APPLICATION FAQS VET Delivered to Secondary School Students How do I enrol? You can only enrol in these VET programs through your school. Contact your VET coordinator or careers advisor. When do applications close? We give priority to applications received by Friday 1 November 2019. Late applications will be accepted but positions are not guaranteed. Please note that classes run subject to student numbers. What happens after I apply? If your application is successful, you will be contacted at a later date by the respective department. A contract will be sent to your school four weeks after classes commence. VCAL How do I enrol? You apply through the course page on the Holmesglen website, then Holmesglen staff will contact you to organise your interview and pre-training assessments. During your interview, you will need to complete an industry choices form. When do applications close? You can apply all the way up to the course start date. What happens after I apply? You will also have gained industry relevant skills that may be immediately applied in entry level employment opportunities within the industry. This course is suitable if you have an interest in digital media, animation, web design and graphic design. Overview: In the first year of this course, you will learn to follow a design process, produce and prepare images, and collect and generate content. These skills will be used to develop media for print and screen, and create interactive applications using the Adobe CS5 suite of products, specifically, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Flash. You will complete projects including a DL postcard, DVD slip cover, disc label, HTML newsletter, HTML website, Flash animation, Flash video, Flash website, and group website (Flash and HTML). In the second year, you will enhance your design skills by exploring layout and typography. You will develop visual literacy through maintaining a visual diary and learn about writing styles for varying multimedia content. You will develop a game using Flash ActionScript and learn the basics of digital composing using After Effects. You will also complete several projects, including logo development and corporate identity, Illustrator Portrait, an advertising pitch (group exercise), a Flash game, Flash digital portfolio and After Effects video sequence. In addition, you will spend time at the end of the course preparing for the multimedia exam. Overview: This course provides you with an introduction to the practice of graphic design and prepares you to enter a wide range of art and design courses at certificate, diploma and degree level. Supported by encouraging, industry experienced teachers, you will be introduced to a wide variety of drawing materials and techniques when producing finished design pieces using the Adobe suite of products, including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Throughout the course, you will create illustrations, both manually and digitally, explore layout and typography, learn digital DSLR photography and how to apply colour in a variety of contexts. Upon successful completion of this course, you will have prepared a folio of design projects, learned how to present them professionally and participated in an exhibition of your work. Overview: Engineers are interested in how things work and are employed to design, invent, create, maintain and improve everything from buildings to bridges and aeroplanes, to plastics and computers. This course aims to provide pre-employment training and pathways into the engineering manufacturing or related industries and entry into the wider engineering industry. It will provide you with competencies in a range of engineering skills such as welding, basic machining, fabrication and use of hand and power tools. This course is suitable if you have an interest in air-conditioning and refrigeration, CAD, electrical, mechanical, structural engineering, fabrication and panel beating. Fabrication tradespeople learn to make and repair metal fabricated products, including the shaping, cutting and welding of metal. They are often engaged in projects that involve heavy metal design in construction, mining, manufacturing, power generation and shipping industries. Students studying the games stream are also suitable to follow a study pathway into a Certificate IV in Web Based Technologies, and a Diploma of Website Development. Overview: This course will give you the skills to be competent in introductory game design and development - an excellent pathway in getting started in the game design industry. Career opportunities: The course produces workers who provide assistance to physiotherapy professionals, and registered and enrolled nurses. Workers at this level operate under direct supervision and do not conduct programs or therapeutic interventions. Overview: During this course, you will complement and expand your scientific studies by gaining the practical skills and knowledge to assist in collecting and preparing samples to carry out, measure and record results associated with the day-to-day operations within a chemical, biological and physical testing laboratory. You will learn skills in maintaining a laboratory, routine sampling and testing, recording data, and using laboratory computing programs. It’s an amazing opportunity and everyone has been so supportive of me and my friends.” Laura Flynn The Early Learning Centre Assistant, The Royal Children’s Hospital Certificate I in Work Education graduate Laura was part of new integrated practical placement program with The Royal Children’s Hospital. The pilot program saw 10 students from the Certificate I in Work Education class complete practical placements at the hospital. Laura worked in the Early Learning Centre, where she received employment following her work experience. Holmesglen’s partnership with The Royal Children’s Hospital was created to increase job outcomes for students with learning disabilities.
