FROM THE DESK OF TERRITORY MANAGER Bill Przelenski WE are halfway through our year and it is getting time to start an all out effort on membership re- cruiting, retention and having our orientation programs in place. Retention week is here and hope- fully every lodge participated in retention week. The time to move forward is here. Our forefather’s carry the legacy of the Moose Proudly. They believe in the Fraternity and left the Legacy of our Proud organization to us. Are we carrying on their Legacy? They did not forge this leg- acy by sitting on their hands. They dedicated their time and efforts to being successful. Are we doing the same? This all started by a dedicated few individuals who raise their hands and pledged to honor our traditions in exchange for a little recreation and enjoyment of a lodge home. Have we forgotten that obligation? Yes, this is a new time a new era, but our obligations are still the same. How can we forget our children at Mooseheart and our seniors at Moosehaven? The burden of support for Mooseheart and Moosehaven have now fallen on us. Are we willing to step up and face this chal- lenge? We were mentored by these members of the past and it seems we have forgot what we were taught. We were taught the value of family, friends and togetherness and we need to carry on this tradition. HOW? By working the program of the Moose Fraternity. The programs work but you need to put forth the effort for them to work. Yes, times have change however sitting back and complaining is not moving our lodges forward. Are we working with our younger members? Maybe we need to ask one of them to get involve and mentor them. They need to know what the Moose means and why it is important for all of us to include our children and seniors. We can make a difference by mentoring others to be better leaders of this organization. However, we must be positive and give support and motivation to inspire others. We have a clear mission in the Moose Fraternity and by supporting this mission we will become suc- cessful. We need Lodge Officers. District President and Association Officers all working together with one goal in mine. OUR CHILDREN AT MOOSEHEART AND OUR SENIORS AT MOOSEHAVEN. Without each and every one of us working together they will lose and we will lose and this is unacceptable. The time is now to CREATE OUR FUTURE. Bill Przelenski 4
STATE ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT Jim Turner Hello Brothers and Co-workers. Well summer has come and gone and all the great things that come with fall are here. Like for example, Rodney Hammond the Supreme Governor being in the great state of West Virginia. What you missed it? You missed out on a great weekend in Dist. 3. The fellowship was great not to mention the over $24000.00 Here is another thing to do this fall. Lodges and districts need to be preparing for the state Karaoke contest to be held at the Mid- Winter conference April 2-5 2020 at Lakeview Resort in Morgantown. See your dist. president for all the details. I am sure a great time will had by all that participate and that come to watch. Here is something else. How about thinking of all the people you know and count- ing how many of them are Moose members. Then ask yourself how come the rest are not, have you asked them to join? If no why not? Maybe some one you signed up has forgotten to pay their dues check the retention list to see. Give them a call maybe it just slipped their mind or maybe there is some other reason, Find out why they have not payed and encourage them to do so. Some times a phone call is all it takes to let them know they are not forgotten. The February gun tickets are a great fund raising event for the WVMA lets sell this out. We can do this . Are you honoring the veterans in your lodge. We need to do this. they served for our freedom we all owe them a great deal of gratitude for their service. Start a Val- ued Veterans program in your lodge. Give our vets a reason to join , it may help with the lodge membership numbers. as a bonus. Change is coming, it always does, the question is how do we handle it. We can em- brace it or hate it but things change. It will be interesting to see the results of the Town Hall meeting in Florida. The holidays are coming and I hope you all have a safe and happy Holiday sea- son. Please remember the less fortunate and try to help them if you can, also re- member our kids at Moose heart and our seniors at Moosehaven. . Jim Turner WVMA president 5
ASSOCIATION VICE PRESIDENT Marc Miller Greetings from St. Albans, here is hoping your holidays are full of love, joy and happiness. While the celebrations are fast approaching, I ask that you please remember our children at Moose Heart and our seniors at Moose Haven. Some of our residents have only you. I hope your lodges and chapters are sponsoring someone this time of year. Do you have a story to share from your Moose homes that will inform, inspire or involve the rest of your Moose Brothers and Sisters or to attract new members? I cannot wait to hear about what all you have been doing at the convention in April. Until we meet again. Sincerely Marc Miller WV State Vice President 6
Mick Brooks H.O.C. Chairman District 3 ATM HART OF COMMUNITY As ATM for District 3, I would like to thank all the Lodges in District 3 for the great effort they have put forth this year. The accomplishments have been great, but as always there is room for improvement. Membership is down statewide, we must continue to strengthen our association by signing members and working retention. Every November we emphasize retention week. We now need to be working retention and signing members all year. All we need to do is ask a friend or relative to join our fraternity. Times are changing, we have to change. We need to find ways to make our Lodges more appealing to prospective members. Promote lodge events and get involved with community service which in turn will produce a membership pool. Thanks District 3 for all you do. This year for the Mid -Year H.O.C. we are working with Senior Monongians, a senior citi- zens agency in Morgantown, WV. The agency is compiling a list of their needs to see if the WV Moose Association can gather donations to help their cause. I also have a couple other non-profit groups in case the seniors agency doesn’t work out. I do know that no matter what the community service project the WVMA and Chapters will come through. Thanks for all you do. District 3 ATM H.O.C. Chairman Mick Brooks 7
