INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION 60TH ANNIVERSARY - QUÉBEC GOVERNMENT OFFICE IN LONDON Since the quiet revolution, Québec has come of age. Asserting itself internationally has provided many opportunities, and turned Québec into a major player on the world stage. With that in mind, this year marks 60 years since Premier Jean Lesage inaugurated the Québec Government Office in London, to deepen political, cultural and economic links between Québec, the UK, Ireland and the Nordic countries. On top of that, we mark the 30th anniversary of Colin Hicks becoming the first Director for Culture at the office, opening a service that has helped Québec artists shine on the world stage. Over the course of its thirty-year existence, it has supported ambitious artists and groups such as Céline Dion, Le Cirque du Soleil, Robert Lepage, Le Vent du Nord, Joséphine Bacon, MUTEK and Moment Factory to showcase their individual talents and what Québec culture as a whole has to offer. The UK, Ireland and the Nordic countries constitute an important market for Québec artists and companies, with major events such as the Edinburgh Festivals hosting a lot of our talent over the years. Over three decades, the Cultural service at the Québec Government Office in London has developed a remarkable network with key players in the culture sector across its territory. DANCE TENTACLE TRIBE @ BIRMINGHAM INTERNATIONAL DANCE FESTIVAL 22 Ghost June 24th Patrick Studio at Birmingham Hippodrome In this new work, the free-spirited pair - Emmanuelle LêPhan, based in Québec City, and Elon Höglund, based in Montréal - combine elements of contemporary dance, street dance and martial arts in a physical score that echoes the subtle pulse of respiration. Inhalations and exhalations sculpt the group’s gestures and movements. The interconnected bodies form striking human structures that shift, alter, evolve in synergy with the music. The invigorating power of the breath and its circulation in the organism is embodied and magnified by the energetic, almost architectural dance. From technical feats to dreamlike sequences, Ghost is a welcome breath of air. © Elias Djemi-Mattassov fi Vanessa Fortin bidf.co.uk n tentacletribe.com n belsherartsmanagement.com/tentacle-tribe-agent Tentacle Tribe © 12 13 13
