 Helpful Skating Hints
Although our spectator area is heated, you’ll want to dress warmly when you come
to ice skate. Snow pants, gloves and helmets are recommended. It is always better
to dress in layers so you may take off a layer or two as needed.
Selecting the proper skate size is very important. Skates should be approximately
one-half size smaller than your shoe size. Skates should be snug but not so tight
that they are uncomfortable. You should be able to wiggle your toes. Lace the
skates tightly, starting at the bottom and lacing to the top, not skipping any eyelets.

The Hommocks Park Ice Rink offers Learn to Skate classes
that are designed to teach the fundamentals of skating in a
fun environment!

The Hommocks Skating School is now offering The Learn
to Skate, USA classes. This program is based on consistent
and well-defined levels of achievement that have been proven
to guide a skater from basic beginner maneuvers through
significantly more advanced and even competitive skill sets.
Group lessons are available for beginner through advanced levels for ages 4
through adult. See page (10) for an explanation of Learn to Skate Levels &
Elements.
Classes are offered Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays.
Each session is 5 weekly (30) minute classes.
Membership to Learn to Skate, USA is included with program fee.
Please note: There are certain skating levels that are difficult and may take a
skater more than one session to complete. All students will be tested on the
fourth week of each session to determine their skating level.
