“ADVENTURE TIME,” this show has a quirky sense of humor with plenty of great lines,
great characters in a unique and expanding world along with a dedicated fan base. With
all of this in mind, write a :60 promo.
INSPIRATION: I enjoyed the music in the “Adventure Time” Season 3 Promo and I built
on the music theme by having “Adventure Time” characters sing and dance. I chose a
sound bite / song from a “Memory of a Memory” episode because it sums up “Adventure
Timeʼs” premise and its main character, Finn. In the promo, I use the soundbite / song
twice to give the audience an opportunity to learn the lyrics to sing along with the cast of
“Adventure Time.”

“Regular Show.” Think of a contest that would fit with a show like this. What would a
viewer at home win? Be conceptual. Be ridiculous. Write a contest spot.
INSPIRATION: “Regular Showʼs” characters Mordecai and Rigby play the hand game
Rock, Paper, Scissors (or as Pops calls it “Quartz, Parchment, Shears”) in several
different episodes of the series. Playing the game is a great way to slack off and
entertain yourself and friends. I created a “Regular Show” contest around rock, paper,
scissors.
“Regular Showʼs,” Rock, Paper, Scissors World Championship is held at Comic Con in
San Diego. To qualify for the world championship, contestants must win a “Regular
Showʼs,” Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament. Twenty tournaments are held throughout
the United States at multi-genre conventions such as Dragon Con in Atlanta and
Chicago Comic Con.
There are no entry fees to enter the tournaments and there is a children's and an adult
division. All participants receive a free limited edition “Regular Show” T-shirt. The shirt
shows Mordecai and Rigby playing rock, paper, scissors with the title “Quartz,
Parchment, Shears” above their images.
Winners of each tournament receive an all expense paid trip to Comic Con in San Diego
for the opportunity to become a world champion. The “Regular Showʼs” Rock, Paper,
Scissors World Championship is promoted on Cartoon Networkʼs website with the
“Regular Showʼs,” Rock, Paper, Scissors online video game.

Stunts. We often show blocks of our most popular cartoons as potential ratings boosters
and what better way to get ratings than a full day of “Scooby Doo” episodes and movies.
How would you promote this? Donʼt limit yourself. Be creative. Be conceptual. Write a :
30 promo.”
INSPIRATION: When I think of the “Scooby Doo” series, I instantly envision Shaggy and
Scooby inhaling food. One of my favorite foods is barbecue. Slopeʼs BBQ, in
Alpharetta, GA, has delicious barbecue and awful television commercials. The
commercials are so bad that they are good.
Combine “Scooby Doo,” barbecue, and bad local commercials and you have this
promo. Other mock local businesses, such as a Tae Kwon Do Dojo and a Van Repair
Garage, would also promote the “Scooby Doo” marathon. For more examples of
awesomely bad local television commercials see IFCʼs “Commercial Kings.”

INSPIRATION: When I have conversations with foreigners and work with translators, I
always wonder if my words are being conveyed correctly. The language barrier and
peoplesʼ different perceptions of the world can create misinterpretations of my original
message.
In “The Amazing World of Gumball,” Gumballʼs perception of himself, his family, and
classmates is not based in reality. In this promo, Gumballʼs classmate and foreign
exchanged student, Juke reveals the truths behind Gumballʼs statements with his beat
box translations.

“Interstitials. These are longer pieces (1:30 - 2:30) that serve more as content rather
than promo. We dig deep in to our shows and find those funny characters or nuances
that may not necessarily be on the surface and put a spotlight on ʻem. This requires
knowing all the inʼs and outʼs of our shows. For example, the “whip” sound effect in
Johnny Test is applied to nearly every character gesture, so we made an interstitial
focusing on this prevalent sound. So, pick a Cartoon Network show and write an
interstitial!”
INSPIRATION: I love the “Adventure Time” characters that speak foreign languages or
have foreign accents. I laugh every time Lady Rainicorn and BMO (Beemo) appear on
the show. Personally I would like to interview “Adventure Timeʼs” creator, Pendleton
Ward, and have an interstitial on what inspired these characters. To tell a story and
make the interstitial more entertaining, I created two nerdy adult Indian super fans
named Raj and Anoop. These uber “Adventure Time” enthusiasts dress as Finn and
Jake and are the Indian equivalent of Jay and Silent Bob. The promo focuses on Raj
and Anoopʼs hilarious fanboy and intense collector personalities and not on Indian
stereotypes. The two best friends fanatically dream of an “Adventure Time” character
that speaks their native language of Hindi. They travel to America to persuade
Pendleton Ward to create this character.

character that speaks Hindi, but because mean...had a dream and now it is
of his nerves he fumbles his words and here.......”
says “had” when he should have said
“have.” . PENDLETON (uncomfortable): That is
very flattering, I donʼt know what to say. I
am very happy to help you with your
dream.
Raj and Anoop high five and embrace RAJ: “I canʼt believe it, you will help us
each other. This is the first time Anoop with our dream and create a character
shows any emotions. that speaks Hindi!”
PENDLETON: “Excuse me? What do
you mean?”
Raj is frustrated and Anoop is confused. RAJ: “You said you are happy to help us
with our dream and our dream is an
“Adventure Time” character that speaks
Hindi.”
Pendletonʼs apology makes Raj angry. PENDLETON: “Sorry, sorry, my bad, I
thought your dream was this interview.”Raj raises his voice and throws his arms RAJ (angry then sad): “My bad? You
in the air. Anoop silently weeps. conceded American. We travel so far.
You are a dream killer.”
Pendleton sincerely apologizes for the PENDLETON: “Guys I am so sorry about
miscommunication. this miscommunication. Can I make it up
to you?”
Raj and Anoop are open to hear how “I heard that you are quite the toy

Anoop speaks for the first time. ANOOP (Indian accent): “Figurine.”
Pendleton displays the Finn and Jake PENDLETON: “Sorry, figurine collectors
action figurines as Raj and Anoopʼs eyes and as a gift I would like to give you these
light up. one of a kind Finn and Jake collectable
figurines.”
Raj and Anoop embrace the figurines and RAJ: “This is a dream come true.”

With great joy, Raj thrusts his toy sword RAJ: “Adventure Time!”
in the air and yells “Adventure Time.”
With little or no emotions, Anoop stands
by Rajʼs side and holds the figurines.
