Page 12 Volume 13, Issue 14 Breakout Star of the Week “Honoring Student-Athletes Preparing For Future Success” Grace Godwin Providence Day School junior basketball and soccer player Grace Godwin has been named the Karsey Glass Breakout Star of the Week. The daughter of Jay and Christy Godwin plays forward in basketball and goalie in soccer. With basketball season in full force now, Grace is helping the Chargers on defense focusing on the opponents best players and also working to pull down rebounds and help with the motion of the offense. As a freshman, Grace was part of the state championship team in basketball. In soccer she has been to the state champion- ship twice where the Chargers finished as runnerup. In school, Grace has been a central figure in starting a Bible Club. “We used to have a Young Life Bible study at our school, but they were unable to continue that. Many of my friends participated in that and then didn’t have a way to study the Bible anymore. I really enjoyed the Bible study I was doing at church and felt like I should bring it to school, so I got permission from our faculty leaders and started in September 2018. I created a booklet to help guide them through the book of John in the New Testament. I did the reading each week and prepared to lead the discussion.” Inside the classroom, Grace has maintained a 4.0 grade point average. She is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and serves in the TRI-M Music Honor Society, National Honor Society and Chinese Honor Society. Congratulations to Grace Godwin for being named the Karsey Glass Breakout Star of the Week.
