A Letter from the Head of School Dear HPCA Families - As our 2021-2022 school year comes to a close, I have taken time to reflect on the blessings that God has provided our school family this year. • Several students gave their lives to Christ! • We celebrated 68 high school seniors who have been awarded over $4.8 million dollars in college scholarships and grants. These seniors represent the 17th graduating class at HPCA and join over 950 HPCA Cougar Alumni! • The Cougarthon annual fundraising event and Cougar Cup Golf Tournament raised $172,000 this past fall, which are the highest monies donated in a single year to the K.M. Vestal Annual Fund. • Our preschool enrollment of over 150 students provided a structured, caring, and loving environment for our 18 months - 4 year-old children. • Each elementary grade pulled together, as a class, to serve others. Their grade-level mission projects impacted individuals within our community and across the globe. • The middle school students completed their Servants' Heart projects with excellence by helping their families and their community. • Our high school students completed their “Day of Service” event, where all high school students spent a day out in our local community serving others. • Our re-enrollment for next year is incredibly strong – over 95% of our students have indicated that they are returning for the 2022-2023 school year. We also have a waiting list for specific grade levels. We value each of our HPCA families. Your commitment to Kingdom Education, your dedication to providing your child a rigorous academic experience, and your patience, grace, and resilience over these past few months is commendable. I greatly appreciate partnering with you on this journey. As you review this Year-In-Review magazine, I ask that you take the time to count the blessings that have been bestowed upon your family this past year. Take a moment to see the good in your child’s accomplishments, to reflect on the challenges they have overcome, and rest in Him, knowing that He is in control of the future. If you feel led to do so, we have included a pledge card. All donations are being directed to the It Happens Now - A Capital Campaign for HPCA. Thank you in advance for your continued support and commitment. I hope you have a wonderful summer, and we look forward to reuniting in August! Our goal is to provide the facilities to house a gymnasium along with other campus improvements to develop and enhance the resources and programs of HPCA. GOAL FOUR Financial Resilience to provide long-term successful operations Our goal is to sustain and develop business and operational practices that provide for long-term stability. 5
Preschool The HPCA Preschool teachers and staff consider it a privilege to love, teach, and nurture the 150 preschool children who walked into our doors this year. While the demand for the HPCA Preschool continued to grow, the quality of our program mirrored that growth. Under the direction of Preschool Administrator, Mrs. Kelly Walker, the following initiative highlights have been implemented. These programs ensure a safe and caring environment is provided, partnered with a Christ-centered, hands-on, engaging learning environment. PRESCHOOL CURRICULUM The Preschool curriculum provides enjoyable, age-appropriate activities that encourage participation in major areas of learning, such as personal and social development, letter and number recognition, and motor skills development. Through the use of group and individual exploration, intentional learning centers, games, songs, and circle time participation, our stimulating preschool program encourages creativity, captures preschoolers’ interest, and instills an early love for learning. HPCA Preschool implements a Biblical worldview, and utilizes an educational curriculum that nurtures foundational knowledge and skills in Bible, math, social studies, science, and language arts through the use of music and engaging visuals. S EN SO RY TA B L E S The Preschool implements sensory tables with carefully selected materials and objects to stimulate the senses for preschool students. Sensory discovery develops a host of skills and learning such as fine motor, transferring skills, problem solving, creativity, hand and eye coordination, and pretend play. Sensory exploration builds nerve connections in the brain and encourages the expansion of language and vocabulary and social-emotional friendship skills. The endless opportunities of enjoyment and positive educational impact and the growth for all types of learning styles makes sensory learning a must for early childhood education. 6
PLC (PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES) Our preschool teachers meet together in Professional Learning Communities, where they can share ideas that enhance their teaching practice. The professional practice of meeting with colleagues in meaningful educational conversations promotes a better learning environment for our preschool students. Sharing their expertise enables teachers to improve their teaching skills, which will ultimately have a positive impact on each student’s academic achievement. STUDENT ASSESSMENTS & PA R E N T T E A C H E R C O N F E R E N C E S HPCA Preschool administers three student assessments during the school year that provide a record of growth in all Early Childhood domains - cognitive, physical/motor, language, and social/emotional learning. Assessment is a critical part of a high-quality, early childhood program that equips both parents and teachers with an individualized tool to improve all areas of student development. Preschool assessments identify the strengths of each child and the opportunities for growth so that the preschool can meet the goals and needs of each child. Assessments are the foundation of our end- of-the-year parent-teacher conferences and a way to communicate student progress. Parent-teacher conferences provide a common ground with parents and families, collaborating the best supports, provision of information, and strategies to extend learning at home. Our preschool "littles" soak up every sweet, sweet moment spent learning about Jesus. From their angelic voices singing "Jesus Loves Me," to repeating their weekly Bible verses, learning to share with friends, and loving one another – all are foundational life lessons they will never forget. 7
