PROSPECTUS 2021 / Kohima College, Kohima From e Principal Welcome to Kohima College Kohima, a two time NAAC Accredited institution established th on the 9 of August 1967, which over the years has unfolded into an institution of glorious pasts and one with a great future. Deemed as one of the oldest and inest within the State, the college offered a three year Semester System Bachelors program in Arts and Commerce stream, Honours and Pass course with a vast array of optional subjects. The college has a team of experienced, highly quali ied, dynamic and multi-talented faculty imparting an all round education of physical, mental, social and emotional and intellectual development. The college also cares for the individual development of each and every student for which we have put in place a mentoring system as one of our best practices , which ensures that individual students get maximum support through continuous quality monitoring with an emphasis on students' welfare, various committees have been constituted to enrich academic, extra-curricular standards, leadership quality and life skills needed for our students' self- development, thus making this college a vibrant place to explore and learn. PROSPECTUS 2021 / Kohima College, Kohima 1 College Prole Kohima college, a premier educational institution in the state of Nagaland, located in the scenic hillock of Kruoliezou, was established on the 9th of August 1967. The college holds the distinction of being the irst private college offering higher education in Arts Stream for the irst time in Kohima. It is af iliated to Nagaland University and offers three year Graduate Degree course in a multitude of Humanities programs. The Commerce stream was successfully introduced in 2016. The government of Nagaland took over Kohima College with effect from 1st February 2006. It may be mentioned that Kruoliezou, where the college is presently located, is one of the fastest developing sectors in Kohima Town. The present campus covers a total ares of 28.27 acres; the college has a three-storied building constituting three blocks with 17 classrooms, 1 Language Laboratory, 1 seminar Hall and an Auditorium. The college has a digitalized Library with internet and wi i- facility and also a Book Bank funded by the University Grants Commission. Kohima College has successfully completed two cycles of assessment (2012 and 2017) by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Bengaluru and graded B and B+ respectively. The college with its motto 'Search for Excellence' aspires not only to promote quality education but also to inculcate an awareness of fair play, honesty and integrity among the students, motivating them to lead bold, engaged and transformed lives that will add value to our shared community.

The minimum duration of this course, is 3 years spread over 6 semesters and a maximum of 5 years (10 semesters) The college offers honours in eight subjects. Procedure for admission Application Form for admission along with the College Prospectus can be obtained from the college of ice/ Website-www.kohimacollege.ac.in, for a payment of Rs 200. Each duly illed in Application Form must be submitted along with an attested photocopy of a. Admit card and Marksheet of the last examination b. Passport photo. c. SC/ST/PWD/OBC certi icates d. Original Registration Card (NU) for repeaters Admission Policy Admission to Kohima College will follow the principles of the formula devised by the the Department of Higher Education 2019. The Formula will be reviewed after a period of 3 (three) years CATEGORIES CRITERIA Percentage Category A To adopt 1st and 2nd list for giving admission to students passing HSSLC from Government Higher Secondary Schools under Kohima District. 1st list Priority to be given to students belonging to Indigeneous Inhabitants passing HSSLC from Government Higher 30% Secondary Schools under Kohima District. 2nd list Priority to be given to students belonging to all categories passing HSSLC from Government Higher Secondary Schools 20% under Kohima District Category B Priority to be given to students of all categories passing HSSLC from Private Higher Secondary Schools under 30% Kohima District Category C Open to all (5 seats reserved for PWDs). 20%
PROSPECTUS 2021 / Kohima College, Kohima 5 Hostel Rules 1. Hostellers are required to attend classes regularly. No one is allowed to be in the hostel during class hours. 2. Hostellers going out during the day must fill in the details in the day—out register. It is also mandatory to sign while returning. 3. Hostel|ers must be in the hostel positively by 5:30 pm summer and 5:00 pm winter. Not adhering to these rules may lead to expulsion from the hostel which would automatically mean expulsion from the college. 4. Leave can be availed during weekends with the permission at the warden. However it must be applied for in advance. Request for leave through telephone will not be entertained under any circumstances. 5. Electrical appliances Iron, heaters, immersion rod, electric kettle etc. are not allowed. 6. Hostellers must be present during attendance time in the evening which will be token daily by the warden or prefect. 7. Hostellers must be in their respective rooms by 7:00 pm. 8. Hostellers indulging in drinking, smoking, drugs, or any other immoral activities shall be summarily expelled. 9. The warden reserves the right to check the hostel rooms every now and then. l0. Male visitors are not allowed inside the girls rooms. However, hostellers can meet visitors in the foyer. 11. Any rules can be added/altered at the discretion at the Principal or Warden. Canteen – The college has two canteens that cater to the needs of the staff and students with clean and hygienic food Safe drinking water facility- Clean drinking water ilters have been placed in every loor for the students and staff. There is also a Smart Water Dispenser in the campus.
8 PROSPECTUS 2021 / Kohima College, Kohima Quality Monitoring Internal Quality Assurance Cell The IQAC coordinates with all other cells set up to ensure quality benchmark in all aspects of the college. It is instrumental in planning and monitoring quality assurance and quality enhancement of the college in its strive towards academic excellence. Admission Committee The admission committee headed by the principal, Vice-principal and HoDs monitors the overall admission process, whose decision on these issues is inal and binding. Internal Evaluation Assessment of the students is done through tests, assignments, project works, seminars, peer teaching, the outcome of which is used as a basis for identifying and providing extra care to slow learners through remedial classes. Attendance Attendance percentage of every student is monitored monthly. Parents/ guardians of students performing poorly and failing to get the University prescribed 75% in class attendance are called by the principal to ascertain the reason for irregularity. Mentoring, Students Counseling and Career Guidance Cell To make the students academically and socially integrated, this cell plans out a systematic mentoring program every year to encourage and assure that every student has a faculty (mentor) to fall back on or consult in time of need. It also organizes seminars on mental health from time to time, career oriented programs/ interactions with professionals for the inal year students to keep them abreast with up-to-date employment trends and options and to help strengthen their decision making skills.
PROSPECTUS 2021 / Kohima College, Kohima 9 General Norms 1. Use of Mobile phones/Music players etc. are strictly banned inside the classroom and during Examinations 2. Dress Code for students a. In full uniform on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and all College functions and examination days. b. In traditional attire (at least one item) every Wednesday c. Decent dress on non-uniform days. Wearing torn jeans and sandals are discouraged. 3. Short hair is mandatory for male students during the course of study in the college 4. Use of tobacco products, alcohol, gambling, and substance abuse, engaging in any forms of harassment, sexual misconduct, damaging or misusing college property is strictly prohibited. Such acts will be liable for action-including immediate expulsion of the student(s) from the college or hostel as deemed it by the college authority. 5. Any form of discrimination towards fellow college mates on the basis of tribe, caste, religion etc. shall be dealt with seriously 6. Students must participate in all of icial activities of the college such as social gatherings, social work, games and sports events etc. Fines will be imposed on the absentees. 7. Students should visit the college library regularly for collection of materials and keep themselves updated 8. Tribal organizations within the college are not recognised. Kohima College Students Council(KCSC) is the only recognized student body in the college. Departmental/group excursion, tour and fund raise activities etc. are banned/ not allowed 9. To qualify as a member in the Kohima College Students Council, one must clear all semester examinations and attain the required attendance percentage. 10. Students must make concerted effort/s to keep their classrooms and surroundings clean. 11. Students should check College notice Board regularly 12. Students are expected to read and become familiarize with the contents of the Students' Handbook given to them on joining college.

