Feature GOING BEYOND SAFETY PSA Singapore Terminals introduces ‘Take 5+’ to ensure a more holistic approach towards workplace safety & health PSA Singapore Terminals (ST) kicked off the New Year with its annual Safety Week Launch as PSA’s staff, management, unions, contractors and partners rallied to reinforce their commitment to safety on 15 January 2015. PSA ST aims to dive deeper this year, to look beyond safety and focus on the health & well- being of its staff and stakeholders. ‘Take 5+’ was introduced as a simple tool to remind all port workers and users to not just be safe, but healthy too. TAKE 5 & TAKE 5 PLUS 6CMGŏ25#56ŏURGTUQPCNJC\CTFKFGPVKſECVKQP tool was initiated in 2014 to highlight the importance of risk assessment in ensuring workplace safety. However, recognising that both a safe environment and a healthy workforce are critical ingredients to CRTQFWEVKXGCPFGHſEKGPVQTICPKUCVKQPŎ6CMG ŏ GZVGPFU KVU EQXGTCIG VQ KPENWFG VJG KFGPVKſECVKQP and addressing of personal health issues and hazards. Here’s what our winners had to say... UBTS Management (UBTS) UBTS is one of the companies commended for its outstanding safety performance in 2014. Beyond having an injury-free record and a drop in accident rates, UBTS went the extra mile to conduct walkabouts at work sites and dormitories to ensure safety measures are adhered to. UBTS has also been a valuable supporter of safety promotion campaigns and an active partner of safety initiatives in PSA. Mr Gunalan s/o Perumal, Head of Seaport Operations, UBTS Management: “In UBTS, we expect our directors and managers to take the leadership role and ensure every aspect of their businesses are actively maintaining safety standards.” Ms Joyce Lee receiving the award on behalf of UBTS at the Safety Launch 2015 Mr Wong Dow Chun, Container Equipment Specialist (CES) Mr Wong Dow Chun is a PSA CES who has kept his records clean with no safety infringement for the past two years. He has been dedicated to keeping his workplace injury-free in 2014 and actively participates in Tanjong Pagar Terminal’s engagement programmes, such as focus group discussions and staff dialogues which aim to promote safety in the port. Mr Wong Dow Chun: “I feel appreciated and honoured to be recognised for my safety practices. To me, practising safety is just like a good habit that we all should keep at work. If in doubt, just follow the Take 5 safety messages; you won’t go wrong.” 10
