This month’s Public Health challenge is to share what would help you to live a healthier and happier life by completing the
Our Health, Our Future survey

Health and care organisations across Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire are putting a plan together to make
sure you and your loved ones are able to get the support you need to live well. They want to make sure that you can easily find
and use local health and care services, and that these services will support you to stay healthy and happy now and in the future.
Help to shape the future of local health and care services by taking part in our short survey. Visit our campaign website for more
information, or email ourhealth.ourfuture@nhs.net or call 03333 219464 to request a paper copy of the survey.

Please help spread the word about the campaign amongst work colleagues, at events or meetings and with family and friends. We
can provide Polish, Arabic and Easy Read versions of the survey and a session plan if you would like to lead a group activity about
the campaign.

Bathscape
Bathscape’s mission is to raise awareness and understanding of the beautiful countryside surrounding the city of Bath, to help
restore it and ensure its enjoyment for generations to come. We connect people in Bath with the rural landscape around them.
Part of our vision is that a greater and more diverse number of people will access and actively enjoy that landscape. Please click
here for more information on the Bathscape Scheme.

One of our projects is a social prescribing project, based in Twerton. We are running Feelgood walks on Tuesdays at 2pm with
Timebank plus and Natural Pathways (Nature and Wellbeing practical volunteering) at Bath City Farm, with Avon Wildlife Trust.
Both activities are for people referred by the GPs in Twerton, via Myscript, via other healthcare professionals, or who self-refer.
For more information, contact Lucy Bartlett (lucy.bartlett@bathscape.co.uk) 01225 477265.

Farm visits seasonal safety reminder
Days out at farms are an enjoyable and educational experience for many people. However, animals can carry a number of
infections that may be harmful to humans, especially children and pregnant women. Guidance for the public is available on the
PHE website (Farm visits: avoiding infection). Resources are available for educators through Access to Farms. Those opening
their farms to visitors should consult the Industry Code of Practice and put the necessary control measures in place (including
displaying signs to remind visitors to wash their hands with soap and water and ensuring appropriate facilities are in place).
Tick Awareness
Summer is a great time to be outside, but don’t forget to be ‘tick aware’. Ticks are small members of the spider family that feed on
blood. They can transmit bacteria that cause diseases such as Lyme Disease. Tick activity increases in spring and peaks between
April and June and this is when tick bite risk is highest. We’re encouraging residents and visitors to become ‘tick aware’ to continue
enjoying outdoor activities with the knowledge and confidence of how to manage ticks should they come into contact with them.

The key messages are:

1. Know what ticks look like, where they can be found, and practise prevention behaviours to help avoid tick bites.
2. Check your clothes and body regularly for ticks when outdoors and when you return home.
3. Remove ticks as soon as possible with fine tipped tweezers or a tick removal tool. Once removed apply antiseptic to the bite
area and keep an eye on it for any changes.
Further information about ticks can be found on the Council’s Public Health webpages and a locally produced poster and leaflet
can also be downloaded from this site: http://www.bathnes.gov.uk/services/public-health/latest-health-messages/tick-awareness If
you would like further supplies of the tick awareness posters and/or leaflets please contact Mo Manasievski email:

www.safebanes.com is for young people who live in Bath and North East Somerset and provides advice on relationships, sexual
health and sexual wellbeing. It has been fully redesigned in collaboration with local young people.

On the website you can find information and advice on free condoms (C Card); contraception; emergency contraception; sexually
transmitted infections (STIs); pregnancy; sexual and gender identity; and relationships and sexual abuse.

You can also find all the services that you can access across Bath and North East Somerset including those in Bath, Keynsham,

SAFE stands for ‘Sexual Health For Everyone’, and is a quality standard offered to all organisations who provide sexual health
advice and information to young people aged 13 to 24.

Any service showing the SAFE logo shows that services are young person friendly. That means they have to be:

 Provide up to date information and resources on a range of sexual health and relationship issues for all young people
 Confidential
 Friendly, welcoming and comfortable places for young people to be
 Encouraging and supportive of opportunities for young people to help services to continue to improve and develop, in both
what services are provided and how they are provided

www.safebanes.com also has a professionals-only section that includes a range of helpful and useful resources that professionals
can use to support and help young people with their sexual health. To access this section please email
