Mondragó Natural Park balearsnatura.com › Cala d’Or › Anyone who visits this holiday village with its narrow, crooked streets and bright, white Ibiza- style houses understands immediately why it is called the “golden cove“. And if you are looking for idyllic beaches, you’ll find quite a few in the surrounding areas: Cala Egos, Cala Serena or Cala Mondragó, to name but a few of the popular nearby beaches where you can sunbathe, snorkel or dive. Santanyí The centric Plaça Major is the place where the market is held every Wednesday and Saturday. But Santanyí offers more than this. You can visit the church of Sant Andreu, the old town gate Sa Porta Murada, its inviting bars and restaurants or lovely galleries and boutiques. ‹ BACK

Ses Salines This village and the surrounding area is renowned for the production of sea salt. Beside the salt mounds, you’ll also find large natural salt ponds from which this “white gold” is extracted at the end of the summer. The solid salt layer is harvested manually and is marketed as “Flor de Sal”. If you want to see how this region of Mallorca grows and blooms, we recommend a visit to Botanicactus. On this 10.000 sqm area you’ll find an impressive variety of cacti and plants, both endemic and species from all over the world, which are grown and cultivated with lots of love. In some areas of the beach, nudism is al- lowed. The turquoise sea and the dunes of white, fine sand are truly impressive. Cala Pi This picturesque, fjord-like cove is ideal to stop for a quick swim or just to relax. Llucmajor Market day is every Wednesday and Friday in the centre of the village. Also worth a visit: the old town hall and the 18th C. church of Sant Miquel. ‹ BACK
Randa Mount Randa has three sanctuaries. The wonder- ful panoramic views from the highest sanctuary, “Santuari de Nostra Senyora de Cura”, are worth the effort of ascending the 3 km winding road that leads to the summit. The Mallorcan philosopher and theologian Ramón Llull lived and worked on Mount Randa for some ten years. It was here that he learned Arabic and founded an Arabic and Latin school for the education of missionaries. Montuïri One of Mallorca’s oldest villages; where the houses are clustered together on the hillside. One of the most characteristic parts of Montuïri is the so called windmill quarter, Es Molinar, which is well worth a visit. Now let’s take the Ma-15 highway towards Manacor. ‹ BACK

Even so, Valldemossa still retains its unique atmosphere and is a must for culture, history and music lovers. The highlight: the former Carthusian monastery “Cartuja de Valldemossa”, where composer Frédéric Chopin and writer George Sand spent their legendary, cold “Winter in Mallorca” in the 19th C. Allegedly, Chopin was inspired by the bad weather when he created his famous Raindrop Prelude. You can still visit the cell where both artists stayed, as well as the charterhouse gardens. Valldemossa also has numerous shops, cafés and restaurants. Its specialty: the typical Coca de patata, which is said to be the best on the island. Deià Deià Deià is an artists’ village renowned for its selection of tiny shops, fantastic cuisine and charming hotels. Its picturesque atmosphere still attracts the presence of many celebrities. An excursion up the footpath to the church, situated high above the village, is well worth the effort; the panoramic views are fantastic. In summer we recommend a visit to its small cove for a refreshing dip – and a cool drink in the local bar. Let’s continue along the Ma-10, winding coastal road and head for Sóller. Tramuntana mountains for over 100 years. Formerly, the region of Sóller was also called the golden valley, not due to its high-quality citrus fruits, but for its numerous olive groves and the olive oil. A proof of the former wealth of its citizens is the magnificent architecture of their houses. Port de Sóller A trip on the historic tram to the Port de Sóller. The numerous restaurants and cafés envelop visitors in the hustle and bustle of the port and the boulevard. Santa Maria Santa Maria has become one of the major reference points for wine lovers in Mallorca due to its vineyards, variety and quality of its wineries; ranging from large wineries such as Macià Batle to smaller making organic wines using PGI Mallorca or Denomination of Origin Binissalem local varieties and offering tours of their facilities ‹ BACK

