Welcome to our new Spring Leisure Days brochure for 2018.
It is lovely now the evenings are now getting lighter. Our thoughts turn to warmer
weather, spring flowers and fresh new places and an exciting selection of all these
things will be found in the following pages.
We have enhanced our day excursion programme to bring a selection of new ideas, if
you are looking for something different, alongside the best of our established venues,
retained by popular demand – our good old favourites as we call them that never fail to
get fully booked very early on – make sure you reserve your seats! From the seaside to
stately homes, gardens and gardening shows to city centre shopping and from scenic
boat trips to an evening at the darts, our brochure has something for everyone.
We have many pick up locations in the Wincanton and Yeovil areas, these are
detailed on the back cover.
Don’t forget our group discounts. For organisers of groups of 10 or more, please contact
us for our competitive group discounts.
Please remember to book early to guarantee a place on your chosen excursion. Seats
are allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis and if you prefer a particular seat
location then you are advised not to wait too long to book. Any day trip that includes a
theatre performance should be booked early to secure a theatre ticket.

Thursday 15th March The Cheltenham Festival
The Cheltenham Festival is the highlight of the National Hunt horse racing season. The
Festival shows everything that is great about Jump racing whilst delivering an unbelievable
occasion as the finest horses, jockeys, owners and trainers battle it out for the highest racing
honours, their reputations and prize money! We have tickets in the Tattersalls Enclosure

Saturday 17th March Cilla @ The Bristol Hippodrome

Thursday 22nd March Spring at Basildon Park
The Basildon Park that you see today is a re-creation and restoration of the 18th century
mansion brought back to life in the 1950’s as the country home of Lord and Lady Iliffe. Inspired
by the original designs of the architect John Carr the Iliffes collected important 18th and 19th
century paintings and antiques especially for the interiors of Basildon Park. Walk through the
parkland and explore the gardens. Basildon Park featured as Grantham House, the Crawley

We visit Wimborne Market one of the largest open and covered markets in the south. You'll find
almost anything here from local produce including butchers, bakers, fruiterers, fishmongers and
cheesemakers, to designer jewellery, antiques, collectables, bric-a-brac and memorabilia. Then, it is
onto nearby Bournemouth - a vibrant seaside town that has everything you could wish for. There

We head into Central London, where after a short break for lunch we meet our Blue Badge guide
for a part walking part coach tour where we will see visible reminders of our postal history. The
tour will finish at the Postal Museum where you can then enjoy an incredible collection spanning

Travel back in time as we steam through the Somerset countryside from Bishops Lydeard,

Tuesday 10th April Abergavenny Market
Located right in the heart of the town, both figuratively and literally, Abergavenny market has long
been the focus of trade through the town. Take a stroll through the market and you’ll find

find a large number of townsfolk hunting for a bargain! Abergavenny is also known for its

Thursday 12th April Bath & Dyrham Park
We spend the morning at leisure in the popular historic city of Bath before
making our way to the nearby National Trust property of Dyrham Park. There

Saturday 14th April Cardiff or RHS Cardiff Spring Flower Show
Cardiff is the Capital of Wales and is a city proud of its culture,

Sunday 22nd April Swanage and the Swanage Railway
The Swanage Railway is a heritage steam railway that runs through the Isle of
Purbeck. At six miles long the railway follows the route of the old Purbeck branch line
which was closed in 1972. The trip takes you through the beautiful Purbeck
countryside and includes stunning views of the remains of William the Conqueror's
Corfe Castle. Then onto Swanage, a traditional Victorian seaside town set at the heart
of Purbeck and built around a beautiful bay sheltered from the north by Ballard Down

Saturday 28th April Bourton-on-the-Water & Snowshill Manor & Garden
We spend some time at leisure in the pleasant Cotswold town of Bourton-on-the-
Water before we make our way to the nearby National Trust property Snowshill
Manor. Snowshill is a Cotswold manor house filled with an eclectic collection
amassed over a lifetime by Charles Wade. The collection of over 20,000 items
includes things as diverse as Samurai armour, musical instruments, toys and clocks.
Wade himself lived in the neighbouring Priest’s House, devoting the manor to his
collection. The Manor nestles in an intimate Arts and Crafts style terraced garden
with hidden

