SPECIAL FEATURE SPECIAL FEATURE LUXURY SAILING YACHT FIDELIS A magnificent luxury 56m, 184ft Superyacht, Fidelis (Latin for ‘faithful’), arrived in Singapore and is moored at Republic of Singapore Yacht Club’s marina for a one-month stopover from 27 January to 21 February 2020, having sailed in from its last port of call, Tanjung Benoa, Indonesia. She is temporarily at a nearby shipyard having maintenance work done before returning on 1st March for a period of 7 days before proceeding to Benoa and then onto Hong Kong. Some of the RSYC staff had the opportunity to go onboard the luxury yacht and was given a tour by Captain Guy Fraser and First Master Grant Keenan. The crew were extremely friendly and took the time to share their experience onboard SY Fidelis as RSYC staff exclaimed a lot of “wows” while touring the yacht. WWW.FACEBOOK.COM/RSYC.SG 9
AT SPECIAL THE HELM FEATURE Introduction about SY Fidelis Fidelis is a beautiful superyacht from the 56 metre series launched by the Perini Navi shipyard in April 2011. The 496-ton custom sailing yacht is registered to the United Kingdom with its home port listed as Douglas in the Isle of Man. Fidelis’ owners wanted to plan the interior arrangements and ultimately the yacht’s LOA to suit their cruising goals. Fidelis is uniquely faithful to her owners’ desire to enjoy more time with their family. The stylish and comfortable yacht can accommodate up to 12 people and is manned by 10 crew members. It features an owner’s quarters with office and couch ports areas, a generous bathtub, private shower area and a central dressing room. Four guest cabins are furnished with queen-size beds and two Pullmans, en-suite with a large shower, couch and desk area. Particularly impressive areas of the superyacht Fidelis are its sturdy deck, with two cockpits and a plush interior. The interior has a refined and contemporary style where simple and clean lines are combined with precious materials such as stained walnut, wenge, parchment, maple, teak, marble and leather. With the transom’s ability to open and become a sea-level platform with staircase leading into the water and the vessel’s array of water toys and sports equipment that can be loaded and unloaded through a port side hatch, Fidelis offers everything imaginable for a stay as comfortable, stylish and relaxing as one could hope for, and more. S/Y Fidelis’s Adventure Captain Guy also shared that S/Y Fidelis never stopped sailing since she was delivered, from the Amazon River to Desolation Island and Australia, rounding both Capes. Her maximum speed is 15 knots and she boasts a maximum cruising range of 13 knots. S/Y Fidelis has brought them to many places including Antarctica and the Great Barrier Reef. The owner does join the crew onboard the yacht almost every month for a week or so and loves to go scuba-diving with First Master Grant who act as their diving leader. The most memorable time for Captain Guy is when they manage to see sharks, whales and dolphins all at one time in the open sea. RSYC had the pleasure to house such a magnificent yacht. This should give confidence to other superyacht owners that RSYC is able to provide the berthing, marina support and facilities they need. With this, we look forward to seeing more superyachts berthing in RSYC! 10 RSYC.ORG.SG

ATSEASPORTS THE HELM SEASPORTS NUS SAILING TEAM Guangzhou Nansha International Sailing Regatta 2019 2019 was an exciting year for NUS Sailing Team. Ending the year off with a blast, our sailors represented Singapore at the 3rd Guangzhou Nansha International Sailing Regatta 2019. Sailing in China was a first for some of the NUS Sailors but that did not affect the determination of these athletes! They put up a great fight and soon became attuned to the sailing conditions. The sailors successfully clinched the 3rd place for FE26 class and 2nd place in J70 Class! Another impressive achievement by NUS Sailors. Said NUS Sailing Captain Matthew: “The regatta was a great way to measure our sailor’s progress relative to other countries. The conditions were really different from those we were expecting. Fortunately, our sailors gave it their all and were justly rewarded.” NUS Sailors in Nansha NUS Sailors getting 3rd place in the FE26 Class Royal Langkawi International Regatta 2020 NUS Sailing goes to Langkawi! In the winter break, some of our NUS sailors had to swiftly pack up their backpack and set out for Langkawi to participate in the Royal Langkawi International Regatta 2020. With 20 knots of wind at noon with choppy wind- waves, NUS Sailors brace themselves and fought through the glistening waters around the Langkawi Archipelago. “It was a great experience for our new sailors to gain exposure to sailing regattas and an even better way to recharge before the start of school! Looking forward to more overseas regattas ahead.” – NUS Sailor Chantelle. NUS Sailing looks forward to the upcoming RSYC Regatta and many more in the years ahead! ATSEASPORTS THE HELM DOCKSIDE THE DEVELOPMENT OF RSYC’S MARINA RSYC Marina has gone through a lot of development and changes from the Trafalgar Street Clubhouse to Sungei Pandan Clubhouse and the current Clubhouse at 52 West Coast Ferry Road. For many years, RSYC stood as the lone yacht club for powerboating, sailing and rowing activities. In recent decades, modern marinas began sprouting up, therefore RSYC kept up with the development and transformed itself from the backwaters of the Pandan Creek to the modern marina and Yacht Club that it is today. For loyal Members of RSYC, you would have remembered the mangrove swamp we were in at the Sungei Pandan Clubhouse which we called home from 1966 to 1999. There were no pontoons and buoys were used as moorings. Boat Owners couldn’t walk to their boats and had to be ferried using a small boat driven by RSYC Staff. As for those who chose to berth on land, the dry stack was only partially sheltered. Speed Boats were also placed on trailers and exposed. The Clubhouse faced a lot of uncertainties and difficulties over moorings and access, as it was constrained by a low bridge and heavy siltation. 34 RSYC.ORG.SG
DOCKSIDE RSYC moved to its present location at 52 West Coast Ferry Road in 1999 with a vision of a modern social club with the best facilities and a fully serviced marina. It continues to support and promote its water sports, but its recreational facilities now comprise of a lodge, a swimming pool, two restaurants, two bars, gym, jackpot and karaoke room. In attaining the vision of having a fully serviced marina, RSYC opened its 5-storey vertical Dry Storage Facility for 206 boats in 2012 in additional to the 116 wet berths and storage space for 40 Jet Skis. Wavescreen was completed in December 2018 which resulted in calmer water around the berths and attracted many boaters back to RSYC. In May 2019, with the increasing number of Super Yachts visiting Singapore, RSYC upgraded its Marina by constructing 11 additional Super Yacht Berths. Ever since the completion, RSYC has become one of the favourites for Super Yacht Captains, due to many reasons such as alongside berthing availability, no tide constraints and the modern marina facilities available. We look forward to welcoming you and your yachts to join us at RSYC as we pride ourselves in providing an unrivalled marina experience, no matter where your adventure takes you.
