CLAUDIA IDZIK Hey folks! My name is Claudia, I'm a Master of Arts Student in Psychology. In my undergrad at Guelph, I sat on the university's MA, Psychology Senate for four years, and was re-elected each term. Some achievements in my four-year term in the Senate include voting in a new Neuroscience major, implementing a fall reading week, and advocating for innovative and accessible programs. I served on Senate committees identical to those at Ryerson, such as the Committee on Student Petitions, Honours and Awards Committee, and the Senate Committee on Quality Assurance. Similarly, I have sat on various lower-level curriculum committees to assess the feasibility of courses and program schedules. As a Senator, I will ensure that the Research Ethics Board allows for streamlined creative and innovative research while protecting research participants. Through committee work, I will advocate for graduate academic funding to increase with the cost-of-living index, as many internal funding sources have stayed stagnant for decades. It is impossible for graduate students to live in Toronto on basic funding packages. Finally, I will ensure all changes to programs, policies, and terms have had input from diverse populations and don't pose barriers to underrepresented groups or those with accessibility needs. CHRISTOPHER RANDALL I have studied at Ryerson University since Fall 2017- and since then I have completed an undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree, and am MASc Environmental Applied currently completing my MASc within the Yeates School of Graduate Science and Management Studies. More recently I have helped the Graduate Students' Union with their referendum and currently sit on the EnSciMan Graduate Council. Through my involvement in the Ryerson Community across the program, Faculty, and university-wide level, I have the experience and expertise to give a well-rounded view on topics relating to undergraduate and graduate academic decisions. I have the governance experience to be an active member within the Senate and want to advocate for student well-being, prioritizing student mental health and the role played by academics. I have the experience required to effectively do this job, to represent graduate students from within the Senate. I am happy to answer any of your questions; please feel more than welcome to contact me at c1randall@ryerson.ca.
AMIR (KAMRAN) SOLTANZADEH From the beginning of my academic career, I have had a keen interest in sparking change amongst my peers. Being presented with the MSc. Science Management opportunity to join Ryerson University's Senate brings me immense pride and honour. Giving back to my community is a keystone trait for me and as a member of the Senate, I pledge to represent our students' needs. This year has not been easy, thus far. Student needs are rapidly evolving amidst the uncertainty that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought upon us. As a member of the Senate, I would do nothing less than ensure that everyone is afforded an equitable learning opportunity. Professionally, I joined the Ryerson MScM. program to broaden my background before attending Law School. This was an opportunity I was humbled to be presented with and I am very excited to be undertaking along with other leaders in academia. I aspire to pursue a career in Corporate Law, emphasizing on Mergers and Acquisitions. Ideally taking up a role of counsel, and compliance officer, for a Private Equity firm. I hope to be humbled with the opportunity to represent Ryerson as a member of the Senate. NICOLE WILSON I am beyond excited by the prospect of serving the Ryerson Graduate Studies student body as one of two Graduate senators. To summarize MSc. Applied Mathematics my campaign, I support the respect of individuals. Although I am currently an MSc student, I have also spent the past twelve years teaching high school, college, and university students. Over the course of that time my biggest take-away is that education systems as we know them do not appropriately account for various learning styles when it comes to tests and examinations. One of my plans as your Graduate senator is to examine how testing and exam procedures can be updated to better test each individual student’s understanding and processing of course material. I believe we need to account for the many types of learners in our world. Beyond this, I am also an organizer for many animal liberation organizations. I would like to re-examine University policies around animal testing for research. Studies show that in 96% of cases the predictability resulting from animal testing fails. I hope to raise the issue of animal experimentation to the Senate in order to find ways for Ryerson students to continue their research in a more effective way that refrains from subjecting innocent beings to this needless experimentation. Vote Nicole Wilson for Senate – Respect the individual!