The selection to honours will be done on merit basis, according to the seat capacity. If both preference for honours is unavailable, the student will be allowed to pursue Pass course only. 2. Students are not allowed to change subject combination after the 1st semester examination. 3. Change of Honours/ transfer/ backlogs shall follow University guidelines 4. Students will not be allowed to opt for Functional English and Elective Tenyidie simultaneously. 5. Students must compulsorily perform 3 (three) activities such as tests, assignment writings, paper presentations ,projects etc for Internal Assessment 6. Students must pass in all subjects to qualify for End Term Examinations 7. Attendance of 75% is the criteria to write the end Semester Examination

16 PROSPECTUS 2021 / Kohima College, Kohima Extra-curricular and extension activities Kohima college seeks to produce well rounded and versatile students. Recognising that each student has different talents, the college views extra-curricular activities as a means of providing opportunities for students to develop their abilities in various endeavours. The college has a number of extension activities to promote participation of the students and teachers in social and community concerns. 1. Students Welfare Committee- The committee is responsible for the overall supervision of the Kohima College Student's Council, which is the only recognized students' body of Kohima College. It oversees the day to day activities of the student community by assisting them through suggestions and advice whenever required. . It also engages the students in community services. Above all, it monitors every decision that is taken by the student's council 2. E.U, NCC, NSS, Red Ribbon Club, Red Cross, Skill Development, Legal Aid Clinic, Friends of Nature Club, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan - The students are encouraged to participate in these different cells which represents the full diversity of students' needs and interests, at the same time promotes personality and leadership developments in the students. 3. Grievance Cell – This cell was set up to address problems and complaints of the students regarding academic matters and other issues with regard to student's welfare through the college authorities. Suggestion boxes are placed in the college through which the students express their suggestions and grievances 4. Alumni Association- Formed on 29th of August 2011, the Association facilitates reunion of all its past pupils to establish a sense of belongingness among the ex-students. The Alumni Association is a platform for the Alumni to voice their expert and experience views and provide an avenue for their active participation in the development of the institution. The association's purpose is to be a strong and dependable pillar for the college to mentor and generate sincere, committed participation of all, in all its developmental activities. 5. Anti Raging/Anti discriminatory Cell- This cell is empowered to take disciplinary action against any student(s), indulging in ragging, rowdy or indiscipline activities, discriminating on the basis of race, sex, religion, disability etc. which causes or likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or fear thereof in any fresher or any other student. 6. Anti Sexual Harassment Cell- As per UGC, NAAC and Supreme Court guidelines, Kohima College has constituted this cell within the college premises with the core objective to create a safe, healthy and congenial academic environment for both staff and students alike, free from gender based discrimination and sexual harassment. It organizes gender sensitization programs/redresses any complaints of sexual harassment.

Research activities -This cell strives to nurture research culture in the Institute by promoting research activities on emerging trends, keeping in view a multidisciplinary facet. The Scholar's Badge consists of a badge, certificate and cash prize of Rs.5000/-. Alumni Meritorious Award The Alumni Association KCK gives this award which consists of a certificate and a cash prize of Rs.10000/- to felicitate and encourage meritorious students in university exams. Political Science Department Award This is awarded to the highest scorer in Political Science (honours) in the University exam with the following criteria- - A minimum of 6 CGPA. - Must have cleared all semesters without any backlog. - The prize is sponsored by Political Science Department KCK. The award consists of a Citation and Rs.5000/- in cash. History Department Meritorious Topper Award This award consisting of a commendation certificate and Rs.5000 is given to the highest scorer in History (honours). The student must have cleared all semesters without any backlogs, with a CGPA score of 6 and above. The award is sponsored by the History Department, KCK
