To the fullest extent permitted by law, I release, waive, forever discharge and covenant not to sue the ABC or any of the event-giving clubs and each of the foregoing’s respective administrators, members, officers, directors, employees, volunteers, sponsors, vendors, contractors, medical services providers, judges, superintendents or event secretary, and agents, (the “Releasees”) from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions and causes of action whatsoever arising out of or related to any loss, damage, illness, or injury, including death, that may be sustained by me or by others who come into contact with me, whether caused by the negligence of the Releasees, other entities or individuals, or otherwise as a result of, or related to, my decision to attend ABC events. The following COVID-19 Operating Guidelines are subject to change as conditions and requirements are modified, altered, amended or eliminated by local, state and other authorized officials or authorities. As a condition of my being allowed to attend ABC events, I will fully comply with: (i) any health and safety protocols and mitigation measures implemented by ABC; and (ii) all local, state and federal requirements in effect during ABC events, related to COVID-19. UNDERSTANDING CARRIER STATE & HOW TO BREED BETTER DOGS by Dr. Carmen Battaglia Carmen was given his first dog by his grandfather when he was five years old. That was the beginning of a lifelong fascination with all aspects of dog behavior, breeding, training and showing. He has personally bred and finished several Champions, Select Dogs, Futurity and Maturity winners. Today, he is considered an expert as well as a highly respected AKC judge of more than 40 breeds. By education, (holding the Masters and Doctorate from Florida State University), he is a researcher, lecturer and author. His articles have appeared in the “AKC Gazette”, “Dog World”, “Dog News”, “Canadian Shepherd Journal”, “South African Dog Magazine” as well as dog publications in Australia and Ireland. Being very active in the dog world, Dr. Battaglia is a Director of the American Kennel Club and has served as Chairman of such important committees as: National Genetics Committee (German Shepherd Dog Club of America), the American Kennel Club Committee for the Future, the Operations and Planning Committee, as well as the Health and Education Delegates Committee. The AKC called upon his expertise in genetics to create and develop their DNA program. He is also a much-sought-after speaker on this topic for television and radio talk shows. Author of several different books on dog breeding, Dr. Battaglia has gained worldwide recognition, most notably for the program he developed - “Understanding Carriers & Breeding Better Dogs”. Popular demand has prompted the creation of a seminar for dog clubs which mirrors his book and a video of this method which has been presented across the country and considered an imperative foundation to any successful breeding program. Attention Owners/Exhibitors of Foreign Registered Dogs If you are the owner/exhibitor of a dog registered with a foreign registry (not yet dual registered with AKC) please review the eligibility requirements in The Rules Applying to Dog Shows, chapter 11 section 1. The dog show rules are posted on the AKC Web site at http://images.akc.org/pdf/rulebooks/RREGS3.pdf. Most important to note are the following: 1. Dogs must be individually registered with the American Kennel Club by the day of the event to be eligible for exhibit in the Bred by Exhibitor class. 2. Dogs are eligible to compete in AKC events using the foreign registration for a period of 30 days. That 30-day period begins with the date of first exhibit, regardless of whether the dog earned any points or awards. To continue to compete in AKC events beyond the initial 30-day period the dog must be either individually AKC registered or by the date of the event have been granted an extension to exhibit using the foreign registration. The owner or agent can request an extension using the form found on the AKC Web site at http://images.akc.org/pdf/extenap.pdf. If you have questions or need assistance with registration or obtaining an extension, please contact the AKC Special Services Department at: awards@akc.org or (919) 233-9767 (followed by selecting option 4). Ramps can be used in emergency situations to judge any breed. In an emergency situation, where use of a ramp is not indicated in the premium list, an exhibitor has the option of withdrawing their entry and receiving a refund. For the judging of juniors the ramp may be used at the discretion of the judge for the ramp optional breeds. 12 - American Boxer Club, Inc. - September 18 - 24, 2021
