Places to Visit near Kullu & Manali 1. Nehru Kund- A small spring of cold mountain water named Manali To Rohtang after late Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru and 6 Kms from Manali. (Route -1) 2. Kothi- A quite but picturesque spot at the foot of Rohtang pass and 15 Kms from Manali. 3. Gulaba Camp- A place known for flowers and its natural beauty, a must stay for every tourist. 4. Rahala fall- 27 Kms from Manali, located at the base of the Rohtang pass. It’s a small natural fall. 5. Marhi- It’s the last stop before rohtang pass. Places to Visit near Kullu & Manali Manali to Manikaran (Route-2) 1. Vaishno Temple- a small carve and shrine with an image of goddess Vaishno Devi, temples for lord Shive and Rama are also located in the surrounding. This is located on the way from Manali to Manikaran. 2. Places to Visit near Kullu & Manali 1. Hadimba Temple - Built in Manali Local Tour 1553 AD. With a four tiered pagoda shaped roof and a front doorway, superbly crafted and (Route-3)(within 5kms manali’s radius ) carved with figund symbols. The temple is dedicated to Hadimba Devi. This temple is located amidst lush green and thick whispering forest of Dhungri. Its just 2 Kms from Manali. 2. Tibetan Monasteries- There are two Tibetan monasteries in Manali , both located within the town. A must visit if you want to Tibetan Monasteries have a taste of Buddhist culture. 3. Recreation Activities Rafting White Water river- rafting facilities are offered by private operators at Pirdi near Kullu where a water sports centre has been set up to provide one stop water sports adventure solutions for the tourist. Rafting on stretches of the River Beas, where rapids of high grades can be negotiated, provides an exhilarating interlude fro enthusiasts. Raison camping site kayaking is possible at Pandoh Dam on the way to Mandi. White water rafting in Kullu valley is done on river Beas from Pirdi (4 kms ahead of Kullu town) down to Jhiri, a stretch of approximately 14 kms. (Period Apr 15th-Jun end). The journey takes nearly one & half hour consisting of rapids from grade II & III. Rafting begins at around 10 o' clock in the morning at Pirdi. Pirdi is 45 kms from Manali Pirdi Kullu and hence, recommended starting time from Manali is 8 o'clock. This activity will require one full day. Manali Paragliding Manali Paragliding Riding the thermals and sailing the blue sky like the Himalyan Eagle can be thrilling experience. Paragliding facilities are available at Solang Nallah and Marhi. Tourist are advised to undertake the sport only through the operators who are registered with the Tourism Department. Also insist on the pilot showing you his registration license issued by the District Administration. Paragliding is organized in Kullu valley throughout the year at Solang Valley, Paragliding located 14 kms from Manali and other locations like Marhi, Fatru, Bijli Mahadev etc. There are generally two kind of flights: 1. Short flights : The client is taken 100 - 150 mts up the slope and takes a flight along with the pilot in the two seater paraglider. The flight lasts for approximately 60 - 90 seconds. 2. Manali Festivals Winter Carnival is the famous festival of Winter Carnival Manali and is celebrated during winters that you can guess by its name. The programs start in night and people gather there since morning to reserve their seats and those who are not able to get a seat climb trees or wall to get a glimpse of the artists Manali Winter Carnival Hadimba Temple Manali: This temple, with a finely wrought four - tiered pagoda roof, dating back to 1553, is built around a Hadimba Temple Fair natural cave, which enshrines the footprints of the goddess Hadimba. She was the wife of Bhima, one of the five great Pandava brothers of the Mahabharata, and later became the patron goddess of the Kullu royal family. Hadimba or Dhungiri temple in Manali is one of the most important temples in the region. This four story wooden temple is located in the middle of a forest called the Dhungiri Van Vihar. From the name of the forest parkland this temple derives its name. This temple was erected in 1553 and is dedicated to Goddess Hadimba. The temple has some intricate wooden carvings which depicts mythological characters and motifs of animals & cosmic dancers. Every year in May a major festival is organized here. Kullu Dussehra Kullu Dussehra is the festival observed in the month of October in Himachal Pradesh state in northern India. It is celebrated in the Dhalpur maidan in the Kullu valley. Dussehra at Kullu commences on the tenth day of the rising moon, i.e. on 'Vijay Dashmi' day itself and continues for seven days. Its history dates back to the 17th century when local King Jagat Singh installed an idol of Raghunath on his throne as a mark of penance. After this, god Raghunath was declared as the ruling deity of the Valley. The State government has accorded the status of International festival to the Kullu Dussehra, which attracts tourists in large numbers. Dhalpur Maidan Kullu Climate Whether Conditions The climate in Manali is predominantly cold during winters, and moderately cool during summers. The temperatures range from4 °C (39 °F) to 30 °C (86 °F) over the year. The average temperature during summer is between 14 °C (57 °F) and 20 °C (68 °F), and between −7 °C (19 °F) and 10 °C (50 °F) in the winter. Monthly precipitation varies between 31 mm (1.2 in) in November to 217 mm (8.5 in) in July. In average, some 45 mm (1.8 in) of precipitation is received during winter and spring months, increasing to some 115 mm (4.5 in) in summer as the monsoon approaches. The average total annual precipitation is 1,363 mm (53.7 in). Snowfall in the region, which usually took place in the month of December, has been delayed over the last fifteen years to January or early February. Traditional Dresses Pattu is the traditional dress of the local women. This woolen fabric is woven in different colors and designs. It is thicker and heavier than shawl and the colors used are fast and bright. Women wear pattu over their clothes. They pin both ends of it with local silver broaches called 'bumni', joined with a long ornamental chain. It covers the whole body. A piece of cloth called gachchi (belt) is tied around the waist. Basically women of Kullu use pattu as their daily wear. The cost of a pattu depends upon the design, color combination and quality of Pattu wool. The Kullu caps bear several patterns of designs on either side. The smooth and soft quality and the harmonious blend of colors impart a royal look to the Kullu cap. The Kullu cap is an integral part of the indigenous traditional handicraft and handloom industry of the region. Most of the local craftsmen of the several handicraft and handloom industry of Himachal Pradesh are adept in weaving the Kullu caps. Kullu caps Kullu shawls have geometrical designs on both ends. The designs on these shawls vary from simple to most intricate. Depending on the intricacy of design, cost also varies and a wide range of such shawls are available with us. Usually mill spun pure merino wool yarn is used as warp and weft. Each shawl reflects ethnicity and the culture of Kullu. These shawls are very warm and are available in both bright and soft color combinations. Besides geometrical designs, Kullu Shawls floral designs are also made, which may run all over, on the corners or on the borders.