VIDEO Palma Palma de Mallorca Once again we start our tour in the capital. The city of “Palmeria” was founded by the Romans in the year 122 B.C. Palma is a modern metropolis full of tradition, culture and architecture. The Mediterra- nean atmosphere is present wherever you go. Baluard del Príncep, the eastern end of the city wall. From here you have wonderful views over the port and bay of Palma de Mallorca. A stroll through one of the most beautiful and best preserved historic city centres of Europe takes you through narrow streets and past picturesque pati- os. Some of them are accessible; others are hidden ‹ BACK
behind impressive iron gates. The Town Hall of Palma offers guided tours through the patios of the city, where you can see up to 60 patios. Numer- ous buildings from the early 20th C. are modernist Art Nouveau buildings, and in many places you will recognize the Catalonian Art Nouveau style of Gaudí, its most famous representative, with sophisticated patterns, round shapes and artworks made of stone, wrought iron, tiles, ceramic and glass. ‹ BACK
Palma’s Cathedral La Seu is also marked by Gaudí’s style. Especially the extraordinary altar baldachin is a real eye-catcher. Also fascinating: the opulent ceramic art work of the Mallorcan painter Miquel Barceló at the side chapel, inaugurated in 2007. However, Palma de Mallorca also captivates for its amazing programme of concerts, dance perfor- mances and movie screenings, not to mention that it has the greatest concentration of art galleries in Spain, complemented by modern art museums. Take your time to browse the shops in the Balearic capital. In the narrow streets and ample boule- vards you’ll find numerous boutiques and shops, Gaudí - Catedral catedraldemallorca.org › ‹ BACK
which cater to all tastes. One of the most bustling places of Palma, espe- cially in the evening, is the Llotja district, named after what once was the headquarters of the Merchants’ Association. Many restaurants, cafés, boutiques and art galler- ies have established here. Another great place to stroll or rest is the “Paseo del Borne”, Palma’s grand boulevard. Southwest Now we continue towards the southwest of the island: When you leave Palma take the Ma-1 motor- way and head for Andratx. Puerto Portals This is one of the most luxurious marinas of Mal- lorca, with many high-end shops, gourmet restau- rants, bars and wonderful views of fancy yachts and even fancier people. If this is still not stylish enough for you, then let’s continue on to the luxury marina of Port Adriano. www.puertoportals.com › ‹ BACK
Port Adriano / Port de Andratx This marina was designed by the legendary Philippe Starck and inaugurated in 2012. The next stop on our luxury marina tour could be Port d’Andratx. Here people follow the motto: “To see and to be seen”. www.portadriano.com › You will find expensive restaurants but also cosy bars to enjoy the perfect sunset with fantastic views of the boats and yachts. ‹ BACK
Es Capdellà On your tour through the southwest of the island you will not be far away from the mountains. Befo- re arriving at Andratx you could take a detour to Es Capdellà and then to the village of Galilea situated 402 m above sea level. At the end of the winding road you will be rewarded with stunning views of the sea and the mountains. TI P SANT ELM | SA DRAGONERA Ferry Excursion Cruceros Margarita www.crucerosmargarita.com › Open February - October: Tickets on board Sant Elm And from Port d’Andratx it is worth taking another detour to Sant Elm. The southwesternmost part of the island still offers an unspoilt atmosphere, cosy bars and restaurants and a lot of nature. There are ‹ BACK
daily boat trips to the island of Sa Dragonera situa- ted in front of the coastline. The shape of this 300 sq.m. island, in the form of a dragon, is the origin of its name. Dragonera is the habitat of numerous species of lizards and is also a nature reserve; hen- ce access to the island is limited. However if you don’t like lizards, you can enjoy the sunset over Sa Dragonera from one of the restaurant terraces in Sant Elm. Sa Dragonera VIDEO ‹ BACK
