FOREWORD A very warm welcome to you in our third year of producing Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, as we invite you to BE TOGETHER this Hogmanay. Now more than ever is the time to celebrate ‘togetherness’ and what better way than surrounded by people from all over the world at New Year? From performers to audiences, this festival is about coming together, being together, sharing experiences together and sharing the start of a new year arm in arm and side by side. BE ready to party from the 30th December as we return with a programme of events at the magnificent McEwan Hall. From the return of hit clubbing experience Symphonic Ibiza on 30th December featuring Ibiza DJs and a live orchestra, to the first party in 2020 celebrating the new year along with the Southern Hemisphere at G’Day 2020 with Kylie Auldist on 31 December. Jazz legends Ronnie Scott’s Big Band will play a gala concert on 31st December to give an alternative lead up to the bells and renowned DJ Judge Jules will spin into the wee small hours at our first ever Official After-Party. BE a trailblazer at the Torchlight Procession in partnership with VisitScotland. The historic event culminates in Holyrood Park as torchbearers create a symbol to share with the world: this year two figures holding hands - both residents and visitors to Scotland opening their door to the world and saying BE together. BE in the thick of it at the world famous Street Party hosted by Johnnie Walker, with a brilliantly eclectic programme of music, street theatre and spectacle. This year’s music stages include the legendary Marc Almond, a DJ set from Glasgow’s Arielle Free from BBC Radio 1 and an appearance from Scottish indie rock heroes Idlewild. Putting the party onto the street are an amazing international collection of giant puppets, jugglers, hip hop dancers, fire artists and drummers who will come together to entertain us all. And let’s not forget superstar DJ Mark Ronson who headlines the concert in the gardens and who’s also creating a soundtrack to accompany the world famous midnight firework display. We hope you have a very Happy Hogmanay together! CHARLIE WOOD & ED BARTLAM DIRECTORS, UNDERBELLY 2 0131 510 0395 | EDINBURGHSHOGMANAY.COM
together Welcome to Edinburgh’s Hogmanay where you are part of the world’s biggest celebration to bring in the New Year. Our three-day festival has something for everyone. See the city glow as the spectacular Torchlight Procession in partnership with VisitScotland parades through the historic streets on 30th. Soak up the unique atmosphere of our world-famous Street Party on the big night itself or get a ticket to the hottest show in the country, our Concert in the Gardens, headlined by superstar DJ, Mark Ronson. If you’re feeling brave join fellow revellers for the Loony Dook on 1st of January. Blow away the cobwebs and kick-start the New Year with a trip to South Queensferry and a dip in the icy waters of the Forth. Hogmanay refreshes and reenergises each year but also continues to honour our long held traditions. I hope you have a fantastic time ‘first footing’ with us and wish you all a happy and healthy 2020. HOW TO GET HERE Getting to Edinburgh couldn’t be easier. Not only is Edinburgh Airport the country’s fastest growing airport, it’s also the country’s most connected, with flights arriving from places as close as London and Manchester and as far away as New York and Abu Dhabi. The city’s trams or Airlink bus connect the airport directly with the city centre running regular services. If you’re travelling by rail, the city’s two main stations - Edinburgh Waverley and Edinburgh Haymarket – welcome passengers from the south coast of England and the northernmost points of Scotland. When you’re here, it couldn’t be easier to get around. Lothian Buses and Edinburgh Trams will get you around the city easily, or there’s the option of hailing an iconic black cab, with great service. For everything else, Edinburgh’s compact size means one of the best ways to get to know it is by foot.
