Dear Colleagues, I have often heard colleagues say the profession of optometry chooses us rather than us choosing optometry. Many of you may have the same sentiment, I know I do. However, we all make the choice to be members of the American Optometric Association (AOA) for many reasons. And they are all rooted in the fact that we can do so much more united together. The optometric family is stronger than ever, and Optometry’s Meeting®, the annual meeting of the AOA and the American Optometric Student Association (AOSA), is THE time for all of us— doctors of optometry, students and paraoptometrics—to recharge and re-engage with our colleagues, our passions and our opportunities. This year, let’s meet in St. Louis, Missouri, the city AOA and AOSA call home. We want to invite everyone to kick off the festivities at AOA headquarters on Wednesday with a Block Party—I can’t think of a better way to get started than to get together and enjoy live music, craft beer, food trucks, interactive events and more! Saturday afternoon, everyone will celebrate together at Cardinals Nation, the first-ever sports- anchored entertainment district. This event will be unlike any other—with free food and drinks and a bird’s-eye view of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball game. Of course, we have some unforgettable activities to fill your time between events at the meeting, when we can all LEARN, LEAD and CONNECT. LEARN. Earn an unprecedented 43 hours of CE credits. We are offering two surgical procedures certification courses: Advanced Surgical Procedures and Laser Procedures. Our new education theater in the Exhibit Hall will host one-hour courses for credit on a variety of topics. LEAD. Optometry’s Meeting allows every participant to partner with the AOA, our association, to be a stronger, more effective advocate for our profession. Participate in the House of Delegates and help lead the advancement of optometry’s priorities or attend public sessions to become informed and get involved. We are building on AOA+ successes and helping students and new graduates become leaders of the future through three AOA+ Leadership Link activities. CONNECT. It can be a challenge to fit everything into your schedule, and that’s why Optometry’s Meeting brings it all together—in one place—for you. Meet with industry leaders in the Exhibit Hall and connect with colleagues, leaders and mentors across five full days of events. We invite you to make plans now to join us in St. Louis in June. Don’t miss this chance to be part of optometry’s future! SAMUEL D. PIERCE, O.D. ANNABELLE STORCH 2018-2019 President 2018-2019 President MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS!
