next phase of the ECE interactive memorial will be moved to its permanent home in Seaport Square in Honor Block overlooking the obelisk. Showcasing Our Supporters in the ECE Your name co-branded alongside ours in the ECE will represent your direct impact on the post-9/11 Gold Star Families and Veterans MFH Supports and Empowers. 10th Anniversary | 7

OUR PROGRAMS The Family First Program The Family First Program, previously referred to as Gold Star Gatherings, is the lifeblood of MFH. With at least 24 exclusive events held per year, each brings together post-9/11 Gold Star Families from across the Commonwealth. From movie nights, bowling, concert outings, camping trips, and ski weekends, there is something for everyone. This program is always expanding and partnering with sponsors and supporters to bring the best experiences to our beloved Gold Star Families. Gold Star Family Support MFH supports post-9/11 Gold Star Families in many ways, but the most treasured and effective approach is by creating connections. We believe in cultivating a safe, fun environment in which families can reflect on their shared experience and realize they are not alone. Annual Gold Star Holiday Dinner Each December the MFH Gold Star Family community gathers for the holidays to celebrate and reflect on the absence of their Fallen Hero with each other. Families break bread together and children under 18 receive gifts. This event will be held at the American Heritage Museum in December 2020. 10 | Massachusetts Fallen Heroes

“This year holds a very different feeling, one of excitement, anticipation, and hope for what’s to come in the future. I am stronger and feel a massive sense of pride representing an organization my husband helped create and would like to be a sense of hope for others who are walking, and will walk, this terrible journey of losing part of their family.” — G O L D S TA R W I F E A L L I E E M O N D 20 Photo by Hacin + Associates