A Note from the Director General Wow, did we have a great time in Orlando for the historic One Moose Town Hall Meeting or what! With over 600 of our Moose sisters and brothers in attendance, I be- lieve we accomplished our goal in sharing the vision for a powerful future as One Moose. Members brought forth some well thought out questions throughout the course of the day and we are currently working on some adjustments based on the feedback. PowerPoint slides of every topic presentation, plus video clips of all the talks and follow-up questions will be posted online for all members to view. As we refine the go- forward plan for unifying our fraternity, we will be sharing that information with you through Official Communications and postings right here at www.mooseintl.org. Finally, we are inviting all members to make your voice heard by visiting www.onemoose.org and participating in our One Moose straw poll, as well as provid- ing us with any thoughts you may have about this process and our future. we are in the season of Thanksgiving, please know that your hard work, effort and positive attitude are very much appreciated. As Moose, we are doing good every day, striving to better the lives of our children at Mooseheart, our seniors at Moosehaven and those in need within our communities….knowing that the best is yet to come! As May you keep our purpose close to your heart and our vision for the day when we are One Moose on your horizon. We are……….One Moose! Scott D Heart - Director General 8
Sara Held 2019 - 2020 WV WOTM DGR Sports & Activities Chairman Hello and Season Greetings to my beloved WV Moose family. It is an amazing honor to have been selected to serve as WV’s Deputy Grand Regent during the 2019-2020 term of office. Sin- cere thanks for the overwhelming amount of support I have received thus far from our WV Moose family. I cannot wait to see all of you in April. Congratulations to Carla Wisman for her appointment as President of the International Star Recorder Board. In addition, I congratulate Bonita Belcher for a wonderful job serving as our WV Deputy Grand Regent in 2018-2019. Bonita you will be a hard act to follow and I hope I can prove my worthiness for this amazing opportunity. In the meantime, I cannot stress enough how important it is that we all embrace our current theme “Create Our Future” as we see Lodg- es and Chapters closing all around us. We must make every possible effort to ensure continued support for our beloved twin cities. As I always remind our co-workers while serving as their Sports & Activities Chairman, plan as many fun, interesting, and varied activities that your members will not want to miss a meeting or event! I have had to miss many opportunities to visit other Lodges and Chapters, as I had planned, because of multiple family health problems. I pray that I may soon be able to visit with as many of you as possible. One event that I was able to attend was the District IV meeting/Legend weekend in Barboursville. We had a blast! Great food, live music and amazing hospitality were enjoyed by all! Please Check out WV WOTM Sports & Activities@facebook.com to see the various activities happening around our WV Moose Lodges and Chapters. I hope that you all have an amazing and blessed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year! Fra- ternally yours with Love, Sarah Held, DGR 9

HIGHER DEGREES While the 2019 International Convention is over it was Moose Legionnaires that paved the you give to it. You each gave both. Today’s society is replete with many superficial awards and recognition. Those who volunteered during the International Convention are well aware of the service they pro- vided and you did so willingly. That to me is truly being a Moose Legionnaire and liv- ing up to our motto of, “Doing some good for someone each day.” Virtue may be its own reward, but I believe that virtuosity deserves a more concrete and tangible form of recognition. While saluting those volunteers, we do more than merely honor them; we appreciate them. They helped to set standards for emulation from this time forth. Thanks to all of our volunteers for helping us as work shoulder to shoulder and contin- ue to “Create Our Future.” Fraternally, Walt Zurowski, PIP way and helped to make the Moose Legion booth a success. It is times like this that makes us all proud of our fraternity and the Moose Legion. It has been said it is more blessed to give than receive. Those Moose Legionnaires that volunteered their time must really be blessed, for you have given so much. What you have done is so gratifying and so greatly appreciated. Thank you very, very much. Many who visited our booth including Presidents, Secretaries and Area Managers were not only impressed with the literature available, but also the knowledge and as- sistance of those manning the booth as well. There were also many others who under- stood the importance of your work, by offering the information and giving of your time to serve. Thanks to all who paid us a visit! Nothing can compare with the gift of really caring. There are two ways of showing you care for a particular cause. One is the amount of work you do for it; the other is the amount of substance ACTIVITIES AND SPORTS Kenny Simons Hello fellow Moose members it's a great honor to be your new sports/activities chair- man. The West Virginia Moose Association will be having our state Karaoke competi- tion in Morgantown at this years state convention. The contest will be held Friday night April the 3rd 2020. St. Albans Moose Lodge Beginning in September, the Saint Albans Moose Lodge started a new Veteran's Program called Vet- eran's of Value as part of the Moose Organizations, Valued Veteran's. We are arranging to pay any utility bill, for ex: gas, electric, water, and sewage up to $200. During our monthly Veteran's Breakfast held on the third Saturday of the month, we invite each and every veteran