EO4Infrastruture (EO4I): Demonstrating in-situ and space-based EO support for infrastructure management Objective: to contribute to the reduction of the existing gaps in the infrastructure management sector by demonstrating that EO data, combined with in-situ data as well as other EO derived products e.g. the ones produced by the Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (CLMS) in particular the European Ground Motion Service (EGMS) can provide a real benefit to End Users. WorldPeatland • ESA’s contribution to the international Global Peatland Initiative (GPI); • Project objective is to prototype an improved mapping and monitoring of intact, degraded and cultivated peatlands for conservation, management and restoration in the tropics; • User organisations: UNEP, Greifswald Mire Centre, CIFOR, ITT issue: Q4 / 2020 RAMSAR convention, UNFCCC, Wetlands International, FAO, Kick-Off: Early 2021 Indonesian Peatland Restoration Agency (BRG), Ministries Budget: € 500,000 of Environment from DRC, Rep. of Congo and Peru; Duration: 1.5 years ESA UNCLASSIFIED - For Official Use www.globalpeatlands.org
EO Applications Project World Emission • The project prepares the ground for a long-term exploitation of atmospheric emissions data by large user communities • KO: Q4/2020, Duration: 24 months; Budget: 1 MEUR • Specific objectives include: • Assessment of methane (CH4) emissions from major anthropogenic sources; • Development of top-down estimates from satellite CH4; • Development of emission estimates for Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) • Assessment of ammonia (NH3) release related to agricultural; • Investigation of high resolution measurements of water vapour (H2O); • Assessment of high nitrogen dioxide (NO2) release from point sources; • Assessment of high resolution measurements of NO2 and SO2 in combination with CO2; • Development of CO2 emission estimates in tropical regions; • Improvement of aerosol emissions from existing; • Investigation on methanol emission; • Assessment of estimates of carbonaceous aerosols, black carbon, CO and CO2 emissions from biomass burning. Training & Education: COVID Impact All training activities have been cancelled or postpone (e.g., EO Summer school 2020). In addition, a EO education platform will be supported building upon existing European capacities and on-line education platform initiatives.