Elementary and Middle School The elementary and middle school divisions have been filled with laughter, smiles, love, and learning this past school year. While our campus blossomed back to “normal,” we reflect on those little things that we love and appreciate and make our elementary school so special: parents and grandparents enjoying lunch with their children, the songs of worship filling the Green Street Baptist Sanctuary, field trips across the state, and so much more! This year many subjects had their curriculum reviewed and adjustments are being made for next year. Our goal is to ensure students have an easy transition grade-to-grade when learning the fundamentals of various subjects. From handwriting and cursive curriculum to Abeka phonics and middle school science curriculum, teaching from a Biblical perspective is a strength of each of our teachers! Elementary and middle school students participated in the IOWA testing this year. While standardized test results are neither the only nor the most important measure of success for our students, they do measure students’ comparative academic skill sets. The results are useful in evaluating and demonstrating our students’ abilities to apply knowledge to largely concrete problems. These students had the opportunity to participate in several ACSI events throughout the year, such as Math Olympics, Spelling Bees, Speech Meets, and Fine Arts competitions. By participating and competing in events such as these, students are afforded opportunities to build confidence, knowledge, and a strong sense of accomplishment. We do not doubt that what is taught in the classroom is vitally important to our students. AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS However, being able to be the “hands and feet & EXTRACURRICULAR of Christ” for our community is an imperative piece of sharing the gospel with others. Our OPPORTUNITIES elementary students serve others through their Imago Dei Soccer | LEGO Club | Robotics grade level missions projects, such as holding bake sales for Bright Star Academy in Kenya and collecting Code Club | Bel Canto | Cantare donations for Love for Ethiopia. Middle school students all participated in their personalized and 7th grade Jr. Beta | 8th grade Jr. Beta individualized Servants' Heart project to serve their family and their community. 8
EL EM EN TA RY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL RESOURCE With a much needed expanded area, flexible seating, and added technology, our Resource Program has been able to meet the individualized learning needs of students this year. Our resource team partners with classroom teachers and parents to provide academic support and remediation to students who have difficulty in the curriculum. Students may or may not have a diagnosed issue that affects academic performance. Our goal is to remediate, empower and promote success by building organization and study skills. We were excited to welcome Mrs. Jennifer Barron this year, who has brought experience in middle school education and a love for literature. Middle schoolers are energized with motivation and inspiration! The Resource team purchased and incorporated the use of Audio Exam. “This year, our 4th graders were blessed to have Mrs. Janice Myers visit This allows team members to record their class. Janice’s son, Andrew, graduated from HPCA as a Lifer in tests for students with reading deficits 2016. Janice had breast cancer in 2017 and the cancer returned a few to listen to the test questions and take months ago in her lungs and some on her liver as Stage 4. Janice loves the test at their own pace. Jesus and openly shares her testimony with others. Our fourth grade For the upcoming 2022-2023 school classes have been praying diligently for her the past few months. year, the Resource Team is excited to The reason she came is to thank the students for their continued prayers welcome Mrs. Mary Justice to their and all the cards they have made her. She handwrote 40 individual cards team, who will be available to meet for our students, explained the Bible verse she is claiming through this the needs of students qualifying for journey (Isaiah 36:3), gave them each a bookmark with the Bible verse speech therapy. printed on it, and a beautifully decorated daisy cookie (her favorite flower). Fourth graders prayed over Janice. It is such a joy and blessing to see ten-year-olds pray and have faith in Jesus! Loving Jesus and people is what life is all about. ” - Mrs. Paula Segers and Mrs. Donna Reynolds, HPCA 4th Grade Teachers 9
High School A D A Y I N T H E L I F E … Freshmen and Sophomores English teachers, Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. Dixon, are extremely gifted at creating environments where students embrace challenging material and ask questions that expand the reaches of their literary and expository experiences. AP U.S. History is the first taste of AP classes, and only available for sophomores; Mrs. Oweis teaches this class with skill and enriched elements from life experiences. Mr. Cooper's Government and Economics course brings business and debate to life; he skillfully shares current events with students and directs them to interpret them through the lens of scripture. One of his fun projects is participating in a simulated 'Shark Tank' business experiment. Fine Arts, Math, and Science classes are led by outstanding teachers, such as Mr. Oats, Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Payne, Mrs. Howard, Mrs. Migliardi, Mrs. Quattlebaum, Mr. Loy, Mrs. Fields and Mr. Bennett. Students in Spanish courses enjoy an invigorating classroom dynamic of conversational application with Mr. Sands and Mr. Aaron (who served 15 years as a missionary