to place their name and phone number on a ticket. These tickets are then dropped in a bucket and at the end of the Veteran's Breakfast, one ticket is drawn. Our administrator, Eugene Huffman then pulls out the winning ticket and calls the winning veteran to inform them that they won if they have already left. The Veteran then brings in their bill that they wish to have paid, and we take care of paying it. How- ever, if the Veteran has their bills automatically taken from their bank account, Eugene requests proof of payment and bill then writes them a check for that amount. While we have the option of removing these funds from our raffle account, we also do fundraising events to help support this program. Simple 40 Board raffles, 50/50s, and the upcoming Chinese Auction all help to raise the necessary fund to help our local veterans. The Chinese Auction is to be held on December 1st, if you are interested in learning more about this program or attending, please contact our lodge via email at lodge868@mooseunits.org or call 304-727-7052. Brian Harper Governor. YOUTH AWARENESS Jenny Lambert WOTM Youth Awareness Coordinator Hope everyone enjoyed the summer, and had lots of fun with family and friends. The Moose Youth Awareness program has a bright future. Through Moose Kids Talk presentations our participants can educate the youth of their communities to make wise decisions. They can also motivate and inspire them. In fact the voice of those students that have attended Youth Awareness Congresses have reached an audience of more than 70,000 in the past 25 years. The 2019 - 2020 Youth Awareness training classes are finished. The Students are now out in the community giving their Kid Talks to 4 - 9 year old's. The Kid Talks are to be completed by February 2020, and the reports should be turned in to the state coordinator by February 28, 2020. Kid talk report forms will be judged by a group of their peers, and winners will be chosen. winners will be announced at the mid-year convention in April at Morgantown WV. the first place winner will have the opportunity to represent West Virginia at the International Youth Awareness Con- gress in New Jersey in April, 2020. Hope we have another International winner again in 2020. Virginia Lambert Youth Awareness Coordinator 12

The new Centennial Hall building at Moosehaven looks lovely at night! NEWS FROM DISTRICT PRESIDENTS Richard Findlay District 1 President First and foremost I would like to thank all for allowing me the privilege of being district 1 presi- dent. I will do everything I can to serve to the best of my ability to make our district better. I would to see lodges in district one work on member retention. How can we sign members and expect them to stay if we can not keep members who have been members for a number of years and all of a sudden decide not to renew their dues for some reason. Retention committee or officers need to find out why and correct the problem if their is one, if we want to see our lodges grow. Thanks to all lodges in district one for selling your 12 week tickets. Hope we can have some winners. Hope all have a good holiday season and all lodges have a prosperous new year. Looking forward to seeing everyone at Lakeview in March God bless Mooseheart and Mooseheaven Richard Findlay District one President 17
Barry Wood District 4 President I would like to thank all the lodges for selling tickets on the Ruger .45 to be given away Nov. 17 2019 at our next District Meting in Charleston. The winner will be called on the same day. I’m not a big fan of per diem to be charged to lodges. This fund raiser will generate money to help us and if you have any other ideas we will be glad to talk about them at District Meetings. Karaoke will be back and District 4 will participate. We will announce it in the upcoming meeting. Your lodge should have their competition by the end of the year, and we will let you know where the District level competition will be. The 12 week club drawing has started and if you have any last minute tickets to turn in get them to Danny Williams ASAP. These drawings are im- portant to participate in to help cover costs for upcoming conventions and your support is vital to insure success for upcoming events. Membership is down overall and we all know that to make a comeback there has to be an effort by all of our members. Bring a friend to the moose and show them what they are missing out on. With the holidays coming fast, be safe and help volunteer at the lodge. See You AT The Moose Barry Wood Dickey Foster and Carla Wisman Doing their Moose community service for the Salvation Army. 18

On April 27, 2019, Charles Town Moose Lodge #948 cel- ebrated its 75th Anniversary. A committee of 3 men and 3 women worked diligently for approximately 12 weeks to make this evening a night to remember! The venue was beautifully decorated with the focal point being a beautiful ice sculpture surround- ed by faux diamonds and flowers. The evening festivities began with an Enrollment Cere- mony performed by the Ritual Staff. The Lodge then recognized 60 year members individual- ly then proceeded to call in groups 50 year members, 40 years members etc, until everyone was standing. At that time, Everyone was recognized for their continued sup- port and dedication to Lodge#948. Lodge and Chapter Officers were introduced which led to the presentation of donations. In total, $23,000 was given to local charities, first responders, Mooseheart and Moosehaven. There were over 300 guest in attendance which included Lodge 948 members and Moose dignitaries from the state and international level. The evening was capped off with a wonderful meal and concluded with entertainment by The Dean Crawford band. After 75 years of existence, we have learned many things, but most importantly that it takes teamwork, common goals and the support of all our officers and members to be successful. Our goal, like many others, is to support our community and ultimately support the children at Mooseheart and the seniors at Moosehaven. This day of celebration showed not only the com- mitment our lodge has for our goals but also the commitment our members have towards their lodge! #WVStrong 24
