2021-2022 Registration Checklist In this registration booklet, you will find materials that will help us prepare the TCS community for the arrival of your child in September. While the forms may seem daunting at first, we ask for your patience and perseverance in completing this necessary step towards official enrolment. By law, we are required to have much of this information on hand so that we do our best to act “in loco parentis” for your child. Below you will find a checklist to help you navigate through this booklet as well as a few additional steps required before the fall. Please take your time in reviewing the list: IMMEDIATELY: ☐ Contact Top Marks directly to order your child’s uniform (see page 4) ☐ Apply for your child’s study permit through your embassy if your child is an international student ☐ Book a physical for your child with your family doctor to assist with completion of health forms ☐ After reviewing course selection and guidance information, email course choices to the appropriate guidance counsellor (see pages 10-23) BY THE END OF JUNE: ☐ Send a copy of your child’s final report card to the admissions office ☐ Submit full high school transcripts to date ☐ Forward all summer course information currently being taken or planned ☐ Return all relevant forms in this booklet to the admissions office ☐ Watch your email inbox for enrolment newsletters throughout the spring and summer which will provide information about next year The forms in this booklet are expected back by June 30th (or as soon as possible if you enrol after June 30th) so that we can do most of the preparation before summer begins. Please check the reference at the bottom right of each form to determine if it is relevant to your child. We appreciate your help with managing this deadline. If you have any other questions, please feel free to call me at 905-885-3217 ext. 1208 or by email at klabranche@tcs.on.ca. We are looking forward to the 2021-2022 school year! Kind Regards, Kathy LaBranche Director of Admissions 1
2021-2022 Welcome to Trinity College School! A message for our incoming students I would like to extend a very warm and heartfelt welcome to you and your family as you prepare to enter this wonderful community of Trinity College School. This is a very special place with an abundance of activities and great people. We feel very fortunate that you will be joining us and becoming part of the TCS family. The start of anything new is often accompanied by a lot of excitement and sometimes a fear of the unknown. Understanding this, we do a tremendous amount of preparation, months in advance of your scheduled arrival, to help ensure that your introduction to the School is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. When you do arrive on campus, a student greeter will help you get settled and introduce you to lots of new faces including fellow students and your housemaster. The admissions team will also be there to assist you and help you find your way around campus. It is our goal to make sure you are organized, ready and excited for your first day of school. We are really looking forward to seeing you in September! In the meantime, if you have any questions please just give us a call. I wish you all the very best for a safe and fun summer. 2021-2022 Uniform Ordering Information Top Marks is pleased to be the uniform supplier for Trinity College School. We assure you that we are committed to servicing the TCS community to the best of our ability. A. Placing Your Order in Person at TCS Top Marks traditionally holds an order/fitting session at TCS. However, in light of current restrictions with regards to visitors to campus, it is unclear as to whether or not our traditional fitting sessions will be possible. We will provide families with an updated regarding any potential fitting sessions as information becomes available. The staff in the TCS school store will be available to measure your child and fax your order weekdays from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. until the end of the academic year. The store is then closed for the summer but will re-open on Monday, August 16th by appointment only. Note: All visitors to campus must make an appointment and will be subject to any health & safety protocols in place at the time of the visit. B. Placing Your Order by Mail, Fax or Online You can complete the order form and measurements summary contained in the second half of this booklet and submit them to Top Marks by mail, fax, or by ordering online at www.topmarks.ca. The password is TCS01. If you have any questions about estimating your child(ren)’s size(s), our customer service staff can be contacted at info@topmarks.ca. Please note that the only methods of placing an order between the end of the academic year and August 15th will be by mail, fax or online. To guarantee delivery before the start of school, completed measurements, order forms and payment information must be received prior to July 1st. If your child is accepted after this date, Top Marks will endeavour to the best of our ability to provide the minimum number of uniform items in time in time for the start of school in September. C. Exchanges TCS traditionally organizes two exchange dates: the first at the end of August and the second in September after school has started. As we continue to plan for the fall, these dates will be confirmed at a later time and communicated to families. To complete an exchange, all uniform shipments will include a prepaid return shipping label and return authorization form. This will allow you to process and exchange or return very simply with no additional cost. It is required that you include the Top Marks Return Authorization Form in your shipment for your returns or exchanges. 4