in Mexico). Tenth grade Bible class is taught by Mr. Bingham who keeps everyone on their toes; ninth grade Bible is taught by Mr. Beasley, who incorporates 'The Chosen' television series to help bring to life scriptural events within the life of Christ. A D A Y I N T H E L I F E … Juniors and Seniors Mr. Doyle shares insightful, intriguing trivia along with challenging novels, critical thinking, and writing techniques as he prepares seniors for college. AP science courses, taught by Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Payne, expose Cougar students to labs and material for those considering careers in medical fields. Seniors enter a session in UTT with Mr. Mach offers each student an opportunity to engage in topics of the Christian Faith and an introduction to various worldviews. Off to an AP math class with Mr. Oats where he answers every question without referencing any calculator or instructional material; he has exquisite skill. It may have been difficult to arrive at school by 8:00 a.m.! One of the highlights of the morning is visiting the Cougar Den during morning break for a blended smoothie, coffee, biscuit, or the fan favorite – a freshly baked, gooey and delicious chocolate chip cookie from Miss Flo. Throw in an award-winning fine arts experience with Mr. Bennett, Mrs. Fields or Mr. Loy, and the day has been an enriching success. Another highlight for seniors is an Advanced P.E. trip with Coach Beasley for lazer tag, putt-putt, bowling or disc golf, followed by lunch at Cookout. After successfully completing the school day, an array of extracurricular activities await the great majority of our students after school. High School students are able to participate in afterschool clubs, such as Imago Dei and Interact. All high school students served 13 different community organizations during the HPCA Day of Service. 10

HIGH POINT CHRISTIAN ACADEMY EL EM EN TA RY CH A PEL As our elementary students continue to grow spiritually, physically, academically, and socially, our goal is for them to know the Lord, understand His Word, and demonstrate acts of Christ's love in their lives. The sound of hundreds of voices praising the Lord at Elementary Chapel is certainly a favorite on campus! Guest speakers provide our students the opportunity to connect and hear spiritual leaders throughout the community share their walk with Christ. Whether it is Farmer Brown; Senior Green Street Baptist Church Pastor Brandon Ware; Nurse Brian Wells; or our own Mr. Scott Prohaska, every chapel speaker delivered an engaging, interactive experience for these students. COUGAR PAL CHAPEL Our high school seniors are partnered with elementary classes each year. This mentorship opportunity allows our younger students to engage with and prayerfully support our seniors. Whether it is cheering the seniors on at an athletic event, attending their concerts, or a high-five in the hallway, this bond is so special. This year, our Cougar Pals were able to worship together at an Elementary Chapel event. This chapel included lots of singing, cheering, smiles, and laughter all for His Glory! 12
Chapel and Spiritual Life MIDDLE SCHOOL & HIGH SCHOOL CHAPEL The 2020-2021 school year was limited in chapels due to Covid protocols. Experiencing chapels each week this year was a tremendous blessing! During middle and high school chapels our praise team, under the direction of Mr. Justin Bingham, led us in worship each week. These dedicated students sacrificed their time and came to school early in the morning to lead our students. These chapels consisted of various speakers who included local pastors, youth pastors, administrators, and teachers. Various speakers offered an array of different subjects but with all the same purpose of challenging our students to walk with Jesus. One chapel that stood out was when Vlad Prokvenevskiy spoke. Vlad was from the Ukraine and actually received an Operation Christmas shoebox and he told of his story and testimony. Although chapels continue to be a highlight of HPCA life, spiritual mentoring sessions between teachers/staff/ coaches with our students are a huge facet of the spiritual maturing process. The major focus at HPCA continues to be leading students to Jesus, building them up in Christ, and equipping them to serve Christ. 13
Fine Arts ART Led by Mrs. Dewanna Neighbours and Mr. Rodney Bennett, HPCA art students thrived by using their creativity and imagination throughout the year. Selected artwork donned school hallways, were featured on various programs, and were recognized at the school- wide Art Show in May. MUSIC Led by Mrs. Kristain Coffey and Mrs. Tami Fields, our preschool fours through high school students have the opportunity to let their voices be heard! Students performed at various events throughout the year, such as the Christmas productions, Grandparents’ Day event, seasonal concerts, and more! Students begin by learning the fundamentals of reading music, singing together and performing as a choir. These musically gifted students not only filled our hallways with the sound of music – they shared their God-given talents with people throughout the nation! The Middle School Chorus, High School Concert Chorus, and Bella Voce all received a Superior rating at the ACSI Music Festival this year! High School Concert Chorus received an Excellent rating at the Festival DISNEY! spring tour this past April. 14