Sunday 29th April Beckonscot Model Village & River Cruise
We start the day with a relaxing 2 1/2 hour cruise with French Brothers from Windsor during
which you will be served a delicious Ploughmans lunch. We then re-join the coach and head
off to spend the afternoon at the worlds oldest model village at Beckonscot. Become a giant in
a miniature world, and wonder at the buildings portraying rural England as it was in the 1930's.
Two of the French Brothers steam boats are also reproduced, adding yet more authenticity to

Saturday 5th May Lymington Charter Market & Christchurch
The beautiful Georgian market town of Lymington is situated on the southern edge of the
New Forest. There are a number of interesting independent shops including some designer
boutiques and on Saturdays a market is held in the High Street featuring everything from farm
produce to bric-a-brac. At the top of the High Street is the Parish Church, St Thomas Church
(circa 1250), from the bottom of the High Street a cobblestone road leads down to the Old
Town Quay, still used as a base by commercial fishing boats. We then continue to
Christchurch - its unique location on the coming together of the rivers Stour and Avon and the

We make our way to the Warner’s Sinah Warren complex on Hayling Island, in time for a

Monday 7th May Brixham
Brixham is built around the central harbour area, which remains the lifeblood of this quaint
historic town. Heritage trawlers jostle for space with dayboats heading out to sea for the
day’s catch, bringing it home daily to Brixham’s famous Fish Market. Vibrant fishermen's
cottages gaze out across the port and the fishing trawlers below. Try the fish and chips made
with freshly caught fish - a real treat! A picturesque stroll along the waterfront past the Fish
Market takes you to Brixham Battery Heritage Centre, on the site of the best-preserved
Emergency Battery built along

Wednesday 9th May Exeter Canal Cruise
We make our way to Exeter City Centre for a morning at leisure. Then it is to the Quay side
where we sail the oldest working shipping canal in Europe! Our early afternoon trip will sail
through eight miles of man made waterway and make use of two manually operated locks at Turf
Locks and Double Locks. Including a trip under the M5 Motorway Bridge the boat will also cause
the main Exeter to Dawlish road to come to a halt as the Countess Weir Swing Bridge is opened to
allow our passage through. Our canal

The small town of Lynton stands high above its sister village of Lynmouth, a
quaint nostalgic harbour town. Today we will disembark the coach at Lynton and

charge to pay) and wonder at the stunning views as you travel to the
picturesque harbour of Lynmouth. Both CS Lewis and JM Barrie found

Friday 18th May The Lakeside Night of Champions @ Lakeside Country Club, Frimley Green
Lakeside is again proud to host top darts stars as the popular "Night of
Champions" event returns. World number one Michael van Gerwen will look
to defend another title when he headlines a field of top quality arrow aces.
Joining this Dutch sensation will be multiple major winner James Wade,
three-time Lakeside World Champion Martin Adams, three former Lakeside

Saturday 26th May Poppies in Portsmouth
We visit Fort Nelson - one of five Palmerston Forts built on the summit of Portsdown Hill
overlooking the Dockyard to guard it from French attack. From April to June 2018 a
poignant sculpture of thousands of individual ceramic poppies will spill over the forts
walls. These are some of the poppies that created such a dramatic element at the Tower
of London in the autumn of 2014. We then head to Southwick an unusual village of
thatched cottages occupied entirely by tenants of the manor in the way of the middle
ages. The manor and village were requisitioned during WWII and the plans for D-Day were
drawn up here by Generals Eisenhower and Montgomery. After a short stop at Gunwharf
Quay for free time for lunch, we take to the water for a sailor’s eye view of the Historic
Dockyard and the warships of the modern Royal Navy on a 45 minute Ships in Port
Pick Up Harbour tour. To round off our day we visit the rather handsome

We head to Poole Quay and take to the water for a trip to Swanage and back. Enjoy
huge panoramas of sky, sea, sand and the vast, layered cliffs of the eastern tip of
the Jurassic coast. We take an atmospheric route out of the great harbour past
prosperous Sandbanks and picturesque Brownsea. You will see the Isle of Purbeck
and on its shores the sandy beaches of Studland Bay; followed by Old Harry’s Rock,
broken off from nearby cliffs of sedimentary rock and named after Poole’s most
notorious pirate. To the west and south you'll see the stirring sight of the English
