EDITOR’S LETTER Fit, Fearless & Fun I COSMO f one more person tells me about the mood-enhancing benefits of exercise, Exclusive I might just throw a dumbbell at them. My father is the worst: he usually calls on a Sunday after his 6am 60km cycle session. I’m the girl who packs a gym bag in the morning, only to leave it under my desk in favour of after-work burgers. I recall the time I got roped into running a half-marathon. (It was a work thing.) Bucket-list essential, they said. You’ll feel amazing, they said. p34 Truthfully, I didn’t – I spent that night massaging my legs in a hot bath, weeping away my crippling cramps. What makes me happy are all the fun things that come along with the fit life. I take great pleasure in incorporating athleisure into my workwear (yes to sweat pants and SPORTS BRA R499 AND heels!) and shopping for colourful LEGGINGS R848, REEBOK sneaks to up my shoe game. I’m a sucker for the latest health fads, be it experimenting with home-made poke bowls or trying out a new activated-charcoal tonic. I can’t resist a nutrient- rich hair masque or vitamin-boosting serum, and I relish the quiet window of my three-minute daily meditation with Headspace. (Side note: this app has been beyond amazing for my mental health.) That’s why, in this issue, we’ve packed our pages with feel-good things so you can live a fit, fearless, fun life. If, like me, you’re a self- confessed lazy girl, my advice is to look at fitness holistically. (Take notes, dad.) I opened for him during his South African tour and it was a beautiful experience. And my #WCW is: Right now, K Naomi. She shares a lot of inspirational content on social media – especially about self-love – and I really love that about her. My happy place: My couch, at home in Johannesburg. My life mantra: ‘Life is what you make of it.’ Fave Insta account: @theshaderoom – I don’t condone it, but I’m obsessed with gossip. My guilty pleasure: Fried chicken! My style in three words: Grunge, boho, lazy. The item of clothing I can’t live without: Black stockings. I wear them with everything. My go-to makeup look: Highlighted brows and standout lashes. Fave drinks spot: Hudsons in Parkhurst. It’s where we always go to debrief after a show, or to have a bit of fun if we’ve been working hard. What I’m most looking forward to in spring/summer: I’ve been working hard at the gym, so I’m excited to experiment more with seasonal fashion. My favourite type of training: Cardio. I find weight training really, really horrible. I especially enjoy cardio outside of the gym, so my trainer and I will usually take a power walk outside. She makes me walk and talk, which P H OTO G R A P H Y E L I Z A B E T H D O N N E L L C O M P I L E D BY L I S A K ATZ helps to synchronise my breathing and voice. It really helps with my work. The best advice I’ve ever got: ‘You can’t change someone, you can only change yourself.’ The artist I admire: SZA. She’s moulded her craft and grown as an artist. Performing feels like: Real life. It’s all I want to do – it allows me to express myself. What I look for in a partner: Humility and attraction. They must also be funny and be able to crack a joke. ■
