Lord, have mercy. R. Lord, have mercy. Gloria – please refer to the music pages above in your packet Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. Collect Priest: Almighty ever-living God, who assumed the Immaculate Virgin Mary, the Mother of your Son, body and soul into heavenly glory, grant, we pray, that, always attentive to the things that are above, we may merit to be sharers of her glory. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. THE LITURGY OF THE WORD Reading 1 Rv 11:19a; 12:1-6a, 10ab God’s temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant could be seen in the temple. A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was with child and wailed aloud in pain as she labored to give birth. Then another sign appeared in the sky; it was a huge red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and on its heads were seven diadems. Its tail swept away a third of the stars in the sky and hurled them down to the earth. Then the dragon stood before the woman about to give birth, to devour her child when she gave birth. She gave birth to a son, a male child, destined to rule all the nations with an iron rod. Her child was caught up to God and his throne. The woman herself fled into the desert where she had a place prepared by God. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have salvation and power come, and the Kingdom of our God and the authority of his Anointed One.” The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Responsorial Psalm will be sung – please refer to the music pages above in your packet Reading 2 1 Cor 15:20-27 Brothers and sisters: Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through man, the resurrection of the dead came also through man. For just as in Adam all die, so too in Christ shall all be brought to life, but each one in proper order: Christ the firstfruits; then, at his coming, those who belong to Christ; then comes the end, when he hands over the Kingdom to his God and Father, when he has destroyed every sovereignty and every authority and power. For he must reign
until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death, for “he subjected everything under his feet.”. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. The Alleluia is sung – please refer to the music pages above in your packet Gospel Lk 1:39-56 Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.” And Mary said: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me and holy is his Name. He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation. He has shown the strength of his arm, and has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. He has come to the help of his servant Israel for he has remembered his promise of mercy, the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his children forever.” Mary remained with her about three months and then returned to her home. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Homily Nicene Creed I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; Through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, [at the words that follow, up to and including “and became man,” all bow.] and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. Prayer of the Faithful Priest: Blessed is she who trusted that the Lord's words to her would be fulfilled. Like Mary, let us now trust that he will hear our prayers. Lector: 1. For all who have left the practice of the Faith, that through the intercession of the Queen of Heaven they receive the grace to return to the sacraments... We pray to the Lord. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you: fruit of the earth and work of human hands, it will become for us the bread of life. People: Blessed be God for ever. Priest: Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you: fruit of the vine and work of human hands, it will become our spiritual drink. People: Blessed be God for ever. Priest: Pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father. People: May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name, for our good and the good of all his holy Church. Prayer over the Offerings May this oblation, our tribute of homage, rise up to you, O Lord, and, through the intercession of the most Blessed Virgin Mary, whom you assumed into heaven, may our hearts, aflame with the fire of love, constantly long for you. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Preface and Eucharistic Prayer follow… THE COMMUNION RITE The Lord’s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil… Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles: Peace I leave you, my peace I give you; look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will. Who live and reign for ever and ever. Amen.
The Sign of Peace Priest: The peace of the Lord be with you always. People: And with your spirit. Priest: Let us offer each other the sign of peace. The Lamb of God is sung. Priest: Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. People: Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed. Act of Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there and unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen. Prayer after Communion Priest: Having received the Sacrament of salvation, we ask you to grant, O Lord, that, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whom you assumed into heaven, we may be brought to the glory of the resurrection. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Concluding Rites Announcements 1. Once again, we remind all of our ministers and volunteers that if you want to serve in any way at St. Dominic’s you must be recertified through safe environment classes called
“Virtus” every few years. If you need recertification, there is information about these classes in today’s bulletin. 2. St. Dominic’s joins Pope Francis, health experts, and the bishops of the United States, including Archbishop Gomez, to encourage all of our parishioners to get vaccinated against the COVID virus. Getting vaccinated is an act of charity that serves the common good. 3. Fr. Roberto’s message in today’s bulletin includes some positive and encouraging information about how our Catholic Church has helped so many people during the pandemic. This message is also at the end of the Mass packets for our online viewers. Final Blessing and Dismissal Priest: The Lord be with you. People: And with your spirit. Priest: May the blessing of almighty God, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, descend upon you and remain with you forever. People: Amen. Priest: Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life. People: Thanks be to God. Closing song – please refer to the music pages above in your packet A Message from Fr. Roberto LA Catholics Make an Impact So often our Catholic Church gets negative coverage in the media. While sometimes we deserve it for the foolish and even sinful things our Church has done, there are also many good things we Catholics have done throughout the centuries and to the present day. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles recently sent this report for us to share with our parishioners about the great service we Catholics have provided for many people during this last year of the pandemic. I hope it gives you some pride in our Catholic Church. To see the entire report, go to https://lacatholics.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/LA-Catholics-Make-An-Impact-Final- Report-2021.pdf. *********************************************************
As the Catholic Community in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, we are 4.5 million Catholics, 287 Parishes, and 265 Schools. Here are just some of the highlights of our accomplishments this last year of the pandemic: • More than $10,000,000 used to help families in need in Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties • Served more than 460,000 individuals and families • Provided 3,900,000 social services • Provided virtual formation to 114,000 individuals • 180,000 Masses celebrated live-stream and in-person, indoors and outside, in more than 40 languages. • Distributed more than 85,000 pieces of Personal Protection Equipment to Catholic Schools and Parishes • Catholic Charities of Los Angeles provided 568,700 services to 237, 204 families and individuals – from providing food, utilities and shelter to helping with immigration issues. • Catholic schools raised nearly $9,000,000 to support over 68,000 high-need students to continue their Catholic School education. Over 26,000 iPads were distributed and, as a result, there was no disruption in learning. There was academic performance growth in reading and math in elementary and high schools across the Archdiocese in the last school year • The St. Vincent de Paul Society in Los Angeles served 104,969 people with 25,364 Visits or calls to those in need. • Catholic hospitals served 14,832 COVID-19 patients and administered 134,341 COVID-19 vaccination doses Encouragement to the Unvaccinated This note from the Archdiocese was sent to unvaccinated priests, but it is a helpful reminder to all of us. – Fr. Roberto: To those who have not yet been vaccinated, we invite you to please consider doing so. Pope Francis, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, and Archbishop Gomez have all confirmed the morality of being vaccinated in this pandemic and have recommended that Catholics do so if possible. It is an important step toward preserving your own health, but it is also much more. As the USCCB Committee on Doctrine and the Committee on Pro-Life Activities noted, “[B]eing vaccinated can be an act of charity that serves the common good” amid the ongoing pandemic that has affected so many lives. Your vaccination, along with following proper protocols such as masking and hand- washing, is in fact an act of charity toward those with whom you live and those whom you serve. It is in that context that we encourage you to do so.