2021-2022 D. Delivery/Payment Procedures You have the option of paying by VISA, MasterCard or cheque directly to Top Marks. Uniform orders cannot be charged to your child’s TCS account. Please note that a 25% deposit is required with each order and can also be paid by cheque, VISA or MasterCard. Regrettably, if we receive an order form without your payment authorization details, we will be unable to ship your order. Please note that all orders received on or after June 1st will be charged in full. All orders with a Canadian address will be shipped via Canada Post to the address noted on the order form. You may provide an alternate shipping address if required; however, orders for Canadian students cannot be sent to TCS. In addition, our customer service department will contact you to confirm that your order has been shipped. Shipping charges are set at $10.25 Cdn plus tax. If you pay the deposit by VISA or MasterCard, the balance owing will be charged to the same card at the time of shipping. If you pay by cheque, we ask that you pay your order in full. 2021-2022 Top Marks Frequently Asked Questions 1. Why is there a deadline date for ordering? Many of the items that make up your uniform are manufactured exclusively for your school. Receiving your order before or by the deadline date allows us to prepare our inventory with the required sizes and quantities. Keep in mind that we need enough time to cut, sew and embroider all garments in order to ship what you need before the start of school. Therefore, orders received after the deadline date cannot be guaranteed delivery before the start of school. 2. Can I modify my order? Yes you can, so long as your order has not yet been shipped. Simply contact our customer service department to request a modification. 3. What if I am not sure about sizing? Remember that when ordering uniforms in the spring, these items are intended to fit not just until September but also to the following June. To assist you, you may have your child’s measurements taken at the TCS school store, or during a Top Marks fitting session (should one be held this year). As well, a measurement chart is provided at the back of this booklet. Simply provide your child’s measurements and we will do our best to determine the sizing appropriate for your child. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact our customer service department. 4. How and where do you ship my order? All orders with a Canadian address are shipped via Canada Post to your home. If you prefer to have your order shipped to your office, or an alternate address, please indicate so on your order form under the “ship to” section. International orders are shipped directly to the School, unless a Canadian address is provided. 5. What happens if my child grows (or loses weight) over the summer? We recommend that when you receive your package, and before washing any of the items, that your child try everything on. If an exchange is required, there is an exchange form included in the package with very simple instructions on how to process. 6. Can I order more clothes later on in the school year? Yes, you can order anytime during the year. As well, shirts, socks and sweaters can be purchased directly through the TCS school store. 7. How do I best care for my uniform items? Enclosed in your package of uniforms will be a detailed sheet showing the recommended washing instructions for each item of your uniform. Please read these instructions carefully. Proper care of your uniform extends the life of the garments considerably! 8. What is your return/exchange policy? You have 60 days from the date your child starts school. You can return any garment for exchange or for a full refund as long as the garment has never been worn, washed or altered. 6

