DISCOVER THEIR SWIM POTENTIAL Swim Lessons The Y is a national leader in swim instruction and water safety. The YMCA of Grays Harbor aquatic programs are designed to teach personal water safety and swimming skills to everyone. Our instructors are certified by YMCA swim instruction. Classes arrange swimmers by skill level as swimmers progress through the instruction program. Our progressive swim instruction method uses a problem solving, guided discovery teaching approach in a positive, caring environment. The YMCA of Grays Harbor strives to create a safe, fun, and encouraging environment for all swimmers. In addition to teaching swimming skills, our instructors are passionate about creating a positive atmosphere that encourages our students to be courteous, respectful, responsible, and confident individuals and athletes. BETTER IN NUMBERS Group Exercise Class Descriptions SPINNING- It’s the original and most popular group spinning class. You’ll torch an average of 500 calories per 45-minute ride. You’ll enjoy a heart pounding yet low impact workout while maintaining the ability to go at your own pace. HIIT -High Intensity Interval Training — is a training concept that revolves around alternating short periods of intense exercise with less intense recovery periods. Take on strength training, as well as improving overall cardiovascular fitness. All exercises can be modified to fit your fitness level. Our HIIT workouts will also focus on the core, allowing us to improve posture and overall stability. Every class will be a little different, providing a means of exploring alternate methods for getting stronger and making ourselves healthier. YOGA- Improve your flexibility, balance, strength, and relaxation skills using various postures and breathing techniques. A great calming but energizing workout! PILATES- An inspiring mat-based class that consists of exercises to highlight core, strength, joint mobility, range of motion and consistent flow of movement. Props may be used to intensify the workout while focusing on the mind/body connection. Pilates focuses on the core postural muscles which help keep the body balanced and which are essential to providing support for the spine. Equipment such as the stability ball, weighted ball and weights can be used with exercises to teach awareness of breath and alignment of the spine, and aim to strengthen the deep torso muscles. Great for all levels. CIRCUIT – This class is a high intensity 45-minute total body training. Excellent class to strengthen and tone the entire body while working with a variety of equipment: weights, tubes, Body bars, Bosu, etc. FAST & FIT - Functional strength training for 30 minutes on your lunch break. Low impact. Modifications available for all fitness levels. SPIN 45 – Enjoy the same great workout and benefit as Spinning but in a 45-minute class. ABSOLUTE- 45-minute class that absolutely works more than abs. Use a variety of equipment to strengthen your framework including glutes, core, and back. CARDIO BLAST - A variety of dance formats with high-energy-music and fun dance moves. Gentle cardio dance: offers modified, low-impact moves. BOXING- This class teaches the basic boxing stance, basic footwork, and how to throw a punch while also gradually building up your stamina, strength, and endurance. ZUMBA- A high-intensity interval training workout driven by the music. Using your body weight as resistance, work your whole body, gain endurance, strength, and power all while using the music as your motivator! You don’t have to be a dancer! ADVANCED CORE- This fast pace, 30-minute class focuses on strengthening the core. While it is advanced, there are modifications to meet you at your level.
