A Celebration of the Day of the Resurrection of Our Lord April 4, 2021 Christ is risen! Jesus is alive, and God has swallowed up death forever. With Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome, we may feel astonished and confused, unsure of what to make of the empty tomb. But this is why we gather: to proclaim, witness, praise, and affirm the liberating reality of Christ’s death and resurrection. In word and feast, we celebrate God’s unending love, and depart to share this good news with all the world. Alleluia! +1+
WELCOME! A Special Note: The Chapel’s Mission and Vision Our service is being Centered in Christ, the ministry of the Chapel of the Resurrection proclaims God’s love, serves students, livestreamed to YouTube faculty, staff, and the wider community, and welcomes all. today. Find the link at Valpo.edu/chapel Worship Values & COVID-19 Protocols Worship services at the Chapel will fully comply with all COVID-19 protocols established by Valparaiso University in dialogue with Chapel staff. Face coverings, social distancing, and a special distribution of Holy Communion are all part of this. All attending from off campus are subject to check in and screening in the narthex (lobby). Visitors will be required to wear a visitor badge. Because we are now being limited to having only 100 worshipers in our building, we will be pre-registering people for worship each week until further notice. A link can be found on our website (valpo.edu/chapel) and through Facebook. Please maintain three chairs vacant between yourself and others in your row who are not part of your household or quarantine pod. Holy Communion Special precautions are being taken with the distribution of Holy Communion. This Service of Word and Sacrament today in the Chapel of the Resurrection is sponsored by Valparaiso University and conducted in accordance with Holy Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions. Lay men and women—students, faculty, and staff—assist the pastors in conducting the worship services and in carrying out the ministry in this community. The Holy Communion is celebrated here in the confidence of receiving from our Lord all that he promises when he gives his body and blood to eat and to drink. With such celebration goes the pastoral concern that all worshipers examine themselves lest they contradict Christ by sin against him and his people. In the Sacrament we are most fully one with Christ and with one another, and in this Meal we are nourished to live in faithfulness to Christ and his Word and in forgiveness and in love toward one another. Because communion at the table of our Lord is such a confession of faith, worshipers who are in doubt or who hold a differing confession of faith and yet desire to receive the Sacrament should first consult with one of the pastors. No one is required to commune. You also have the option to commune in one kind only (receiving either the bread or the wine alone) or to receive a personal blessing at the altar. Rest Rooms Rest rooms are available in the Undercroft, down the spiral staircase off the narthex at the southwest end of the building. Handicap accessible/family bathrooms are located in the Chapel narthex. Offerings The offerings received today fund the programming of the Chapel of the Resurrection’s student ministries. You can scan the QR code (at left) to the link give.valpo.edu. Choose “other” and list “Chapel offering” in the comment box. Those desiring to make an offering by check are asked to make the check payable to “Valparaiso University” and include “Chapel Offering” in the memo line. Today’s Cover Art JESUS MAFA. WORD FIRST READING Acts 10:34-43 L A reading from Acts: Peter crosses the immense religious and Peter began to speak to [the people]: “I truly understand that God shows no social boundary that partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is separates Jews from acceptable to him. You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, preaching Gentiles in order to peace by Jesus Christ—he is Lord of all. That message spread throughout Judea, proclaim the good news beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John announced: how God anointed of Jesus’ life, death, Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing and resurrection, so good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. We that God’s forgiveness in Jesus’ name would are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to reach out to all people. death by hanging him on a tree; but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear, not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.” L The word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. +4+

They had been saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us the response is one of from the entrance to the tomb?” When they looked up, they saw that the stone, terror and amazement. which was very large, had already been rolled back. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you.” So they went out and fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.
