Sign-Up Parties and Events For Children 1. Gilbert Babysitting on the night of FANfare For Children Donated by: Dan and Judy Gilbert Why should parents have all the fun? (Said no one, ever, but stick with us.) While you’re enjoying the festivities of FANfare 2019, your kids can spend the evening with friends at the home of second grader Sarah Gilbert, fifth grader John Gilbert, and their parents, Dan and Judy. 9. Pottery with the Kinder Teachers! For Children Donated by: Kindergarten Teachers: Mrs. Martinez, Mrs. Castillo and Mrs. Clark Join Kindergarten teachers, Mrs. Martinez, Mrs. Castillo and Mrs. Clark for a special afternoon of pottery painting and pizza on Thursday, May 9th, 2019. A spot for creating individual pottery will be waiting for each lucky student. Kinders will create one-of-a-kind pottery pieces using bright colors, polka dots, and stripes. We will enjoy building, cooking and eating an individual pizza creation with our special group. Pottery treasures and an additional memento will be delivered to our friends before the end of the school year. Students will be met by and walked over to the art room after school by our Kinder teachers. This event is for current Kindergarteners only, please. Kayaking at Elkhorn Slough with Mr. Rickert For Children Donated by: Third Grade Teacher Wayne Rickert and the Barrows and Frampton Families Spend a delightful morning touring Monterey Bay’s famous Elkhorn Slough with experienced kayaker (and Ormondale third grade teacher!) Wayne Rickert. Paddle with sea otters, seals, sea lions, and a variety of shorebirds in this peaceful tidal estuary with its stunning diversity of marine life. The provided sit-on-top double kayaks require no prior experience - only comfort with small boats. Kids ages 5-12 are welcome and need to be paired in a double kayak with an adult. (These are the rules of our outfitter, Monterey Bay Kayaks.) Date/Time: Sunday, June 2nd at 9:00 am - 1:00 pm. (Arrive at Monterey Bay Kayaks a little before 9:00 am.) Did you know that geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices? Geocachers navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. Your Geocache team leaders will transport you to a TOP SECRET destination where we will start the hunt! You will get dusty and hungry but, no fear, there will be lunch and other treats. 21. Cats Against Dogs! For Children Donated by: Karyn Ellis Give your child a chance to tour the Pets in Need facility in Redwood City, play some fun animal games and then smother themselves in dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. This party will be held at Pets in Need in Redwood City, an animal shelter that rescues cats and dogs from other public shelters where they’re short on space or funding. We will drive your child to and from the shelter and provide a light snack. Kirstin can match the face painting to the theme of your party. Maybe you will create a wild kingdom full of lions tigers and bears? Or a world of super heroes with Spider-Man or Wonder Woman. Perhaps even a fantasy world full of fairies, princesses and butterflies? This offering is perfect for kids of any age. (Facepainting for a 2 hour duration only - Kirstin will come to you). Kids’ Outdoor Nature Adventure at Silly Dance Farm For Children Donated by: Anne Fazioli-Khiari & Gianna Fazioli, Marjel Scheuer Kids’ Outdoor Nature Event - Edible Creations, Nature Hike & More Outdoor Fun at Silly Dance Farm! Kids, get ready to enjoy a glorious afternoon outdoors! This is a 3-hour event packed with kid-friendly, hands-on, outdoor activities including making artisanal gifts (such as goat cheese with edible flowers, flower bouquets), food demos, harvesting fruit and veggies for smoothies and juices, taking a nature walk led by a child environmental education specialist (Gianna Fazioli) and much more! The afternoon will start the serenity of a beautiful property on top of a hill at the Fazioli-Khiari residence (AKA Silly Dance Farm) where majestic oak trees and colorful gardens will surround you. Your hosts will guide you through a series of outdoor activities, and each child will be able to take home their creations. The hosts will lead you on an educational nature walk through the lesser-known trails of Portola Valley (Larry Lane, Herb Dengler & Joan Targ Trails). Come to our event at 1pm, ready to work in the garden, walk a local trail and enjoy a most delightful afternoon. We will spend about 3 hours exploring the room through activities and projects of your choice. The Makerspace has much to offer: 3D printing, greeting card designing, green screen photo fun, sewing, robots and much, much more. Snacks will be provided. Family Sailing For Families (Adults & Children) Donated by: Kirstin and Mark Dahm Enjoy a few hours of REAL sailing on San Francisco Bay on board the St Francis Yacht Club fleet of J/22 boats with experienced St FYC Members & Racers who want to extend the fun of sailing to families. Our offer is to take a family of three (3) on a J/22 to learn to sail and return to the StFYC Clubhouse for refreshments and sailing fellowship. The plan: Have a chalk talk with the pros, take out 4-6 J/22s, sail for an hour or two (weather/conditions dependent) as a flotilla on the Bay and return to the clubhouse. No experience necessary. All you need to do is bring your foul weather gear (warm waterproof clothes), a change of clothes and meet us at the St. Francis Yacht Club (Marina Green/Crissy Field, San Francisco, CA). This event includes professional instruction along with post-sailing drinks and snacks for 4-6 families at St. Francis Yacht Club. Team Parents will learn how to make watermelon cocktails and a spicy Thai watermelon soup. Team Kids will make a watermelon Greek salad and icy desserts. All will eat the lunch together after cooking and you will go home with a new specialty cocktail and go-to meal! The tour is lead by a volunteer docent naturalist. You and your child will see the northern elephant seals in their natural habitat inside the Año Nuevo Coast Natural Preserve. Año Nuevo docents go through extensive training and are highly knowledgeable in the natural and cultural history of the park. Note that Elephant seal activities and population counts can vary widely through the guided walk season. On Saturday, June 15 from 3-5pm, you and your one child will lounge in a private pool in Portola Valley munching on pizza, snacks and drinks. One ticket includes one parent and one child. If you want to include siblings, you must buy another ticket. This party is not a drop-off so please plan to stay with your kiddo! Lifeguards will also be on hand to ensure safety. 30 tickets are available (each ticket is for one child and one adult) for fall 2019 4th-5th graders.
