INTRODUCTION

The Aces Youth Soccer Academy (AYSA) is a sport and academic development institution
for boys and girls aged between 10 and 18. AYSA is the football development arm of the
Aces Youth Sport & Soccer Foundation Trust (AYSSF). Since its establishment on February
2001, the Academy has provided social development support for Zimbabwe’s
disadvantaged children through sport and academic education. Without AYSA’s
intervention, many would end up on the streets and inevitably fall victim to drugs, crime
and HIV/AIDS.

Sport: A Vehicle for Promoting Youth Development

Developing countries, in general, have very limited resources, and therefore cannot support
critical social development programmes. In Zimbabwe today, this scarcity is exacerbated by
HIV/AIDS that has consumed a large share of the nation's human and financial resources,
leaving - in its wake - a sad tale of young orphans, single parent homes, and extreme poverty.
Without interventions such as the Academy, many of the children would be destined into a life
of dependency

Vision

AYSA is a youth development trailblazer, offering dynamic world-leading sports
programmes and providing critical academic, nutritional, medical, and social support
systems; to mould young men and women of character - future leaders.

The Academy’s founders, Nigel Munyati and Marc Duvillard, are accomplished soccer
players and administrators who share passion for helping develop the youth, which led to a
common vision of a Youth Soccer Academy that they have made real. The Academy's
success is anchored on a philosophy that recognises the critical importance of achieving a
balance between player physiological, technical, intellectual, and psychological
development.

Mission

AYSA’s mission is to establish an institution that is a home and place of excellence for
Zimbabwe’s youth. This is being achieved by providing physical, intellectual, vocational,
and emotional development. Specifically, the primary assignment of the Academy is to
nurture 12 to 18 year old boys and girls such that they achieve their dreams of becoming
successful Football players, coaches, and administrators.

Objectives

AYSA’s fundamental thrust is the aspiration to empower Zimbabwe's youth such that they
become productive participants in the country’s sustainable economic and social
development. Our grand objective is to use sport as a capacity building tool and rescue
young boys and girls from the poverty trap by:

 Providing the essential tools of life: nutrition, health, education (academic and
vocational), shelter, talent development, and mentorship.

 Developing the Academy into a world-class institute of excellence, and this will
be achieved by developing an integrated sports training, residential, and
          educational facility in Harare South.

 Scouting youth talent from throughout Zimbabwe.

 Placing Academy graduates with in professional sport organisations and higher
education institutions (in Zimbabwe and abroad), and appropriate employment.

AYSA Values

Our values are derived from an unwavering commitment to developing young boys and
girls into men and women of substance. We therefore lead by example commit ourselves to
the following set of beliefs that we cherish and embrace:

Innovation Nurturing Team Work Discipline Endeavour

               Excellence Integrity Responsibility Inspiration Athleticism

Each AYSA player is issued a Student Handbook that educates and informs them of the
Academy's culture, policies, and code of conduct.

PROGRAMMES

AYSA is proud to have built the solid foundation for a dynamic and sustainable world-class
football development institution. The enrolment of 68 boys and girls spend six to seven
years at the Academy.

Since inception, AYSA has provided critical social development intervention; paying for
school fees, books, uniforms, and providing supplementary tuition support for
approximately 373 players.

Football

The Academy runs Football-coaching programmes in three age groups: U-13, U-15, U-17,
and U-19 Boys, and U15 Girls teams.

Education

Since 2001 the Academy has enrolled the players at various High Schools around Harare,
paying school fees and providing the necessary school materials. AYSA also provides life
skills training for post high school players, in the form of Conversational English and ICT
classes.

The long-term goal is to run our own school.

Life Skills Coaching

As most of the students are from socio-economically deprived family backgrounds, many
have not had the benefit of growing up in the nurturing ‘normal’ family environment with
love, advice, and guidance from the immediate and extended families. AYSA's Welfare
Manager provides Life Skills counselling for the players, and regularly invites professionals
(medical, physiotherapy, police, IOM staff, AYSA alumni and retired professional players to
give talks.)

Through a process of observation, direct personal interviews, and feedback from
management, the Welfare Manager ensures that the Academy is aware of as much of the
issues impacting each player's psychological and social development status. This also
PROSPECTUS - Sport en Commun
Includes visits to players' home to interact with parents and get a general appreciation of
the home environment - a critical component of their make-up.

Nutrition

Nutrition is critical to player development, and at times could be the difference between a
player being ordinary and exceptional. The Academy thus ensures that the 20 senior boys
resident at the Clubhouse receive full board with 3 meals a day.

Health

Each student entering the Clubhouse residency undergoes a medical check-up, and this is
repeated at the beginning of each year to ensure that they are in good health. Body weight
and height are measured regularly, and progress is tracked to ensure that they achieve
optimum growth.

AYSA endeavours to keep players physically sound to perform at the highest level possible
levels, and ensures the services of a qualified physiotherapist to attend to player injuries
and other preventive support.

Accommodation

The AYSA Clubhouse is situated in Parktown, Waterfalls, Harare. Thanks to funding support
from the Embassy of Switzerland it was renovated to create more space. The dormitory and
main house have a capacity for 30 beds, ablutions, a lounge and Kit Room.