DRAMA HPCA’s Drama Department certainly brought on strong performances throughout the year! High School students in drama class performed various sets throughout the year at elementary and middle school chapel. The HPCA Drama Club includes middle and high school students and is led by Miss Michaela Reynolds and Mrs. Vicki Cohen. They presented The Secret Adversary by Agatha Christie (and adapted by Tracey Wells) this spring. BAND From our sixth grade students learning their first instrument to our high school bands performing and practicing in a university setting, 2022 was a memorable year for our band students! They performed at school concerts, football games, Wake Forest Football Halftime Show, art shows, Carowinds Music Festival, and more! The Middle School Concert Band, the High School Concert Band, and the High School Jazz Band all competed in the ASCI Band Festival and each received a Superior rating! The High School Concert Band also performed at Festival Disney, receiving Excellent ratings. “Since joining HPCA, we quickly saw that this was more than a school; it is a family. The support that everyone gives each other here at HPCA goes beyond education; they wrap their arms around your family, personally and spiritually, also. Love that our children can receive an amazing education while growing spiritually in such a fun, upbeat environment” - Megan and Jordan Bouldin 15
Athletics Fielding 33 different athletic teams in twelve sports, Cougar Nation athletes bring a healthy, competitive nature; perseverance; teamwork; and dedication onto the courts and fields. Our middle school athletes test their talents, develop their skills, and grow in their enthusiasm for sports. Our high school athletics take their athletic performance to the next level, focusing on strength and conditioning, training, and an understanding of sportsmanship, both on and off the fields. This year, Coach David Spencer was honored to coach the inaugural Varsity Girls Golf Team. With five players, not only did they play the course – they wowed spectators and their competitors! What a great addition to our sports program! With tremendous team spirit, both varsity girls and boys basketball teams went all the way to compete in the State Championship games! Losing tough loses at this game, this is certainly not anything for these players and coaches to hang their heads. Cougar Nation Strong! The mission of HPCA athletics stretches way beyond the fields and courts. All teams spend time in His Word, understanding how to be a reflection of Him, and how to positively impact our local community. Team service projects allow every HPCA athlete opportunities to impact our community for Him! 16

Technology HPCA's Technology Department advances our vision of a student-centric learning environment. The use of technology is routine, transparent, and supports curricular goals. They provide support to faculty, staff, and families as we continue to leverage new educational technology resources. In our pursuit of providing Christ- centered, quality education and academic excellence, we will continue to plan for the integration of technology across all divisions. Our 3-D printers have been used to enhance the student's knowledge about the design process using Tinkercad. Students in grades 6-8 learn about the Engineering Design process and design a prototype to be printed and tested. This past year students designed bubble wands. Students in grades 3-5 learned how to use design software, Tinkercad and fun projects they can use. 5th grade designed and printed spinning tops, 4th grade designed figurines, and 3rd grade designed pencil toppers. Our web-based solution to manage and assess student learning is Canvas Learning Management System. Canvas provides a sense of consistency and flexibility for our teachers and students. In elementary grades 3-5, Canvas provides online feedback for assignments. In middle school and high school, Canvas is used for access to online assignments, multimedia content, and is an excellent platform for the use of 21st century learning tools. The Canvas Parent app enhances the potential for parents to engage in their children's education. We are focused on using all of our available resources to provide a technologically safe and secure learning environment for our students. We begin teaching them at an early age the importance of being good digital citizens – lessons we hope will follow them throughout their education at the Academy. Our third-party software, GoGuardian, is a classroom management software and computer monitoring software. During class, GoGuardian acts as the teacher's eyes when their back is turned. Outside of class, GoGuardian monitors all internet activity in real time to the Technology Coordinator who follows up as necessary. GoGuardian is used across all divisions but even more extensively in the high school, where students are assigned a Chromebook and allowed to take them home. Consequently, Google and GoGuardian settings follow the student wherever they are located, be it home or public library, etc. – they never sleep and know no geo-boundaries. “Our first two years at HPCA have far exceeded all expectations we had. We feel that our kids are engaged with the curriculum and encouraged and loved by their teachers and the entire staff. Most importantly, they are immersed in Biblical Kingdom Education, which is why we chose HPCA.” - Mandy and Bradley Luckey 18

Advancing for His Glory! Over the past two years, HPCA families have not skipped a beat when it comes to sacrificially and prayerfully donating and participating in our fundraising efforts. The gifts of time, financial support, prayer, and daily commitment to Kingdom Education have been remarkable! Tuition and fees support faculty and staff salaries, student learning and activities, insurance, transportation, and campus and classroom maintenance. However, there is a consistent need for financial aid, classroom and technology supplies, the growth of our campus, and more! These additional needs would not be met without donated monies. As a 501-C3 organization, HPCA is a non-profit. Unlike public schools that receive state funding for items such as tables and chairs, iPads, lights, building maintenance, and more, we relay solely on the generosity of our families to provide the school with needs that may arise, which are not covered by the cost of tuition. To keep tuition costs affordable, it is necessary for private schools to hold fundraisers for needed campus improvements. Noted are financial dollars allocated to these various funds from July 1, 2021 through May 15, 2022. K.M. Vestal Annual Fund - $172,000 Donated dollars to the K.M.
