is the author of "Just and Unjust Wars" and a major theorist of the ethics of war and humanitarian

composites rather than simple-to-apply maxims. Although for a long-time he was co-editor of
Dissent, a democratic-socialist periodical, Walzer is hard to categorize and therefore interesting as
someone sympathetic to tradition and skeptical of utopias. The course will be a reading and
discussion of some of Walzer's writings about war, equality, social criticism, and national identity.

FLIGHT OF REMEMBRANCE: POST WWII IMMIGRATION
Tues. 1:00-2:00 (single session March 30 only)

lingering fears beset them as they contemplated setting out on a new and uncertain future? Like
immigrants of every place and time, leaving behind everything familiar even after the devastation
of war, was a daunting prospect, but the cherished dreams of key family members from a young
