The RWS and RMS Terms of Reference Guiding Document
Terms of Reference TOR defines the purpose and structure of a work of people who have agreed to work together to accomplish a shared goal. Ø Provides Background, Objectives, Indicates the issues and Purpose of a proposed project.
Terms of Reference • Goals & Objectives ü The goal of the Responsible Wool Standard is to ensure that wool comes from farms with a progressive approach to managing their land, and from sheep that have been treated responsibly • Scope ü Does & Does not cover. • Needs Justification ü Why we need? • Assumptions & Risk Assessment • Monitoring & Evaluation ü KPIs. ü Impact Evaluation (dependent on the goals).
What is Theory of Change? And how do we use it?
Theory of Change • A Theory of Change articulates both: • WHAT the intended change is that a organisation or initiative or a standard is hoping to make and; • HOW its work brings about that change. • Therefore a ToC maps out the causal chain or 'pathway' among strategies, outputs, outcomes, and impacts as well as the underlying assumptions.
Textile Exchange Mission & Vision • Textile Exchange’s mission is to inspire and equip people to accelerate sustainable practices in the textile value chain. We focus on minimizing the harmful impacts of the global textile industry and maximizing its positive effects. Our vision is of a global textile industry that protects and restores the environment and enhances lives. • Each Textile Exchange standard has been developed in response to a particular need identified by the textile industry. They share a number of common overarching goals supporting the delivery of the Textile Exchange vision. • Drive an increase in the adoption of preferred fibers. • Enable collective impact and action across the industry. • Increase integrity throughout the value chain via the adoption of standards and certifications. • Raise awareness about the positive, meaningful changes accomplished.
RWS and RMS: Goals and Objectives The goal of the Responsible Wool Standard is to ensure that wool comes from farms with a progressive approach to managing their land, and from sheep that have been treated responsibly. The goal of the Responsible Mohair Standard is to ensure that mohair comes from farms with a progressive approach to managing their land, and from angora goats that have been treated responsibly. The objectives of the Responsible Wool and the Responsible Mohair Standards are to: • Reward and influence the wool industry to incentivize practices that respect the humane treatment of sheep and angora goats. • Education and development of the supply chain in order to drive continuous improvement of best practices. • Provide companies with a tool to know what is in their products, and to make accurate claims. • Provide a tool for the industry to better understand animal welfare at the farm level. • Ensure strong chain of custody for certified materials as they move through the supply chain.