Donations of gently used and laundered current uniform items are gratefully received. Please drop off your donated items outside the Bear Boutique door (located across the corridor from the school store). If possible, donated items should be clean and/or dry cleaned and on hangers. 2021-2022 Course Selection Information and Guidance Support The course selection process is an important part of a TCS education. We pride ourselves on encouraging students to choose paths that provide a liberal arts education, are appropriate to each student’s strengths and abilities, and leave post-secondary options open. Careful and reasonable planning when it comes to course selection will ensure that your child is making the best possible choices for the future. Your input is invaluable, as we trust that you know your child’s strengths, challenges and future goals. We recognize that you may want our advice and we encourage you to reach out to your child’s counsellor should any questions arise. The planning worksheets (pages 15-23) provided are to help map out a potential path. This plan is certainly subject to change but it is very helpful in ensuring that appropriate courses are taken and that a student is not “caught” without a prerequisite further down the road. We encourage students to begin selecting courses as soon as they receive this package, as some courses with limited enrolment fill up quickly. The information below and on the following pages is designed to assist you in completing the process as efficiently as possible. Please email your child’s counsellor to book an appointment or phone conference. Bethune, Burns, Orchard, Scott and Wright Grade 9-10 Ms. Krista Koekkoek (kkoekkoek@tcs.on.ca) Grade 11-12 Mr. Ty Bailey (tbailey@tcs.on.ca) Bickle, Brent, Ketchum, Hodgetts and Rigby Grade 9-10 Ms. Kerri Dunn (kdunn@tcs.on.ca) Grade 11-12 Mr. Keith Brooks (kbrooks@tcs.on.ca) Guidance Summer Hours • open until June 25th • re-opens on August 23rd How do students select their courses? 1. Use the course selection planning sheets appropriate for the grade that your child will be entering (pages 15-23). Please keep a working copy for your files. 2. Email your course selections to your assigned counsellor (as listed above). 3. The following documents must be submitted to the admissions office in order to finalize course selections: a) A copy of your child’s final report card for 2020-2021. b) If your child is currently attending a high school in Ontario, please submit a copy of the complete transcripts, which indicate credits that have been completed. You can get a copy of the transcripts by requesting them from your child’s current school. 10
2021-2022 Grade 9 students have a more prescribed academic program due to Ministry of Education and TCS requirements. Please note that students are asked to choose between academic and applied mathematics. Applied should only be taken by students who have serious difficulty with math. Grade 10 students also have a more prescribed academic program due to Ministry of Education and TCS requirements. Students considering attending American universities should continue with the same second language studied in their first year of high school. Most top tier U.S. universities require a senior level foreign language. Grade 11 students’ course selections should be a careful combination of Grade 11 courses, which may be prerequisites for Grade 12 credits required for entrance to specific post-secondary programs. Please ensure that any Grade 12 courses required for admission are accounted for in your Grade 11 course selections so that prerequisites are in order. Note that the last two digits of the five-digit course code designate the level of the course; university prep courses end in 3U/3M for Grade 11 or 4U/4M for Grade 12. Families should begin discussion regarding post-secondary options and, if possible, visit a few schools over the summer. Your child will have regular contact with the guidance department; however, perusing websites and requesting information packages will provide a good foundation and jump-start the planning process. Grade 12 students must consider requirements for post-secondary admission. Many students may still be unsure of their path of study beyond TCS and should consider possibilities. If information is required regarding prerequisites for programs, please visit specific university/college websites or the following sites for Canadian, U.S. and U.K. universities: www.universitystudy.ca (Canada) www.electronicinfo.ca (Ontario) www.atlanticuniversities.ca (Atlantic Canada) www.collegeboard.org (U.S.) http://app.commonapp.org (U.S.) www.ucas.com (U.K.) To read course descriptions, learn about prerequisites and best preparation, please go to www.tcs.on.ca/ courses. This resource will be very helpful to review before speaking with your child’s guidance counsellor. 11

2021-2022 Advanced Placement at TCS What are Advanced Placement (AP) extension courses? Advanced Placement extension courses are enriched versions of the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum. AP exams are under the administration of the College Board in Princeton, New Jersey. Each course addresses Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum expectations and then enriches that material with university-level skills and content. For the majority of AP courses, a standard exam, set by the College Board, is written in May. The exams are generally a combination of multiple-choice, document based and free response questions. The exams are graded externally on a scale of 1 (not qualified) to 5 (extremely well qualified). A grade of 3 is considered to be a passing grade. After the AP exam, students will continue to work on Grade 11 or 12 course material and will complete a summative assessment. Students will earn one Ontario Ministry of Education credit for each full-year AP course successfully taken at TCS.
